Description
This plugin is intended to efficiently provide a border for each of your worlds, which only people granted special bypass access are allowed beyond. These borders can be round/elliptic or square/rectangular. As the plugin has been written with performance as the most important goal, it should have no performance impact on your server. Additional world trimming and filling commands are available as well.
Older plugins which originally inspired the creation of this one: rBorder and BorderGuard.
Features
- You can set up a separate border for each world, but only one border per world.
- You can have either round/elliptic or square/rectangular borders. Square/rectangular borders are slightly higher performance, round/elliptic borders make for nicer display maps. Different worlds can have different border shapes if you so choose.
- Configuration and border setup is done completely using commands in-game or through the server console. No need to ever edit the config file directly.
- Support for all permission plugins which interface with Bukkit's built-in "superperms" permission system.
- You can fully generate (fill) your world all the way to the border, filling in any missing chunks, including a configurable buffer zone just outside your border.
- You can trim off any world chunks beyond the border, getting rid of extraneous parts, with a configurable buffer zone left just outside your border.
- You can use a bypass command to allow specific players to go beyond all borders.
- Borders can be automatically displayed in DynMap if you use that plugin.
- All plugin data is automatically saved whenever any borders or settings are changed.
- If a player crosses a border while in a vehicle, the momentum of the vehicle is stopped and it is moved back inside the border with the player.
- When a player is moved back inside a border, they will be moved to a safe vertical location if needed.
- Borders for specific worlds can be set to wrap around instead of just knocking back players who cross the border, instead sending them to the opposite edge of the border.

Of special interest are the Fill command and the Trim command features:

Borders are also displayed automatically by default in DynMap if you have it:

From the commands link at the top of this page:
The /wb command is an alias of the main command /wborder, so unless another plugin interferes, you can use /wb and /wborder interchangeably. You can also use /worldborder.

Very annoying error report. Please provide useful info like the exact error message you get, or if there is none, along with the build number of Craftbukkit along with whether you're running an offshoot build like Spigot or MCPC or similar.

If you have a really high frequency set on the Fill command, any problems with it not using all the resources you think it could are further up the pipeline (CraftBukkit, Minecraft server, Java, or something else in your server setup). On my virtual server setup I can generally get the Fill process to run at a little over twice the default rate if I set a really high frequency.
There are memory problems in 1.7 when filling a large world presumably based on the larger chunk footprint it has over older Minecraft versions, and due to the chunks the Fill process keeps in memory to make sure chunks are fully generated. For those who don't know, surrounding chunks have to also be loaded in order for the world generator to properly fill in a lot of the remaining terrain features.
I plan to spend some time trying to rework the process soon so that it maintains fewer chunks in memory, based on having a bit more experience with how chunk generation is handled by the server. This should take care of any problems with the Fill process when it gets further out in a very large border size.

I think the set and setcorners commands should have things pretty well covered. The set command is for people who want to set it based on a center point, and the setcorners command is for people who know where they want the edges (and therefore corners) of the border to be so they can set based on that rather than a center point.
@TheElm
There is no way I know of to manipulate that quirk of the game to make other places in the world act like that, no.

That almost already exists. The only thing missing is relative coordinates. Reference: http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/worldborder/pages/commands-and-permissions/
/wb [worldname] setcorners <x1> <z1> <x2> <z2> - set a border based on corner coordinates from location (x1, z1) to (x2, z2).

Posted Dec 23, 2013I've been using this plugin in any server update for ages now because of its ability to severely limit how large the map file size can become. As of 1.7.4 of Minecraft, when a player tries to bypass 30,000,000 in any direction from 0,0 the game makes all blocks act as a solid and the player cannot interact with or bypass any blocks from that point (Creating an invisible force field). Is there possibly any way to manipulate this to create a custom invisible wall rather than simply pushing the player back? (As in small areas players can be pushed from underground to the surface, glitch into it, etc etc)

Posted Dec 23, 2013I would like to also make a feature request that some players might find this easy to use and very helpful for their server.
What I am thinking of is to determine the world border by how many blocks from the players location for each direction (North, South, East, West). The command could be something like...
Command: /wb [world] set [N] [E] [S] [W]
Message: &b/wb &2[world] &bset &2[N] [E] [S] [W] &f- set border by cardinal direction

Posted Dec 22, 2013Hey there Brettflan. Love WorldBorder. I have an idea for a creative use of your plugin, but it sadly lacks both of two features I'd need to do it.
I'd like the ability to either center the border on the spawnpoint of a world from the command line, or to center the border on a player from the command line. Something like /wb [worldname] set <radiusX> [radiusZ] (<x> <z> | spawn | <playername>) perhaps.
My idea is dead in the water without at least one of these features, so I'd love to hear what you think about the possibility of implementing one or both, preferably the former. Thanks for everything you do; I'm grateful.

I've been trying to generate a map of the same size and it's been over a day with only about 30% done. Despite my frequency setting, it's only processing around 100 chunks between each progress notification. The exact command I am using is "/wb MyWorld fill 100". I've tried between the default 20 and the 1000 noted on the command description page and there is no performance change no matter what... Any suggestions?
EDIT: Just to be clear, this is in no way maxing out the server's resources. There is much more RAM and CPU that this could be consuming.

Unless you can provide some tangible indication your server lag was caused by WorldBorder, chances are it wasn't. This plugin is among the most efficient and least impacting on server performance. Well, except when in the process of running a Fill or Trim, of course.
By the way, 1.7.7 is uploaded but still waiting on approval from the BukkitDev moderators for it to show up.

Good catch, I missed updating the version there. I'll fix that momentarily.
@Q2Lummox
It generates further padding outside the border by default to cover what players can see from the edge of the border. The documentation is here:

Posted Dec 21, 2013Why continues to generate 200 blocks off the edge that I specified?
Inside the border is a custom map (with worldpainter), but out of edge, generate a 200 blocks with default terrain generator:
http://188.165.233.175:8124
My config:
http://pastebin.com/mj9bzTyN
I can not make smaller the edge, if not "eat" part of the map.
However, the edge (if you look at the version "flat" map), does not reach the end of the map created with "WorldPainter" still lack a bit to get to the end.
But even so, generates an additional 200 blocks of vanilla map ... it does this?.
