MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

Posted Apr 17, 2012The 2.7 looks great, good work as always.
I seem to have found an issue however, when I installed MagicSpells-2.7-041622 , it seems a few players forgot spells they had already been taught. And had to be retaught them.
One guy even forget it, a second time. So he had to be retaught the same spell twice.
Just a heads up to help with bug fixes <3

I'll fix drainlife. As for player damage, there's a 'prevent-player-damage' option on explode, have you set that?

Are you sure you aren't getting all spells due to being an op? There's a config option for that as well.

If you've configured it correctly spells should work fine against players, I know there are many other servers that do this. If you can't figure it out, please post your config. Also, the mana spell is still in, have you removed it from the config file?

Posted Apr 15, 2012Hey, I love the plugin absolutely great job! Just wondering about something though, I've gone through and set config so target players are allowed for all spells cause i want the spells for my pvp server, and i've got all the perms set up good. But spells still arent working on players, specifically ones i was using for testing like forcetoss and pain. I'm using groupmanager, any help would be appreciated, keep up the good work!
(also, did you get rid of the "mana" spell? - doesnt work or show up in game)

Posted Apr 14, 2012I seem to be having an issue with the magicspells.cast.* perm. I have default-all-perms-false to true and this node is granting me every spell as well as allowing me to cast it. Is anyone else having this issue?
@Ultimateowner56 I recommend McMMO. If you don't want the skills you can just disable them.

Posted Apr 14, 2012Add some sort of party! A very simple one, doesn't need party chat or anything. Just so you don't cast healing spells on enemies and so you don't cast damage spells on your friends.

Works like a charm, but now I believe I'm having the same issue with the drain life spell when draining experience.
The explode spell when tied to a projectile also seems to be ignore certain fields. For example, I can't seem to prevent player damage. In fact after looking into it, it might just be all explosions always hitting players are doing damage regardless of if target-players or other likewise fields with any of the spells I use. Using your April 13th build.

Posted Apr 13, 2012Would it be possible to include variables in external command spells? So I could target other players not in Line of site? For example, make a spells external command "/tp %p" and the spell would be "/cast teleport %p", allowing you to fill in a player's name?

Is it possible for you to create one? (and will you?)
Could you ask the creator of it (oceanor) to update it?
Lastly, when will the newest dev build be released?

Just use the change log and the default config linked above, and copy/paste the parts you want into your own config. You don't have to start over.

Posted Apr 12, 2012i had this plugin on the 1.2.3 R0.2 build and worked VERY WELL. now i downloaded the 2.6.1 version of it and looked at the changelog and saw that some spells like windwalk and some personalising options are new. on the old .yml file i configured the spells to my wish and i worked a bit and now i don't know what to do? keep the old spells or start all over again with the new ones. isn't there a way to keep what i did but replace/add the new spells and configs?

Posted Apr 11, 2012Using the projectile spell with experiance as a cost. It doesn't seem to update the exp bar for the player. If I give the player xp the spell can be used, but then after I use that xp it says not enough regens, however the players xp bar never updates to show this.

You probably need to set default-all-perms-false to true. If a player doesn't have learn permission for a spell, they won't be able to be taught it.

You probably have another plugin that is messing with explosions. Try setting simulate-tnt to false on the explode spell.

Posted Apr 10, 2012It seems as though you have completely ignored me, if you are working on fixing this bug please let me know, in the mean time please tell me if this is a problem with magic spells or a conflicting plugin or something else
frostwalk still gives me this error. I tried it with "keep frozen" enabled, and disabled. This is an important skill to have for my faction server because it prevents people from creating an unraidable base by putting water on top of their bases.
