MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

The example spell is incorrect (I believe) it should look like this if I'm not mistaken.
spell-class: ".TargetedMultiSpell"
It also seems to not cause the other spells in the list to fail, unless I'm misunderstanding something with the spell.

But still i have a bug :s when i use explode, the "prevent-block-damage = true" dont work fine, a big hole appear xD Is this only me ? Or this bug is known ? (because à search for it on google and it appear that this bug was recently fixed) Well thanks for this plugin again and again ;)

Posted Apr 9, 2012I mean more of an option that can make effects AOE. IE I could use potion effects as an AOE, or use other spells that would affect each players within the range. Like he has for projectiles.
But instead of the effect using the projectile as the source, the player is the source.

Posted Apr 7, 2012@Xikage scrolls still display charges for me if i select or roll over the paper(scroll) with mouse wheel, i think it was only SPELLBOOKS that needed bookwurm, can also stash spells in bookcases no issue. but you need to click to find out what it is. At least on the release I am on, think i am behind by one.
@nisovin - what is the likelyhood of adding permissions for casting spells attached to scrolls seperately to /cast ? That way i can limit players from casting any spells they are not ranked for, but they can still buy a scroll off a wizard rank player to have limited use of that same spell. At the moment even tho they dont have the permission to learn some advanced spells, they still seem able to - so I need to lock up the permissions without effect on game play.
May also be a secondary issue here - the teach spell is allowing players to learn spells they dont have the "learn" permission on?
Eg - my merchant rank:
- magicspells.grant.help
- magicspells.grant.list
- magicspells.learn.repair
Which also inherits from default:
- magicspells.cast.*
But for some reason people on my wizard rank can still teach merchants spells like "teach" and "walkway" when all that should work is repair spell.
Also -
Ideally we need permission nodes like:
- magicspells.revoke.repair
and (using repair as an example)
- magicspells.cast.repair
- magicspells.cast.repair.scroll
- magicspells.cast.repair.spellbook
- magicspells.cast.repair.*

If you actually read the information on this very page, you would have noticed this:
Confirmed Issues in Minecraft 1.2
The minion spell will currently cause a lot of errors. It is recommended to disable it until this is fixed.

Posted Apr 4, 2012I am curious, did you remove the support for Spout displaying the spell bound to scrolls when you mouse over them? I remember reading something about that before, but the feature does not appear to work anymore.

If you know Java you can already make your own spells:

If you don't, the plugin already offers plenty of flexibility, with external command spells, projectile spells, permission spells, etc. It's pretty easy to be creative with spells.

Posted Apr 2, 2012I've been trying to play around with the new Targeted MultiSpells, but haven't had any luck getting them to work. I always either get a "No target found" error, or it just does nothing at all. Am I doing something wrong? Here's an example of what I've tried...
