How do I use it ?
Don't want to watch the awesome video ? Fine, here are the basic commands.
/mv create skylands normal -g SkylandsPlus
Or a skylands style Nether like this
/mv create skylands nether -g SkylandsPlus
Or a skylands style End like this
/mv create skylands the_end -g SkylandsPlus
Other world management plugins should have similar commands, I use Multiverse on my server which is why I only provide the instructions for that. The documentation for which ever plugin you use should tell you how to do it. You can also add a world by editing the bukkit.yml file, instructions on how to do that can be found on the Bukkit wiki.
Config
prevent-sand-falling: true restrict-mob-spawning: true
prevent-sand-falling - When set to true no sand will fall in skylands worlds.
restrict-mob-spawning - When set to true the number of mobs in a single chunk will be limited to a sane amount in skylands worlds.
Contributing
Contributions to the project are very much welcome, if you have a feature that you want implemented and know a nice way to do it then consider forking the repo and submitting a pull request. These will be accepted as long as the following simple guidelines are followed.
- Do not edit the structure of the pom.xml file, feel free to add a dependency if you need it but the formatting and structure should not be changed.
- If you are exposing a new API method, add a JavaDoc comment to it, but don't over-comment internal code.
- Follow the existing code style, don't antagonise over every space though !
All dependencies that are used are now available from a public Maven repo, so you don't have to worry about building several other projects just to add a simple change any more.

Posted Aug 27, 2012I typed the command written above :
/mv create skylands normal -g SkylandsPlus
And all I got was a new world that looked nothing like the one in the video....
Any reason?

Posted Aug 27, 2012When I updated to the 1.3.2 beta, Skylands displayed dirt, grass, glass, and bedrock at block 0 in chunks where an island did not exist above it.

Posted Aug 25, 2012Folks, a while ago I told you to use
MULTIVERSE #580 and up!
If you try to build Skylands with an earlier version it will show that chunk errors!
Wide_load, please add that to the requirements.

I think empty chunks are not sent to the client, I've got rei minimap set to no transparancy, and yet there are still transparent regions, yet only on chunks that are completely empty

The early 1.3 dev builds of Bukkit had an issue where some chunks would not be sent to the client, so it could be another version of that happening. All my testing worlds have generated fine still ! /me confused.

Posted Aug 22, 2012wide_load, the black regions are not related to your plugin and I think i have a proof for it:
We run a skylands map that was pre-generated 4 months ago and since then the SkylandsPlus plugin is no longer installed (pregen, worldborder, done).
Since the 1.3.1 or 1.3.2 update we suddenly have that black areas where you cant build, too.
So far I havent found them on a fresh pregenerated Map with 13.1, so maybe world translation errors?

Maybe Ocean is what the client defaults to if the server sends weird information.

Actually, when you place a block inside the black ocean chunks, then you unload the chunk and load the chunk again (by going away and coming back to the chunk) the biome changes to something else (as i saw in my case, from Ocean to Forest)

Very interesting ! I think it might be to do with some of the recent changes to the world chunks are generated. It's good to know that they do generate correctly though, I'm still unable to produce the error here !

Posted Aug 21, 2012I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this but these regions that are blacked out and messed up are all Ocean biomes and only Ocean biomes. If you had some way to change the biome data of that chuck you may be able to resolve the issue.

Yes, Apparently bukkit changed the way chunks are created... and somehow it fucked up all the generators.

Posted Aug 16, 2012Ok I investigated the issue closer. Check this screenshot:
You can see that the front side of the blocks is dark. When I place blocks, it seems that the block is not placed.
You cannot see anything. Also the minimap cannot handle this area. It is clearly along the chunk lines:
You can see the chunk grid and how the minimap starts smearing the information of the invalid chunks across the map when I move, but keeps the good chunks properly updated.
Now the interesting bit: When I leave the area (unload the chunk) and come back, the blocks that I tried to place but could not see, are actually there. I placed them but could not see them. Also, the chunk properly displays in the minimap. The whole chunk that was first compelety invisible, is suddenly there.
It seems to me that only completely empty chunks are affected, those where there is not one single block. I am not sure if that is a bug where bukkit does not load chunks w/o contents or if there is a different issue. Clearly the map files are OK. Dynmap also renders the map w/o the issue the minimap has.

Posted Aug 16, 2012The lighting thing is Mojang's problem, it's made much worse in skylands because of the large overhangs.
It's always worked for me when testing with Multiverse so maybe try that ?
