How do I use it ?
Don't want to watch the awesome video ? Fine, here are the basic commands.
/mv create skylands normal -g SkylandsPlus
Or a skylands style Nether like this
/mv create skylands nether -g SkylandsPlus
Or a skylands style End like this
/mv create skylands the_end -g SkylandsPlus
Other world management plugins should have similar commands, I use Multiverse on my server which is why I only provide the instructions for that. The documentation for which ever plugin you use should tell you how to do it. You can also add a world by editing the bukkit.yml file, instructions on how to do that can be found on the Bukkit wiki.
Config
prevent-sand-falling: true restrict-mob-spawning: true
prevent-sand-falling - When set to true no sand will fall in skylands worlds.
restrict-mob-spawning - When set to true the number of mobs in a single chunk will be limited to a sane amount in skylands worlds.
Contributing
Contributions to the project are very much welcome, if you have a feature that you want implemented and know a nice way to do it then consider forking the repo and submitting a pull request. These will be accepted as long as the following simple guidelines are followed.
- Do not edit the structure of the pom.xml file, feel free to add a dependency if you need it but the formatting and structure should not be changed.
- If you are exposing a new API method, add a JavaDoc comment to it, but don't over-comment internal code.
- Follow the existing code style, don't antagonise over every space though !
All dependencies that are used are now available from a public Maven repo, so you don't have to worry about building several other projects just to add a simple change any more.

Posted Mar 21, 2012Hi..
I tried making a skylands world with multiverse, but using the commands u wrote there only makes a normal world. is there a way to check what generators are loaded in Multiverse?

Not sure yet. I'm pretty busy with my upcoming exams at the moment. I'll try and get a working version out this weekend.

No, it happens because the spawn area is not on land. You have to go into creative and fly to an island and set it manually.

Posted Mar 19, 2012Pandamatak's suggestion, to have islands varied over all heights sounds fantastic. I really hope you will find the time to fine-tune the generator for that. But even when I had no look into the code myself I know its more than meets the eyes.
However, maybe its an interesting idea for you to at least lighten up the upper islands by reducing the island generation for at least 50%. From my tests Im sure that would improve the overall looksy of the generated worlds. (would also be a nice idea for configurable generation options...)
Also, I suggest to add a tip to your "how-to"-info to use the Worldborder plugin for map generation. Even when we have a powerhorse of a server I already prefer to pregenerate our world for our production servers and Worldborder is a fantastic tool for pregen!
So far!
Keep up the great work, gentlebeings! Love the Skylands!

Unfortunately yes, islands do receive shadows from above when they overlap each other. For your suggestion, it is currently not possible until we can come up with a new generation algorithm. The current method of generating skylands is actually generating two skylands with 2 different seeds and then combine them together. Which is slow and inefficient sadly :(

Posted Mar 18, 2012I'm just curious - I understand that skylands now has two levels of islands that are far from each other (vertically). Does this mean the islands on the bottom receive shadows from the islands on the top?
Also, a suggestion: Could you make it so that instead of two layers of islands, islands can spawn between the two layers so they're all around the spectrum in terms of height? And with jungle biomes we could maybe use jungle trees to climb up to the island above.

Both of those things have already been reported many times.

Posted Mar 18, 2012Ok MAJOR BUGs to report here:
First and most important, the alpha version of 0.10 LAGS LIKE HELL. As soon as i started the creation process of skylands, my computers memory maxed out at 8gb and froze everything. Obviously you cant have a plugin that does this. I also noticed that NoLagg made this even worse, and put up an error:
Second, also very important is that the bottom of the second story skylands is flat, Which looks absolutely horrible. it would be nicer if it was rounded with stone and ores. If this couldnt be fixed, it would be nice if you could make an option to have all the current features, but somewhere in the config, decide whether you wanted 1 story or 2 story. i know this is long but thanks for reading :D!

The flat islands are a bug and jungles are coming as soon as I get some time to work on this.

Posted Mar 16, 2012I usually set this up prior to using the multiverse commands....to doubly make sure. This may solve your world generation.

Posted Mar 16, 2012Hey, I really liked the concept of skylands so I thought I would try your plugin. I ended up putting it in my Bukkit server, but when i used the command "/mv create skylands normal -g SkylandsPlus" to make a new world, the world was just a regular, plain old minecraft world when i entered it. is there any way i can fix this?

At some point in the future. Really hard to say when exactly.
@Zealic
The latest stable build (0.9.2) should work with any version of bukkit after R1. Other than that I don't really know what I can say without an explanation of the problem you are having. Look up how to use custom generators I guess, Multiverse is by far the easiest way.

Posted Mar 16, 2012Im absolutely new to making a server (put mine up yesterday for a couple friends and I) and I want to use skylands but It wont even enable into the server, Im using the BukkitDev version of the server (my tech master friend says its better?) and neither does BIoman and Multiverse. I want these to work so I can have more fun exploring with my friends, we usuallty get stuck in one biome and it blows. help or links would be great. (what builds work with what and so on)
