Using an Iris

An iris is a way to protect your gate from allowing anyone through. Some servers may disable the use of an iris so if this doesn't work contact an op/admin

Creating an Iris

An iris engages automatically when the gate receives a connection but for it to work you need to setup your gate properly.

Firstly you need to set the iris key. This is the item which you must hold in your hand when coming through the gate which will disable the iris. To do this, place the item you want to use as a key in the bottom row second slot of your chest, or slot 2 shown below, when creating your gate.

Then place a redstone torch under the bottom center block of your gate.

Now when a connection is incoming, your iris should engage blocking the gate.

Disengaging an Iris

There are 2 ways to disengage your iris.

Firstly, a player can travel to your gate with the iris key in their hand which you set up when creating your gate. Using this method, the iris will re-engage on the next connection.

Secondly, you can attach a switch to the redstone torch under the gate. When the torch is on, your iris will engage, when it is off, the gate is open and travellers can pass freely. This method will not reset on the next connection. You have to remember to change the switch to engage the iris again. Also if the redstone circuit is broken, the iris may engage/disengage on it's own.
