Description
This plugin is intended to efficiently provide a border for each of your worlds, which only people granted special bypass access are allowed beyond. These borders can be round/elliptic or square/rectangular. As the plugin has been written with performance as the most important goal, it should have no performance impact on your server. Additional world trimming and filling commands are available as well.
Older plugins which originally inspired the creation of this one: rBorder and BorderGuard.
Features
- You can set up a separate border for each world, but only one border per world.
- You can have either round/elliptic or square/rectangular borders. Square/rectangular borders are slightly higher performance, round/elliptic borders make for nicer display maps. Different worlds can have different border shapes if you so choose.
- Configuration and border setup is done completely using commands in-game or through the server console. No need to ever edit the config file directly.
- Support for all permission plugins which interface with Bukkit's built-in "superperms" permission system.
- You can fully generate (fill) your world all the way to the border, filling in any missing chunks, including a configurable buffer zone just outside your border.
- You can trim off any world chunks beyond the border, getting rid of extraneous parts, with a configurable buffer zone left just outside your border.
- You can use a bypass command to allow specific players to go beyond all borders.
- Borders can be automatically displayed in DynMap if you use that plugin.
- All plugin data is automatically saved whenever any borders or settings are changed.
- If a player crosses a border while in a vehicle, the momentum of the vehicle is stopped and it is moved back inside the border with the player.
- When a player is moved back inside a border, they will be moved to a safe vertical location if needed.
- Borders for specific worlds can be set to wrap around instead of just knocking back players who cross the border, instead sending them to the opposite edge of the border.

Of special interest are the Fill command and the Trim command features:

Borders are also displayed automatically by default in DynMap if you have it:

Looking at that dump it looks to me like you have chunk issues as it is timing out and crashing during a chunk generation cycle. Could be one of two real possibilities, either you had some sort of chunk modifying plugin before and have removed it, or you just simply have chunk errors. Rough situation either way as even most tools are less then a 50/50 shot at recovering much of anything. A simple way to try and test would be to make a backup of your world folder and attempt to regenerate the world. If there are no crashes after this point then you know it is a chunk error(s).

Just checked, there's no indication there that WorldBorder is in any way related. It's not even mentioned in your crash dump. Based on the stack trace it looks like a Spigot/Bukkit/Minecraft problem, as no other plugins are mentioned in the stack trace either.

Posted Jun 8, 2014Hello,
I've recently started to run into a bug that is described in detail here: http://www.spigotmc.org/threads/java-lang-illegalstateexception-unknown.12681/,
The consensus of the thread seems to be that worldborder is the cause of the crashing but no one has offered a solution. We would greatly appreciate any insights into a fix for this problem. Thank you very much!
EDIT: we do not use nolagg.
EDIT: with further investigation it looks like worldborder may not be the cause of our particular issue, as we are running no fill tasks at the current moment- we think we found one of our custom plugins that was the culprit. It may still be worth looking into for you, as apparently this plugin can cause the issue, but it was not in our case. We think.
Thanks!

Posted Jun 7, 2014Just wanna say I just discovered this plugin and I really like it. I didn't manage to get circular renders of the map with Overviewer, though, but it's no big deal. :-) I'm just happy to be able to render the entire map at once and then avoid severe lagging.
In short : thanks. :D

If you don't mind the performance hit from such a hefty plugin, the WorldGuard plugin has a way to do that, IIRC. There might be others, you're welcome to do the research; the important thing here is that this plugin can't help you. Again, sorry.

WorldBorder 1.7.6 is explicitly compatible with CraftBukkit 1.6.4, as indicated by the compatible game versions shown on the file listing page.
The only changes since them that would be important for border security are the change in WB 1.7.8 to hopefully keep other plugins like CombatTag from preventing border knockback (that plugin normally prevents players it considers "in combat" from being teleported), and workaround fix added in WB 1.7.9 to handle players who have passengers (such as pets riding their head from the EchoPet plugin) being able to get beyond the border due to a longstanding CraftBukkit teleportation bug.
WorldBorder 1.7.9 might actually be compatible with CraftBukkit 1.6.4, but I haven't explicitly tested it. I don't recall any changes from WB 1.7.6 to 1.7.9 that would affect backwards compatibility. WorldBorder 1.8.0 however is likely not backwards compatible due to the UUID changes.

