Storm
Ever bored with the vanilla weather? Storm is a plugin that adds a whole new range of weather mechanics to Bukkit servers.

Features
- Acid Rain: Green rain, which damages players and animals, as well as deteriorates blocks. Turn a 'grey day' into a 'radioactive-green' day!
- Blizzards: Makes snow a real threat! Players and entities caught outside during a blizzard will experience snow acting as slow sand, limited visibility, and cold damage, so long as they are not inside or near a heating block.
- Thunder Storms: If supercharged creepers were not already a threat, how will your players react to hordes of zombie pigmen? Thunder storms are massive discharges of lightning over a short period of time, in which players will be hard-pressed to survive.
- Meteors: Fireballs trailed by explosions, burrowing in the ground, and flattening all entities in their path. Players who survive, however, can delight themselves with the ores the meteor leaves behind.
- Wildfires: We can all safely say vanilla fires are boring. To spice up the game, we've added wildfires; a naturally occurring event in which entire forests will be devoured by fire with pre-1.6B physics.
- Earthquakes: With massive rifts opening up, screens shaking, and blocks flying about, Storm earthquakes will be an experience for your players to remember. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
- Volcanoes: Large mounds of lava spurting out of the ground, explosions and flying lava bombs. Fun, fun, fun. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
Getting started with Storm
If you are a visual learner, this video by WoopaGaming is for you! Some information is outdated, but the gist remains the same.
You can gain some more in-depth information from this "Curse Minecraft Spotlight" on Storm, as it presents most of the features of Storm in a nice format. Thanks to Xenius01 of Curse for this one!
Storm has a command for all its weather types:
| Command | Usage | Permission | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| /acidrain | /<command> [world] | storm.acidrain.command | Starts acid rain in specified world. |
| /blizzard | /<command> [world] | storm.blizzard.command | Starts a blizzard in specified world. |
| /thunderstorm | /<command> [world] | storm.thunderstorm.command | Starts a thunder storm in specified world. |
| /wildfire | /<command> [world] | storm.wildfire.command | Starts a wildfire where player is looking at. |
| /meteor | /<command> [world] | storm.meteor.command | Spawns a meteor and targets the block the player is looking at. |
| /volcano | /<command> [world] | storm.volcano.command | Spawns a volcano at the targeted block. |
| /earthquake | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a earthquake at the targeted block. |
| /cracks | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a crevice at the targeted block. |
And immunity permissions from their associated weathers:
| Immunity | Permission | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Acid Rain Damage | storm.acidrain.immune | Prevents damage from acid rain. |
| Blizzard Damage | storm.blizzard.immune | Prevents damage from blizzards. |
| Lightning Attraction | storm.lightning.immune | Prevents extra damage from lightning & lightning attraction. |
| Meteor Damage | storm.meteor.immune | Prevents damage from meteor shockwaves. |
If Storm doesn't load, first, make sure that you are running a compatible build of Storm. For example, 0.1.2 will run only on Bukkit 1.4.6, while 0.1.2 R1 will only run on 1.4.7. You can see the supported versions in the Files menu. If that doesn't work or Storm throws exceptions, leave a ticket.
When asking for support...
...please answer the following questions: they help us get back to you quicker and consequently address any issues faster.
- What Storm version are you running? Be specific.
- What server implementation are you running (usually CraftBukkit)?
- What Minecraft version are you running?
- What is the issue you are experiencing?
- Provide a traceback, if the issue is a crash and a log is available.

I can understand getting sad feedback, but you got negative feedback? Like, people getting up in your grill about you not wanting to continue? That seriously sucks.

Posted Dec 31, 2012Returning from a reinvigorating ski trip in the Rocky Mountains, I was astounded at the amount of negative and sad feedback I received on my action of killing this project. This page; my email; my PM box; comments on videos of Storm, all were filled with pleas to continue this project, and not let it die.
And so, I have taken the time to update Storm to CraftBukkit v1.4.6.
Please note that Storm WILL continue to be updated every MC build for the foreseeable future in which Bukkit lives (I doubt it will be long: Bukkit just shot itself in the foot). New features will not be added.
Basically, how Storm will work is that it will go into a sort of limbo on an unsupported MC version. It will not disable itself, but rather deny all Storm commands and events from executing.
This build is already completed: I should probably be able to get a release within a week with testing and whatnot.
Happy New Year everyone!

You can find Libigot here :) And no, because BukkitDev does not accept such plugins made for forks. And I do not wish to be spammed by bug reports of ClassNotFound exceptions because of this Bukkit crap: hence my pulling the plug on this project, and all other ones that I own and use NMS.
And yes, I do plan on leaving Bukkit development. It's been a nice stay, but now with this change I've realized I can do more productive things with my time. I do not speak for the entire team, though: Xiaomao and Thidox may continue development.

Does that mean it's still possible for you to update it, provided with the Bukkit fork?
Also, I can't seem to find anything regarding Libigot.
And also, now that this commit has made into the RB, do you really plan on stopping Bukkit development completely?

You still can: some people who are against this commit created forks of Bukkit which are still capable of running Storm and any other plugin. Look up 'Libigot', and I'm sure you'll find something :-)

Oh no! I loved this and the ability to dissolve my servers. :(
I will miss this more than any plugin. I feel like when google reader was gutted.
Is there any chance that a subset of Storm can be made to work? Really, I personally would be happy with just the acid rain (without custom textures) and meteors.

I doubt it :-( I mean, these are the people who reject commits made by developers under the basis of 'using NMS calls', only to make said commit themselves and claim all the credit for it.
And I also doubt they will revert. The past few days have been full of Git activity on that commit's page, with over 90% of people being against it. And yet, still not reverted.
Lastly, if this commit makes it to an RB, I plan on stopping Bukkit development completely. I have one more hack up my sleeve, and if it does not work/gets rejected by the admins which are afraid of bytecode manipulation, I will just port Storm to Spout when I have the time and will.

Due to a recent CraftBukkit commit, development of Storm has ceased indefinitely.
It was hard enough to update Storm to begin with, now with this, it has become practically impossible.
This commit breaks practically every aspect of Storm, and makes backwards compatibility unfeasible.
We hope you understand.

Posted Dec 10, 2012@ xiaomao5, Thank you!
One more question: Is it possible to configure the meteors so that they don't turn a boime into a snow biome? My server is jungle-themed, so that is a neccesity. Also, can they be changed so that they aren't filled with rediculous amounts of valuable ore?
I love the idea of meteors, but they change the game and the map so much that I wouldn't ever use them.
