Info
MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

Posted Mar 8, 2014Having a weird issue. With golden boots on, if you left click it says the messages from the lightwalk spell (a light appears at your feet). They aren't enchanted, it doesn't light up, and only happens with golden boots. There's not cast item associated with lightwalk. Anyone have any ideas?

Check out the description of the "bypass-normal-cast" option on the spell's page: http://nisovin.com/magicspells/menuspell
That might be your problem!

Posted Feb 27, 2014HELLO, I would like to introduce one of the most important technique in creating spells.
PLAY EFFECT
So what it basically do is playing MultiSpell but without changing it position when moving your pointer. What that mean is you can create spell that will play specific effect with particle effects like: meteors, geysers, storm, volcano. Moreover mixing it with "ParticleProjectileSpell" you can make it happen in specific area like rain of meteors or earth spikes. I recommend downloading newest MagicSpells version. PS tell me if you have any problems in understanding how it works.

Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
How would you use item durability as a reagent?

there is an entire system revolving around the "learn" and "teach" spells. Where the only spells players can use are ones they are taught. Plus there are permissions for every spell to be able to learn, teach and use. There are definitely plenty of ways to restrict or control what spells you want used via permissions.
The spells in the regular spells are really just for default, the meat and potatoes of this plugin is the capability of creating your own spells. There is tons of documentation for configuring on the plugin manual that is provided by the creator. This plugin is incredibly expansive and providing this manual has definitely helped me learn more about what this plugin is capable of.

Posted Feb 22, 2014There is absolutely nowhere at all in my configs to disable or enable the spells that I want to control; nothing like your config details as outlined. I have the configs loaded ok, and there is a regular.spells file (which has no enable node on any spell), and nothing of help in the spells.commands file. Nothing to help in the general config file either. I've had to delete the spells I am concerned about from the regular spells file! This is not good enough! It could do with a neat enabling node, so they can be enabled later if I do want them. And I thought these were default to not target players, yet I find in the regular spells list, target: player, monsters for may of them. I've had to remove the player option each time. Surely this is not a good system?

Posted Feb 21, 2014@nisovin A general option to ignore cost item durability would be great or a list like ignore-cast-item-durability. I ask this for dealing with cost-items like weapons and armor, once used they have less than 100% durability they cannot be use, I have tried to make solutions like using a mulit-spell with a repair spell before the spell with a cost item, but multi-spells "spells" do not check for cost items. Perhaps the option would be suited to the spell configuration, ignore cost-item-durability: true
Great plugin, all the best!
