Plugin: TrainCarts - Linked Minecarts, sign-redstone systems, easy to use and realistic
Version: v1.73.0
Build: 1.7.2 R0.1/R0.2
Incompatible with: RailCraft
Description
This plugin looks for suitable Minecarts and links them together if possible. When two Minecarts are being "linked", the Minecarts will act as one single moving train.
Once carts are successfully linked, an effect is played and their velocity is shared in combination with an individual factor for each Minecart, which is used to remain a steady gap between carts. This gap is adjustable, the force at which this happens as well.
End result: a train! You can move it, make a roller-coaster out of it, split it in half, watch trains collide, whatever you want to do with trains. :)
As for 1.21, it is also possible to safely exit your train by setting an exit offset with a (sideways) push factor for the train. This feature is disabled by default. (only affects dropped items). If you want to display arrival times on signs (see redstone circuit part) you need SignLink, see the downloads on the bottom of the page.
As for 1.35 you can set train properties to make 'special' trains, or to 'finalize' a train

Links
For configuration, permissions and how-to's, see the Wikipedia page (it is rather long):
Note that I would prefer having comments, bug reports and others in the main Bukkit page, since I visit that site the most. :)
Addons
Special Addons for TrainCarts
Features
- Link minecarts using collision: no commands needed to make a train
- Move trains as easily as you would with single Minecarts
- Store trains to file for persistence during reloads and server restarts
- Use sign-redstone circuits for subway systems, complete railroads and much more
- Station to gracefully stop and launch trains
- Spawn
- Teleport
- Property setters
- Tag systems to switch certain tracks based on tags on the train
- Destination systems to make your train travel to far-away lands all on it's own
- Supports Minecart Mania's features
- Infinite minecart speeds are possible
- Push-away: Push mobs, players and items away from your trains to keep them running
- Everything is configurable, if something proves not to be, I will make it that way
FAQ
When players are near, trains reach their destinations. With no one near, they don't. What do I do?
By default trains do not keep chunks loaded, and they will unload once they move into unloaded chunks. To make trains keep the chunk area (and themselves) around them loaded, set the 'keepchunksloaded' property to True. This can be done using the /train keepchunksloaded true command, using a property sign or by changing it to true in the DefaultTrainProperties.yml file. For more information about train properties, see here.
Why not boats?!?!
Incompatibilities
If you have another plugin that performs similar Minecart replacement techniques, it is likely that TrainCarts will not function or function poorly. For the 'chunk persistence' part of this plugin, other plugins that unload chunks without firing events result in this feature failing. Minebackup is known for having this problem.
Metrics
This plugin sends server count statistics to MCStats.org. You can (globally) opt out in the PluginMetrics/config.yml file.

Update to my update: it DOES happen after awhile; the train will successfully run with the stations pushing off after 5 seconds, but after maybe... 15 minutes? ... they stop again. And no amount of remote signs work once the name of the train is red it seems. :(

I've figured out this does NOT happen if I have the stations set to push off again after 5 seconds (maybe up to 10 seconds.) Beyond that, it's like the train parks and unloads itself.
Any ideas on how to extend this?

Posted May 14, 2014For some reason. This does not work! I get no errors or any problems. They just don't link? Why? I'm using craft bukkit 1.7.9. I have this plugin and BKCommonLib and lots of other lib plugins. The server is happy! But the carts don't link! Why?

Posted May 13, 2014Hello! Thanks to this incredible plugin, my son & I have been using this to build a virtual model railroad. Well, that's the plan anyway. Here's my problem:
I have only 2 stations. They are around 700 meters apart. I will set up a train, and send it on it's way.
I am keeping chunks loaded (which is the only reason the train makes it to the other station; otherwise it would just disappear halfway to the destination), so I'm not sure what more I can do to resolve this. I tried searching through this conversation thread, but it's hard to search or find anything related to this.
Thanks for any ideas!
(Edit: I'm using Bukkit 1.7.2, and the matching versions of TrainCarts)

Posted May 13, 2014On server restart is there a means to get the trains to start running in the direction they were running before the restart if they weren't all stopped on a station sign? Without putting a sign under every block that is.

That would be awesome as a 'sub-plugin' like tc-hangrail

Posted May 4, 2014I have this specific spawning procedure created:
http://i61.tinypic.com/2m4x17r.png
The procedure first spawns the cart on the left, where playerenter is disabled. When the cart stops in the station, I can't enter. Good. After that, the other 5 carts spawn, where playerenter is enabled. When the 5 cars connect with the 1 cart in the station and stops, I can enter all carts, even the first cart.
How can I fix this? It's really important that people can't access the first train.

Posted Apr 29, 2014I love traincarts but I've been having issues with it while it runs on my server:
My automated trains (usually only about 3 to 5 trains) can run fine for hours, no lag or anything but then overnight, I'll come back and trains are missing and this is in the console:
(Top is most recent of course. Start at the bottom.)
It seems maybe a memory leak? There is never anyone on the server but me, and this always happens hours after I log off.
I'm using both the latest versions of Traincarts and BKCommonLib. (1.73.0 and 1.57) & Craftbukkit 1.7.2 (Updating to later versions breaks BKCommonLib.)
I have more than 2 Gb of ram (supposedly. I'm not very happy with MCProHosting and wouldn't be surprised if they're lying.)

I don't think you can set it with a property sign, you need to configure it in your train defaults file (one of the .yml files - look for a 'pickup' setting in the config files) :)

Have you tried running the latest (unsupported) development builds?
http://ci.dj-tcraft.nl/job/BKCommonLib/366/artifact/target/BKCommonLib-1.58-SNAPSHOT.jar
for BKCommonLib ^
and...

for TrainCarts

Posted Apr 25, 2014This is a lovely plugin indeed and I already got my server operating about 9 large train lines in which 7 of them being around 1024 blocks in length with 2 being 2048 in length. However, I noticed that if I update to version 1.7.9, it will completely kill the TrainCarts systems that I have worked hard to construct on my server. I would highly appreciate it if you could generously perform an update to version 1.7.9 to allow players like me to continue using this great plugin.
Sincerely, Mephisto43
