Info
MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

I've released a new version of MagicSpells Memory that should fix this.
@LucidLethargy
Unfortunately no. The flying speed isn't changeable.
@zilkanilex2
I'll look into it.

Posted Apr 2, 2012So I attempted to use frostwalk, but it gave me this error. I tried it with "keep frozen" enabled, and disabled. This is an important skill to have for my faction server because it prevents people from creating an unraidable base by putting water on top of their bases.
Craftbukkit 1.2.4 R1.0 #2126

Posted Apr 2, 2012Is it just me, or is MagicSpells Memory reseting anyone else's config file when their server is restarted?

Posted Apr 1, 2012I love the new windwalk spell, VERY well done! But... and this is a big one... can you allow us to change the speed? Right now I love that I can allow my admins to use this, but it makes my spell for everyone else super cheap :P

Posted Apr 1, 2012Testing 1.24 for our server and right now magical spells can't be used from an item when your in a disguise from mob disguise. You can still /cast but the wand items do not work. Know why this might be?
edit: ignore that. Disabled cast on animate and it works just fine. Thanks for the awesome plugin once again!

Not currently.
@keenerb
You probably don't have the unbind spell defined in your config. Check the default config linked above and copy it in to yours.

Posted Mar 30, 2012I can't figure out how to unbind a spell.
I thought /cast unbind or /cast unbindspell, but neither are valid spells, either from console or as an op.

Posted Mar 30, 2012Is there anyway to configure a spell to target a specific type of creature...for example an area of effect spell.....say like Turn Undead...... area of effect spell that only effects zombies, skeletons...etc....its almost a neccessity for running characters such as clerics, paladins, or even priests.

Zap and reach are fixed now in 2.6.1.
@HeXas92
Is there any particular problem you're having with those addons? They don't need updated, they should all still work fine.

Alright thanks. In the future could that maybe become a feature? Like disabling certain worlds and such. It would help a lot of people out

You can do that already, you can have the cost to cast be 'experience' or 'level'.

Posted Mar 28, 2012You should add the "Mana" to be used off of XP. So people without spount could use spells based off a certain amount of xp that is required. Like 15 XP for /cast firenova and etc. idk i think it would be really cool seeing as people on my server enjoy it very much and suggested this. Also, this plugin is just amazing. Having a full server of 75+ people using spells and PvPing is just so neat. No issues so far!

Well, you could not give cast permissions for that world. Or make a really big no-magic zone on that world that covers everything.
