MagicSpells
Note: MagicSpells is being maintained on this GitHub fork and you can find help at the official Discord.
Info
MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

Posted Apr 26, 2012I have made 2 ConjureSpells for the same item but neither of them work but when I take one of the ConjureSpell off the config file the other ConjureSpell works and it works the other way round. Is there a way to do two separate ConjureSpells for one items because then I can grant access to this spell through permissions and one group uses one ConjureSpell and the other group uses the other ConjureSpell. This would help a bunch :D

Posted Apr 25, 2012Is there a place somewhere on the page where users have submitted their own created spells using the spell creation tutorial? If so, could you direct me there as I have not found it. If not, has anyone out there done this? I'd be interested to check out any spells that didn't get put into the native plugin.

https://bukkit.atlassian.net/browse/BUKKIT-1579
It's a Bukkit issue. It's fixed in the latest dev build of Bukkit.

Started showing up about 10 minutes after I put your latest dev build in. I see nothing in the error that suggests it's MagicSpells causing it but this is the only plugin I've updated in the last 2 days

Posted Apr 25, 2012Your new dev version fixed all of the spell backfiring problems, targeting problems and the error i was having with an areaeffect drain spell, thanks! :)
On a side note would It be possible to make a spell similar to the armor spell but with weapons? Sort of a conjure weapon spell I guess

Ahh, I had no idea players spells were stored there. This explains why it works on a fresh install for me. I seemed to have resolved my own issue, thanks!

Delete your spellbook file, then type 'cast debug' into the console, then log in to the game and tell me what shows up on the console.

No sir I stated that I do not use the Ops file. For shits and giggles I turned ops-have-all-spells off and the problem still persists.

The external command spell allows you to fill in the name of the casting or target player with %a or %t respectively.

Posted Apr 25, 2012Another question, sorry for bugging you, is there a way to change permissionEx groups with an item because you have to type your user name in to change your group as the command is '/pex group <group name> add <player name>' is there a way around this?
Thank you nivsovin for all your help :)

It sounds like you are an op and have the ops-have-all-spells option set to true.
@fuzyfeet
Sorry, that's just not going to happen.
@Rtzon
Perhaps.

Posted Apr 25, 2012I'm having an issue with the latest dev build (and every other one). I am none Ops using only permissions for my server. I have default-all-perms-false set to true with the following permission nodes...
- magicspells.cast.* - magicspells.grant.list - magicspells.grant.bind - magicspells.grant.unbind
But it seems upon typing /c list I am given every spell with the right to cast it. On a fresh install this bug does not exist and I have the correct spells but upon stopping and restarting the server I am granted every one of them.

Posted Apr 24, 2012I've had no luck using bukkit's built in alias system. Every time I make an alias it breaks the plugin. Honestly though I don't want all the spells to use the new alias, I would love it if we could specify an alias in a spell. So if I have a spell called 'wolf' I could make it have the alias call and it would be /call wolf. Then if I have one called 'iron' I could specify the alias 'eat' so it was /eat iron and so on.

Posted Apr 24, 2012Here's the thing: I have members learn 3 different spells from three spellbook bookshelves, which they do. I then have them pick-up a wand item ( a stick). They can't seem to change spell by right clicking or cast by left clicking. I've tested it and found no such problem. Is is a permission thing? They are able to learn & cast by typing /c prayer...etc...

Have you tried setting target-players to true? And are you using the latest dev build?
@rurikar
I'd rather not try to add group-based features, since there isn't a proper API for it. Tying mana regen to hunger is an interesting idea, I'll keep in it mind. I believe there is already a ticket for a 'cleanse' type spell, so I'll probably get around to it eventually.
