Info
MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

Posted Feb 18, 2014Is there an ability to limit a spell's usage to a certain armor set/armor combination? So; I'd have to have like, full leather armor or an iron helmet and the rest leather armor to use a certain skill?

I have worked with this plugin since the beginning and I can not find out how to make it drop the item instead of the block you could add a effect of throwing a item when it lands and just disable the block
Try making a new spell file then paste it in

Posted Feb 13, 2014With the throw block spell, is it possible to make it always drop the item? I don't want it to land as a block, but to hit the ground and become the dropped item, but as far as I can tell there is only an option for it to become an item if it has a 'bad' landing, it doesn't work all the time.

Posted Feb 12, 2014Hey can anyone tell me how I messed this spell up? I've tried and can't see what I did wrong, but when I add it to my spells, it crashes the whole plugin with a this in the error log. I know it's this spell and no others after adding and removing it several times.

Posted Feb 12, 2014@Mordrogg I had issues with "lightning" bolt effect not showing up after 1.7.2 (but the problem IS NOT with magicspells). This is how i fixed it. I ran my client as 1.7.4 . Then I changed the Resource pack to a random one from Planet Minecraft. Then I switched it back to the original resource pack. Now I can see Lightning bolt animations (YEH!)
However I still can't see the fire from flamewalk.

Posted Feb 11, 2014@Mordrogg: I was meaning a list of the options, but I guess it's better to look under each spell rather than a list of everything that might not apply. Just trying to wrap my head around things@.
@nisovin Thanks for letting me know. It's a shame they don't have a traps plugin like that (or a way to make them permanent). Something like that would really add a lot to servers.

Spells are not made to be permanent like that. If the caster logs off the spell will end. Also, if the chunk unloads the spell will end as well.

Posted Feb 11, 2014Thanks so much, your always helpful! Is there a breakdown of all the options available? Maybe I'm missing it. I see short lists under each spell type but thought there might be a full list. I was trying to find if there was a way to send a message to the person hit when they were affected by the trap. (So they know it was a trap).

It depend on If you use particle or not. Generally too many particles can lag, but it will never lag server but client. Particles have limited range of sight so even when you would put 100000 particles and be 1 block too far to see them it would not lag. If you use blocks as traps then it should never lag. So you can just check how many particles traps would lag and decide. Oh, and when you talk about traps i will give links :D

Posted Feb 10, 2014Thanks for the bookshelf suggestion, looks good! One other question (sorry, I just started working with the plugin recently). I really like the turrets as traps. If I made a spell that didn't limit how many it could place, made the block breakable, and threw a bunch around in dungeons as traps, is there a downside? Would having 'active' spells out there like that lag things? I know I'd have to replace them, but oh well.
