Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dominion?

Dominion is a long-term game aimed at taking the creations of a player and turning them into something usable in order to create a working environment of kingdoms, cities, and the political atmosphere that lies within. Players and administrators interact in a sort of player-to-dungeon-master relationship. Players build objects in the Minecraft world to the requirements laid out by the host of the game. Once completed, they may request the construction to be added to their settlement where, if approved, it will start producing resources or providing benefits to the settlement.

Players can use these resources to produce more buildings, units, or spells.

What are kingdoms?

Kingdoms are "teams" or factions led by a player that can be the founder of the kingdom, voted in, or a conqueror of the kingdom. More information about kingdoms can be found on the Kingdoms page.

What are settlements?

Settlements are cities, fortresses, or towns created by players and owned by a lord. A settlement holds resources and can produce units. More information about settlements can be found on the Settlements page.

How do I play Dominion?

Dominion is an open game. There is no -one- way to play, but I can say the general aim is to create a working city within a kingdom. You will want to analyze your surroundings to find a spot most fit for your settlement. You may then look through the Buildings list and find a few buildings you want to construct. I would recommend homes to start as peasants will be required for doing just about anything.

After you get some buildings working, you will need to defend your settlement. Look through the Units list and train some units. You can then use those units to attack other players' units and settlements.

Do units appear in-game?

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to script mobs within Minecraft multiplayer without every player downloading a client-side modification. Forcing players to download anything extra is not within the aims of Dominion. I will be implementing Dynmap into Dominion such that units can be viewed on Dynmap.

Can you make Youtube videos for this?

I will be making Youtube videos covering the overall game as well as examples/tutorials for certain aspects. Right now, the game is in alpha, so it is subject to change. I will not be posting any videos until the game is at -least- in beta so I don't end up making a video that is obsolete within a week.

Can you make this work with (X) mod?

With permission, I'm sure I will be looking to integrate Dominion with other mods, but for so long as the game is in alpha or beta, I will be focusing entirely on core functionality before anything else.

Which mods do you already plan on integrating with?

Can I help?

For testing purposes, I have a few close friends that help me with tests before a version is released. However, once a version is released, I certainly would appreciate any bug reports to be either messaged directly to me on Bukkit or posted on the github location.

If you have talent with art, I may need some help in the future as I, personally, have very little formal education in art of any kind.

If you know how to code in Java and would like to help with development, please PM me.

What are your aims with Dominion as a mod?

I would like Dominion to be played by as many players as possible. I am not looking to make a profit on this - I just want to play this game and share it. That being said, everything is open source, though I really request that you ask for permission before making changes on any code. I also will not be leasing Dominion rights to any single server.