Posted Jun 5, 2014Hello, I am creating a new Pixelmon server and would like to use your plugin. Could you tell me which most secure version should I use, knowing that Pixelmon plugin is still in version 1.6.4
Thanks!

This plugin doesn't restrict vertical (Y) movement, only horizontal (X/Z). Sorry.

Posted Jun 4, 2014Hello, I'm desperately need to lock up the height (not under construction). But as pluggin does arrive and again for a behind again.
example: when a player reaches the height 160 reverts back to the previous block so can not pass over mountains and bug the map.
Im making a morpg server.

Yeah, I'm running at 750 mb. :P
I do have like 400 mb free right now so I was hoping that would have been enough to keep filling even at a slower rate. Alright, I'll change the fill-memory-tolerance and see how that goes. Thanks!

It automatically checks every few ticks for sufficient memory, which by default it looks for at least 500 MB free memory before automatically continuing. If you're running a server with very low memory, you may run into problems and it may never have that much memory free again without restarting the server. As a reminder, it is highly recommended to have at least 1 GB memory available for even a very small CraftBukkit server, with an absolute bare minimum of 768 MB.
If you feel the need, you can adjust the memory threshold it will continue at by editing the plugin config file manually and changing the "fill-memory-tolerance" value (again, default is at least 500 MB).

Posted Jun 4, 2014"[Server] INFO [Fill] Available memory is very low, task is pausing. A cleanup will be attempted now, and the task will automatically continue if/when sufficient memory is freed up."
I have free memory but the plugin doesn't continue unless I restart the server. Is there a way to resume it through console?

I'd been considering adding a pseudo-physical border feature, but now with the latest Minecraft snapshots including a /worldborder command which implements a square physical border directly in vanilla, I plan to wait and see how that pans out and see if I can integrate this plugin with that new feature in some way. I'm hoping to be able to co-opt the new physical border they provide, but we'll see.
The default border shape is round, so just set a border and you're done. For example, the simplest command for a 5000 block radius (10000x10000) border centered on you for the world you're in:
/wb set 5000
If you wanted the same border but wanted to specify the center at X 5, Z 10 instead of centered on you:
/wb set 5000 5 10
Or if you wanted that border but with it 7000 blocks wide on the Z axis (10000x14000), making an elliptical/ovoid shape rather than perfect circle:
/wb set 5000 7000 5 10
Finally, you could even specify the world name (case sensitive, so be careful), which also allows you to run the command from server console:
/wb world_nether set 5000 7000 5 10
You can leave out any of the parameters you don't feel like specifying, other than the X radius value which is required (used for Z radius if that's not specified). The command is able to tell what you intend based on the number of values passed to it.
You can alternately use the /setcorners command if you know the X/Z coordinates for two opposite corners of the desired border area.

Posted May 30, 2014Version 1.8.0 is now uploaded and will be available once the BukkitDev team approve it.
It will wipe your bypass list just once when you first load this version, as a precaution. This is because it's being switched to storing player UUIDs for the bypass list instead of names, in advance of player names being changeable. This version is only tested with v1.7.9-R0.1 of CraftBukkit, though it might possibly work with CB 1.7.5 and up.

Thanks for asking, I wasn't aware of that upcoming change until you asked.
It's ready except for one thing: the border bypass list stores player names rather than UUIDs. I'll need to release an update to address that, and I'll need to have it wipe the bypass list that one time when you update the plugin on your server since there's apparently no good way to get the UUID for an offline player without already having it from the last time they were online.
That will add a slight wrinkle, though. You'll only be able to add players to the bypass list when they're online, so that their UUID can be checked, as I don't want to make the plugin store a list of player names and UUIDs for everyone who has logged into your server. Well, I suppose I could add another method to add players to the bypass list based directly on their UUID, though that would of course require you to know their UUID. Oh well.
I'll try to get an update out in the next few days.
EDIT:
actually, after a little more looking into it, I should be able to have it allow adding players to the bypass list even if they're offline. I wasn't aware there was a method available to query Mojang's server to find out the UUID currently associated with a given player name. So that's a bit less of a nuisance. I'll still want to wipe the bypass list for this update just to be on the safe side.
