Description
This plugin is intended to efficiently provide a border for each of your worlds, which only people granted special bypass access are allowed beyond. These borders can be round/elliptic or square/rectangular. As the plugin has been written with performance as the most important goal, it should have no performance impact on your server. Additional world trimming and filling commands are available as well.
Older plugins which originally inspired the creation of this one: rBorder and BorderGuard.
Features
- You can set up a separate border for each world, but only one border per world.
- You can have either round/elliptic or square/rectangular borders. Square/rectangular borders are slightly higher performance, round/elliptic borders make for nicer display maps. Different worlds can have different border shapes if you so choose.
- Configuration and border setup is done completely using commands in-game or through the server console. No need to ever edit the config file directly.
- Support for all permission plugins which interface with Bukkit's built-in "superperms" permission system.
- You can fully generate (fill) your world all the way to the border, filling in any missing chunks, including a configurable buffer zone just outside your border.
- You can trim off any world chunks beyond the border, getting rid of extraneous parts, with a configurable buffer zone left just outside your border.
- You can use a bypass command to allow specific players to go beyond all borders.
- Borders can be automatically displayed in DynMap if you use that plugin.
- All plugin data is automatically saved whenever any borders or settings are changed.
- If a player crosses a border while in a vehicle, the momentum of the vehicle is stopped and it is moved back inside the border with the player.
- When a player is moved back inside a border, they will be moved to a safe vertical location if needed.
- Borders for specific worlds can be set to wrap around instead of just knocking back players who cross the border, instead sending them to the opposite edge of the border.

Of special interest are the Fill command and the Trim command features:

Borders are also displayed automatically by default in DynMap if you have it:

Posted May 13, 2014How y'all doing?
I was wondering if there is a way we can get a Towny plugin for the world trim. Therefore our servers towns are protected and we can auto trim the world around the Towny borders. i have already tested this and sometimes it automatically works and sometimes it seems to cut the town plot in half and trim them.
I contacted the Towny authors and they turned down the idea of incorporating it in their own mod. They suggested i ask the makers of World Border. I love this mod this is the ONLY issue i have ever had is the trim command. It is very useful on servers or even private because if i introduce new mods i need a way to generate blocks etc. and to be able to keep the towns safe would be the best
Thank you!

I'll copy what I've posted elsewhere below. In addition, I'll add that if it's taking much more than the standard 5 seconds (5+ minutes?!?) between fill progress reports, then something is very wrong on your server.
Regarding the Fill process running slowly, constantly stopping due to low memory, or even getting stuck, there are a few things which can make that more likely, especially if combined.
There are probably others that I haven't thought of as well.

Posted May 10, 2014Yes, sometimes I have the same issue as Chewychunga. Higher frequency seems to have no effect on the fill speed, it goes EXTREMELY slowly regardless, with 5+ minutes of delay between each "X chunks processed" message. It's not an issue with CPU or RAM, in fact when the issue occurs the server's performance is that of before I even started the fill.

You can specify a higher frequency in the command, but if you go too high it can potentially cause problems, particularly if you're running with world generator plugins or settings which are resource hogs.
The main limitation however is down to how fast Minecraft can generate chunks itself.

1. The area will be regenerated exactly like it was when it was first generated, unless the map generator(s) have changed since then (new version of Minecraft with changed map generators, or new/changed map generator plugins).
2. It doesn't cause any long-term problems whatsoever.

Awesome plugin Brett. I have two questions about how the trim feature works and found part of my question answered from an old post of yours.
1. When you trim a map and then explore that trimmed area on-foot, does it just re-generate the area to exactly how it looked when that area was first generated? For example, If I trim a desert (unmodified but just explored by players) in half and then explore that trimmed area on-foot, is it going to be the same desert as before or something completely different?
2. Does trimming have any negative effect on the map/server (other than maybe a slight performance hit while the trimming occurs)? For example, would updating the server to a newer version cause any issues? I don't want to trim if it could cause future issues.
Hopefully I didn't confuse you by my questions. Thanks for making this cool plugin.

No, and there's still no visual border feature in place either.
It looks like Minecraft itself is getting a visual physical border which is available in their latest snapshot release(s) through a new vanilla /worldborder command, so I'm definitely holding off on implementing any sort of visual border in this plugin for the time being. If their implementation remains as limited as it currently is (square shape only), I might reconsider in future and I might even be able to use something from their implementation of a visual physical border.

@Brettflan
Is this possible? Would be very nice in some situations, but i don't see any documentation about a feature like that.

Make absolutely certain that you have the world names spelled correctly when setting the border; in particular, capitalization is important.

I am using your plugin on my server @ tm.apocgaming.org with Multiworld and it does not seem to be working.
I used your plugin on my servers before with no problems, but that was just using the main worlds, now with using multiworld to have multiple worlds loaded in worldborder simply does not work.
Players can go past the set border on any world.

Hah, nice. :)
I went ahead and downloaded that build to test it out and see how their border implementation works. Seems like a decent physical border implementation. They even have a way to make the border size change over a specified period of time, where you can actually see it growing or shrinking. That's pretty cool. It only supports square borders so far, but hopefully they'll keep working on it.

That would be because you have debug output enabled. If you don't want to see it, run /wb debug off.

Posted Apr 22, 2014Alright so I ran worldborder with only 2 mods loaded, Biomes O' Plenty and Alternate Terrain Generation, running mcpc-plus-1.6.4-R2.1-forge965-B251.
No matter what frequency I set it at it will only go about 20-40 chunks / second. It looks like it's limited by something but I don't know what that could be.
