Mechanics/Thirst

Surviving in a post-apocalyptic world is taxing business, and rightly so. As players explore and survive, they become thirsty, and if they don't drink anything, they will become dehydrated.

On top of the visibility bar is a number (usually their level). This is known as their thirst level. It will progressively decline until it reaches 0, at which point, the player will begin to take damage. As long as they continue to leave their thirst level at 0, they will take half a heart. This damage will only take them as low as half a heart of health remaining, however (ie. it won't kill them).

Each Biome has a configurable thirst decay speed. For example, deserts cause thirst to decay quickly while oceans actually replenish thirst (very slowly). To replenish their thirst, a player must drink a bottle of water.

However, not all water was born equal. MyZ features six types of water:

Murky Water

Obtainable from swamps, jungles and rivers. Drinking this water has the potential to infect the drinker. In order to prevent infection, a player can boil the bottle in a furnace. Doing so will yield Warm Water.

Warm Water

This water can be obtained by filling a glass bottle in a desert, mesa or savanna. It can also be obtained by boiling any type of potion or water bottle in a furnace. Drinking this type of water will fully replenish a player's thirst, however, has the side-effect of increasing the player's temperature (see temperature).

Cold Water

This type of water can be obtained from frozen oceans/rivers, cold beaches/taigas, ice plains, mega (spruce) taigas, taigas, and extreme hills. Like warm water, it is safe to drink, but results in a temperature effect.

Salt Water

Salt water is obtained from oceans or beaches and has the effect of only filling the player's thirst half of what it would have. For example, if the maximum thirst level is 20 and the player's current thirst level is 5, a normal water bottle would fill 15 thirst points while a salt water bottle will only fill 7.5.

Normal Water

Nothing special here.

If a player does not drink water, not only do they become dehydrated and take damage, but their temperature rises faster.
