Grief Prevention
AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS ALL FORMS OF GRIEF, including build/break, theft, spam, fire, spawn camping, lava dumping, chat trolling, advertising and more, so you don't have to undo any damage after the fact. It even teaches players how to use it so you don't have to! No configuration or database required. Stop responding to grief and prevent it instead. Grief Prevention will solve your grief problems without requiring you to manage a roster of trained administrators, juggle 10 different anti-grief plugins, take away cool standard game features, publish a training manual / tutorial for players, or add explanatory signs to your world. You can also choose to integrate PvP elements into build design to finally get a PvP experience befitting a sandbox game about creative building.
Grief Prevention stops grief before it starts automatically without any effort from administrators, and with very little (self service) effort from players. Solve all your grief problems with a single download, no database, and no configuration step.

Please Vote for Grief Prevention
I've also posted Grief Prevention on the Spigot site, where plugins are ranked based on reviews. If you love GP, please take a couple of minutes to give GP your rating and leave a short review. Better rating and positive reviews will help server owners who look for plugins on the Spigot site make the safe choice (GP) instead of downloading something sketchy or incomplete. :) Thanks so much for all your support!

If a developer (me) creates a solution which itself creates another problem, then that developer has a responsibility to fix the new problem. Allowing for land claims gives griefers a couple of new tools - on PvP servers, a griefer can hide in his impenetrable tower and shoot an infinity bow at passerby while 100% protected from any retaliation. So I coded siege mode as an optional fix for that issue. Similarly, making /trapped available is important because land claims could otherwise be used to create player traps as I described. You argue that it's abusable, but I already put in a solution for that - if you don't want players using /trapped in a specific area, then make that area an administrative land claim rather than a private player claim. If this doesn't solve your problem, then please explain further so that I may understand your unique situation.
About pvp, I will not put in a feature which is more land management than anti grief when doing so will risk breaking the anti grief features or slow down the overall performance of the plugin (only the former applies in this case). The next version will have an option to enable pvp in administrative land claims, so then by using private versus admin land claims, administrators will get the option to enable pvp in specific land claims, while players will not. This approach doesn't create an opportunity for abuse by griefers, doesn't risk breaking everything else in the plugin, is easy to implement, and solves the problem where administrators want to protect an area without disabling pvp there.
Now doesn't that sound a little silly? :P
@elirock12
Set it to FALSE so that those explosions will NOT be blocked.

Well, you do know that most servers have teleportation. so for them /trapped comand is not only useless, but even a problem. (like in my case). I don't see how adding an option or something like permissions for /trapped would hurt anyone.
And I hear "this plugin is not made for that" and that this plugin tends to be much lightweight as possible...Well in my opinion, siege option has nothing to do with griefing, so you do realize that sounds a little silly? :P
And please reconsider adding some sort of option to enable/disable pvp in some areas. You get that a lot and that is exactly why you shouldn't ignore such requests. And what is the point of having this plugin, if I will have to use worldguard for this option anyway? You present this plugin as lightweight as much as possible... well It is not really lightweight solution if I have to use 2 plugins instead of 1 for such simple options. Perhaps just add some options that can be completely disabled, and there is no harm done.
This plugin is really great and It is a pitty that it lacks such basic options, that many people need.

If a player has permission to build, then he can destroy your chests. So he would have access to all your stuff anyway. Consider putting the chests you want to keep private in a separate land claim.
@lukasparsons
Very glad you got it working!

thanks for your speedy replies, I'd love to give mcpc a try, but after messing around with it for a few minutes, i'm confused on how to run it along side the server itself. does it go in the coremods folder? any help is appreciated.
i have no intention of making my server public until i find SOME way to get this awesome plugin to work on there
NEVERMIND i just dragged all the mods coremods lib etc.. over into the mcpc server and ran it, then reinstalled all plugins, then dragged over my old world folder. everything seems to be running fine and GRIEFPREVENTION WORKS NOW! I'm so excited. this is byfar my favorite plugin. thank for the help re3ell and great work bigscary

