In depth information on Claims and Power
In Simple Factions, the power system is very similar to the popular Factions plugin's power system. There are a few distinct differences, so I will explain the power system in it's entirety on this page.
What is power?
Players need power to be able to claim territory. If you die a lot or stay offline, you will lose power. If you stay online and help your faction, you can gain more power. Every player has a max and current power (seen on /sf player). Faction power is derived from all of the combined player's power within the faction. By default, it simply adds everyone's power together (seen on /sf info).
Why am I losing power?
Several things can cause you to lose power, some more than others. You can lose power from the following things.
- Staying offline - Being offline will slowly drain your power (by default). This can be changed in the configs.
- Enemy players in your territory - By default, having a lot of enemies running around in your territory will cause you and your faction member's power to slowly drain.
- Dying - If you die a lot, your power will decrease. You lose more power if killed by a player, than if you were killed by the environment or a mob.
How do I gain power?
Stay online, and stay alive! To get more power for your faction; invite more people to play with you. There is power in numbers, literally!
Claiming
With the /sf claim command, officers and leaders of a faction are able to claim territory for their faction. Claims are 3D chunks (by default) in simple factions. By default, claims are chunks on a 16 x 16 x 16 grid (this may vary, depending on server configs). By default, if a chunk is claimed, no one but your faction and it's allies are able to edit the terrain. In addition, you do not want enemy players standing around on your land, it may cost you power!
Why can't I claim?
You need power to claim. If you have members with negative power within your faction, you're gonna have a bad time. Be sure to keep everyone safe, dying will lead to headaches.
Claiming over enemy land
When a faction has more claimed land than they do power, they are vulnerable! This can happen because a faction claimed too much land, and then somebody in their faction died a lot. When they are vulnerable, you are able to claim OVER their land. This means that any of their land is now subject to your claiming. Try to get a strategic spot, if you notice they are vulnerable. This is key to destroying an enemy faction.
Explosions and "griefing"
In Simple Factions, explosive damage is enabled by default when a faction is online; but disabled by default if a faction is offline. This means that you can launch TNT into enemy land when they are online, to raid them. If they are offline, by default TNT will not affect their land. This is to avoid 3AM raiding and logging in to your stuff being gone. However, to prevent the scenario "HEY EVERYONE LOG OUT QUICK" there is a small delay. In /sf info, there is a countdown timer to being "actually offline." By default it takes 300 seconds before a faction is considered to be really offline. In my personal opinion; if it's possible using the mechanics of the game; it's not griefing (unless you're playing on a hugbox server that changes the configs to make nothing fun possible). My point is that if you don't want your players griefing each other; change the settings in the plugin to make it impossible to grief. Don't ban players for your own mistakes!
That's all I've got for now. If you have questions, I will happily answer them and update this page if needed.

If the server admin has left SF on the default settings - Yes.
