Storm
Ever bored with the vanilla weather? Storm is a plugin that adds a whole new range of weather mechanics to Bukkit servers.

Features
- Acid Rain: Green rain, which damages players and animals, as well as deteriorates blocks. Turn a 'grey day' into a 'radioactive-green' day!
- Blizzards: Makes snow a real threat! Players and entities caught outside during a blizzard will experience snow acting as slow sand, limited visibility, and cold damage, so long as they are not inside or near a heating block.
- Thunder Storms: If supercharged creepers were not already a threat, how will your players react to hordes of zombie pigmen? Thunder storms are massive discharges of lightning over a short period of time, in which players will be hard-pressed to survive.
- Meteors: Fireballs trailed by explosions, burrowing in the ground, and flattening all entities in their path. Players who survive, however, can delight themselves with the ores the meteor leaves behind.
- Wildfires: We can all safely say vanilla fires are boring. To spice up the game, we've added wildfires; a naturally occurring event in which entire forests will be devoured by fire with pre-1.6B physics.
- Earthquakes: With massive rifts opening up, screens shaking, and blocks flying about, Storm earthquakes will be an experience for your players to remember. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
- Volcanoes: Large mounds of lava spurting out of the ground, explosions and flying lava bombs. Fun, fun, fun. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
Getting started with Storm
If you are a visual learner, this video by WoopaGaming is for you! Some information is outdated, but the gist remains the same.
You can gain some more in-depth information from this "Curse Minecraft Spotlight" on Storm, as it presents most of the features of Storm in a nice format. Thanks to Xenius01 of Curse for this one!
Storm has a command for all its weather types:
| Command | Usage | Permission | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| /acidrain | /<command> [world] | storm.acidrain.command | Starts acid rain in specified world. |
| /blizzard | /<command> [world] | storm.blizzard.command | Starts a blizzard in specified world. |
| /thunderstorm | /<command> [world] | storm.thunderstorm.command | Starts a thunder storm in specified world. |
| /wildfire | /<command> [world] | storm.wildfire.command | Starts a wildfire where player is looking at. |
| /meteor | /<command> [world] | storm.meteor.command | Spawns a meteor and targets the block the player is looking at. |
| /volcano | /<command> [world] | storm.volcano.command | Spawns a volcano at the targeted block. |
| /earthquake | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a earthquake at the targeted block. |
| /cracks | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a crevice at the targeted block. |
And immunity permissions from their associated weathers:
| Immunity | Permission | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Acid Rain Damage | storm.acidrain.immune | Prevents damage from acid rain. |
| Blizzard Damage | storm.blizzard.immune | Prevents damage from blizzards. |
| Lightning Attraction | storm.lightning.immune | Prevents extra damage from lightning & lightning attraction. |
| Meteor Damage | storm.meteor.immune | Prevents damage from meteor shockwaves. |
If Storm doesn't load, first, make sure that you are running a compatible build of Storm. For example, 0.1.2 will run only on Bukkit 1.4.6, while 0.1.2 R1 will only run on 1.4.7. You can see the supported versions in the Files menu. If that doesn't work or Storm throws exceptions, leave a ticket.
When asking for support...
...please answer the following questions: they help us get back to you quicker and consequently address any issues faster.
- What Storm version are you running? Be specific.
- What server implementation are you running (usually CraftBukkit)?
- What Minecraft version are you running?
- What is the issue you are experiencing?
- Provide a traceback, if the issue is a crash and a log is available.

Well, I use ClearLagg to unload chunks with no people in or near them. It's scheduled to run on an hourly basis. Perhaps it would be possible to implement the feature but have the option off by default? This feature would really just boost hunting for the meteor crash site. Currently whoever is near it is just lucky, and if they're in or near their faction home they're unlucky because now everyone will go there as the meteor crash was just advertised in chat with coords. The main issue is: faction homes are being discovered more often because people KNOW meteors only crash near people.