I'll allow for pvp in administrative claims via a config option in a future version. There will never be an option for a player to create a personal land claim where pvp is allowed, because players will abuse it (you can't build here, but I can shoot arrows at you from the top of this tower!). /accesstrust doesn't solve the problem, because the abusers will just place dirt blocks instead of a door to prevent unwanted access even when /accesstrust is granted to everyone.
@Eelviny
Autoclaim for chests is important to get new players protections, because they don't have a golden shovel yet, that's why it's worth the potential "mess". By the way did you know inactive chest claims are deleted after a week? Also they're limited to one per player.
Griefers would use the rail thing to place lots of tiny claims, creating a much bigger version of the problem you're trying to solve by disabling chest claims.
@nekpek
The donation button is a blue link in the upper right corner of this page. :) I'm very happy to hear this feedback from you - it's exactly the reason I set out to create this plugin. Thank you!!
@JAG100
Yep, definitely turn off the smart ban for the case where all players have the same IP address. You'll have to /pardon any players who were banned by mistake - or if it's easier for you, you can directly edit your banned players file on the server and /reload. Sorry for the trouble, I've never heard of this server configuration until now.
Hey I'm curious - what's the advantage to running with a proxy in front? Why would you want to throw away incoming IP information?
@jadeddragoon
Damn, that is an interesting situation you have there. I don't think it's fixable on my end - the rule is that carts are not allowed to be damaged except by players with the appropriate permission for that land claim, so the cactus does no damage. This is an important rule because it allows players to securely leave their minecarts on tracks when they leave home or log out, without worrying that their carts will be destroyed by TNT and/or TNT cannons fired by griefers. If you have suggestions that might make your scenario work without making carts vulnerable to explosion griefing by players, I'm listening. :)
You could experiment with other designs for your system in game. You could also try giving /containertrust public, which I think grants permission to break carts manually, but will also definitely give access to buttons, levers, crafting equipment, animals, and containers of all kinds (like chests).
@ManBeastPigDev
Yep, that is exactly right. As long as you leave the playerdata folder alone, they will keep their claim blocks.
@anfereon
/trapped doesn't work in administrative land claims. Use /adminclaims to create them. Turning /trapped off entirely isn't an option because without it available, griefers could very easily abuse land claims to intentionally trap players in pits. It's actually worse than killing them, because it robs them of their play time (until an admin comes to save them, or somebody tosses them a pearl). Even a player who knows about /kill is in a bad position because in most cases he won't be able to get his items back.
@deleted_9935739
Thanks, I'll check on that - do you have /accesstrust public or /containertrust public or /trust public in that administrative claim? The ender pearls require at least access trust level. @romenas
You said they can't fight. So the old player must also be protected. Tell the players that they don't have to fight it out - if someone simply leaves the besieged land claim, then the siege will end WITHOUT the old player dying and losing all his stuff.
@ray73864
Check your chest claim radius? Is it -1? Also the rule is that if they already have a land claim anywhere, they don't get a free chest claim. Could that explain what you're seeing?
@user_955758
Does setting your sea level override as appropriate for your custom map fix the issue? If not, I may have to add a config option for you.
@Infuscu
In that case, GP will stop the PvP.
@Sonote
Your only option is to give build trust (with the /trust command). You could limit this to specific areas of your administrative land claim with /subdivideclaims.
@JAG100
Delete only the land claims in that deleted world. If in file mode, use file search to find files with the world name in them. Or if in database mode, it's time to write a SQL statement to delete only those in that world.
@lukasparsons
Very sorry to hear that. I don't know how to get it to work on that mod platform, and I don't even know if it's possible. It's definitely a topic you should raise with the developer of that mod platform - his goal is probably to support all CraftBukkit plugins, and I'm sure he'd like to hear about where the problem areas are.
I've heard that MCPC is vastly better than BukkitForge in terms of plugin support.
@re3ell
On a classic tekkit server, machines are unable to make changes to any land claim because the account the machine uses to make block changes does not have permission. Check your GP config file to ensure you haven't given a fake player account permission to do anything it wants anywhere. If that is not the problem, then there's probably an issue with your mod platform being different from CraftBukkit in some very important way, which you should report to the developer of that platform.
@daswhise
Nearly all the features can be limited to specific worlds. Most are controlled by the "claims.enabledworlds" list.

I do not know whether it will help but i have a tekkit lite server and griefprevention works fine for me after i removed Bukkitforge and used MCPCPlus. I had trouble with nearly every plugin at Bukkitforge but none with MinecraftPortCentralPlus (nearly the same as bukkitforge)
@bigscary: ->
You plugin works fine on my Tekkit Lite server but there is just one thing that nobody seems to be able to answer on the Tekkit forums.
Is your plugin able to protect a claim from machines mining there? E.g. my friend (not trusted in the claim) places a quarry (machine that automatically destroys blocks one after one in a cuboid) outside my claim with the cuboid filling my claim. When powered the quarry is not blocked from mining every block in my claim. Is this because of wrong configuration or is your plugin not able to prevent it? If so, would you be able to fix that (according to the bukkit api)?

Posted Feb 3, 2013I LOVE THIS PLUGIN. I have lots of experience with it on another server, but i am looking to start a Direwolf20 Server myself. the server is in its beta state and isnt public yet, i'm messing around with plugins and i cannot seem to get this plugin to work. the server is running on 1.4.7 with bukkitforge installed... it was a hassle enabling plugins on a Direwolf server in the first place, but thats not the point. the issue comes when someone tries to make a claim. First of all, the golden shovel (when selected) doesnt send a message through chat saying how many claim blocks the user has and a link to the howto. and when you try to make/adjust a claim, it glitches and thinks you're trying to claim like the whole chunk or something ridiculous. it comes back with "you do not have enough claim blocks to claim this area. you need 1xxxxxxx more."
i'm a huge fan of this plugin and i really would like to get it to work on my server so i can make it public. any suggestions?

Posted Feb 3, 2013bigscary, I have multiverse and needed to delete a world and I'm not sure how to stop the errors when Grief prevention initially loads and sees the world is missing but seems to try to load the claims anyway. I have claims in another world that I don't want to lose so deleting and starting all over doesn't seem ideal. Any ideas?

Posted Feb 3, 2013Hey I take care of a server and we wanted to make a public market using sign shop in conjunction with GP. So far under what I have read I have not found a way to make signs placeable and destroyable within administrative claims. So could you point me in the direction of a way to do this or consider adding it to a future version? Maybe by making a sign trust command?

Well, think about it a little. How can I prevent players from making claims inside a worldguard region and prevent them from using /trapped?
I don't think that it's so hard just to add an option to disable /trapped in config or sth?
And I don't want to use worldguard on my server. I have too many plugins already.

You can put an administrator claim ontop of the WorldGuard region, this will block people from claiming inside the WorldGuard region.
I wonder what will happen, if you enable PvP in a WorldGuard region ontop of a GP administrator claim?

Posted Feb 3, 2013We have a costum map so nature restore can't be used by us. We blocked abbandon claim and delete claim. But when people extend claims we still get green grass stuff arround there zone. (in the chuncks) How can we prevent that? There should be no case that nature will be restored.
Also: We use WorldGuard to protect stuff like the spawn area, people can't build in the area, but can claim it with GP. Is there a way that you can't claim in a protected zone?
