MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

The conjure spell can specify the chances of something to drop, but there's no way to guarantee exactly two drops every time.

Posted Apr 24, 2012I have another question and if it can be answered with this mod that it will be the best mod on bukkit. Is there a way that you can left click with and item in your hand and then you are given 2 other items at random out of 5 or 6 items that have been set set?

Posted Apr 24, 2012I can't get the new AreaEffect spell to work properly. It just won't effect the enemy player when the spell is used with AreaEffect, but it still casts and even says No Target Found when there is no player within its range.

Posted Apr 24, 2012Would it at all be possible to limit spell targets via permissions groups. IE spells that could only hit an admin or default user? Also would it be possible to tie mana regen to minecrafts default hunger so that you need to stay full hunger in order to regen mana much like health? Lastly would it be possible to replicate the drinking milk effect to purge all potion effects off a target.
Love the new XP mana bar. Really, really, adds to the mod. The spell effect changes are MASSIVE too.

Posted Apr 23, 2012Is there anyway in which I can use and item to... 1.Warp me to a set warp with a different plugin 2.Change my group on permissionsEx 3.Give a player items when left/right clicked with an item of choice in the players hand. 4. Could any of these be done at the same time
If someone could answer them that would be amazing because this is a good plugin but I can't seem to get them four things to work if they can even work in this plugin because I have heard that they can.

No, it's the version released on april 19th on both servers
Same version on both servers I checked and it's using the exact same configuration
Example of what I mean by the spells "backfiring" this spell works perfectly fine on my test server, it sprouts lava geysers up at all mobs around me. If I use this same spell on the live server though it also causes a geyser to come up under me doing damage to me as well.
same thing is happening with every AreaEffect spell I have. Both servers are mc 1.2.5 with the latest rm build of bukkit, the live server has about 50 more plugins then the test server though.

You have to remove every cost.

You can use the bukkit.yml file to set up an alias if you want to.

Are you running two different MagicSpells versions? The AreaEffect spell changed quite a bit recently.

Posted Apr 21, 2012Ok here's a puzzler for you, I created a lot of .Targeted.AreaEffectSpells on my test server earlier, they all worked perfectly, put them into the live server and now most of them aren't working, they keep backfiring and only affecting the person casting the spell, none of them are working on other players either(not sure if thats even possible yet) the main problem is them affecting the caster though

LOVE this mod.
Any way we could get an option to change the word /cast to something else?
I'm building a Steampunk server where we have skills, not spells, but there's some archano-tech stuff that goes together. I'd love to be able to type /use repair or /skill repair or something other than /cast.

Posted Apr 21, 2012Is the forget spell working as intended? Casting from console yields expected response, but the target of forget still has spells. I am using Craftbukkit version 1.2.5.-R1.0 and MS 2.6.1. Other plugins installed are WorldEdit/Guard, CompassEx, DisguiseCraft, LWC, MoArrows, DarkBrotherhood, HiddenCommandSigns, Ptweaks, and PermissionsBukkit for perms. EDIT: fixed the issue. I believe it to be my fault. I had remnant grant permissions in perms file. Disregard this problem, and keep up the awesome work! I use your source code daily to learn from!