Meteors only occur in loaded chunks. If this weren't the case, then you would be able to expect major performance drops over time or immediately depending on theoretical implementation, because there would be more loaded chunks than usual. Even performance boosters such as Spigot, NoLagg, and PTweaks would be able to 'fix' this, since it's simply a matter of all the chunks Storm would have to load to actually have meteors be able to impact anywhere (unless it's possible to make a certain chunk (or chunks) randomly selected load on demand, and I'm just spouting out gibberish).
In other words, nothing can really be done about this except making a longer view-distance on your server, which can adversely affect server performance depending on the amount of players. At the moment, anyways (possibly?).

Posted May 4, 2013Is there a way to make meteors crash away from players? An issue I'm having is that meteors only seem to occur near a player. Never in some random spot on the map. To clarify: Let's say one person is online at coords X:100 Z:100. I want natural meteors to happen ANYWHERE but near him. For example, X:4000 Z: -7000.

Posted Apr 30, 2013We are in the process of recreating the StormTeam website. Older users of Storm may remember that the latter website was home to a Jenkins, no-login bug reports, and development updates, among others.
The previous domain, stormteam.tk, was reported by someone (thanks for that...), and so we got a very kind letter from dot.tk informing us that our website had been shut down for copyright infringement (right...).
The website should be along in the next few weeks. Please do not bother us with another spam report because you feel bored. Go outside instead.

Posted Apr 28, 2013I get this error now: http://pastebin.com/7k10N3Lv (didn't change anything since I reported the wall of ores)
And now I don't get the error anymore. I just get nothing. No errors, no meteors. Nothing. The only way I've figured out to force meteors to spawn is to powertool and use meteor. Then after that they will start naturally spawning, and at the same time spewing the error from above.
Here's my config if that helps: http://pastebin.com/VnMJFXrK

Mind sending a screenshot of this wall you speak of? And meteors have an effect that turns a circle of 100 blocks from the impact into a snow biome. Think of it like a "meteoric winter". Mind you, its configurable.

Here's another odd bug...I set the time low so a natural meteor would spawn...and after it did, it spawned the ores in a vertical wall. Then a desert biome started getting covered in snow. There's also hardly any ores. It'd be great to configure the amount of ore blocks left behind, or perhaps a range. It would also be nice if the ores were horizontally spread out, rather than in wall form.

Alright. What happens if I put all orespawn chances to 100%, btw?

Meteors fired via /meteor do not spawn ores (to prevent lag when going on an apocalyptic rampage over your world). Only natural meteors spawn ores.

Posted Apr 28, 2013No matter how I configure the meteor's mineral deposit function, meteors, plain and simple, don't deposit minerals. My goal is to have meteors be rare, but very much so sought after. I want there to be a ton of every mineral at every meteor site, to provide an opportunity for people to become wealthy and for wars to erupt over the minerals. I've tried every percent combination, here's my current:

Posted Apr 28, 2013Just thought I would also just quickly tell you that Storm 1.3.0 prompts for "Storm update: Storm v1.3.0!" in the command line even though Storm 1.3.0 is already installed. Just another small bug.
Can't really access Github, sorry. It's probably China. Besides that I don't have an account there.

In the meantime, NoSpawnChunks is an ideal way to fix this issue, and also increase server performance.

Posted Apr 27, 2013I'd like to suggest a feature:
An option to disable volcanoes and meteors near the spawn of the world.
This is because these chunks are always loaded, therefore, a large number of meteors (and I guess this would affect volcanoes too, but I have them disabled) land near spawn as opposed to anywhere else in the world, this is especially noticeable when nobody goes on the server in a few days and it remains online. The only loaded chunks are the ones at spawn, so you end up with relatively loads of meteors in comparison to the rest of the world.

With it, there are a handful of bugs and limitations which are scheduled to be fixed. These include (but are not limited to):
Sit tight: the next version of Storm will be a good one.
