Hello everybody,
This is Tobias aka Phoenix, the developer of this project. I am sad to inform you that RegionForSale, just like the Bukkit project, is pretty much dead nowadays. I do not like the fact that Minecraft is owned by Microsoft and, even though I respect the company, I cannot see how the spirit of Minecraft fits in there at all. Shame on you for selling, Notch! I do not care about the money involved. But this game, no matter how much profit it generates, belongs into the hands of loving, independent developers (Just like Bukkit – love you guys). My opinion. To be fair: My interest shifted in general as well. So overall, I am not willing to work on this project for free anymore.
Q: What about security updates / bugfixes?
A: I will do my best to still fix those and upload a new version for you. I do not want to let you down.
Q: Will you continue if I donate xx dollar?
A: Probably not. Please try to estimate the time I spend and apply a horrific minimal wage – I am sure you still do not want to pay that. Yes, it’s quite some time.
I still want to thank you very much for the few donations I received up to this point. Developing was fun and I was so very euphoric when I received my first donation. I still remember quite well. Not to forget about the many supportive comments and “thank you”s I received despite the money.
Sincerely,
Phoenix_IV

RegionForSale provides an automatic update checker to let you get informed as soon as a new version is available. If you do not want to use this feature you can set check_for_updates to false in the general.yml config file.
Todo
- Quick-set options on signs
- Give users, who rented a region, the possibility to buy it (without unrenting + possible rebuilding). The other way round would be retarded - Tell me if you don't think so.

Please be a little bit more precise; you're not giving any details.
Please notice that the default unit-type for price-calculation is square-meter. This means that the price you've set will be multiplied with the amount of blocks on the surface of your region. To set the price absolute please make use of the unit-type region.
If this was the problem: Please consider reading at least the most important parts of the plugin's documentation^^

No, but I might code something if there is enough interest.
However, something that can speed the whole process up: Pre-configure the region pricing (Shouldn't be too much work; usually it's enough to set them globally or per parent-region) and then use a plugin/mod that allows you to auto-set signs (including text). Set the text to "[RegionMarket]" in the first row and then go from region to region, place a sign and right-click a block in the region.

I think it's not going to happen that normal players will be able to found their own towns, but I have a special reason for this: Founding towns is really something that shouldn't happen regular and as far as I know administrators usually want to keep an eye on such big projects. However, players can still make an application; it shouldn't be much administrative work as it does not happen every day.
What I would like to introduce are majors. At first majors are allowed to create/remove/edit regions inside a parent-region (most likely a town) (Hope I will be able to get this to work with WorldGuard) and secondly a mayor or bank-account could maintain the region's funds.
I would say this is a really good solution.
Thanks for the feedback.

Posted Jun 15, 2013Looks simple and brilliant, but it has only one limitation, which was spoken about before: it cant work as a complete substitution for towns-organising plugins, as there is no way for players to become mayors themselves, automatically.
Adding such a feature would turn upside-down the whole configuration, I guess. But still I like autonomous plugins more, as they help to create the community, that's why I beg you to try to make it work in such a way, that players are able to make parent town regions themselves (for a configurable price), after that managing them, making plots, making them for sale etc.
Thank you very much for attention.

Seems to be the default WorldGuard behavior. Great that it fits your server so very well :)

Posted Jun 13, 2013Not sure if this was intended or not, but when someone either unrents a plot on purpose, or cannot pay rent and it unrents automatically, any chests inside are automatically unlocked.
Which is Brilliant!!!
This gives a new dimension to our bandit nation on my server. When someone cant pay their rent, all of their stuff goes up for grabs. It's a beautiful thing.

Hey Tetdoss,
Yes, this is normal. The tradeable regions, which can be bought using signs, can't be parent-regions at the same time. The only thing you could do is to let your players now that they can contact you to become a mayor. Then you could put a regular fee on them.
However, this person will have no possibility to manage the regions in the town. But: This possibility is planned for the future. It would allow admins to declare players as "RFS admins" within a certain area and set one player as the receiver for the money from the regions.

Posted Jun 6, 2013yeah something still isn't working. I set the max-regions-per-player: 1. and nothing changed.
I'm trying to isolate the problem, Does setting rg set max-regions # for the parent region overwrite the group setting?
I changed it also to 1. and no change. I'm going to PM a link to my rfs folder, if you could check it out and let me know what i am doing wrong.

A max-regions-per-player limit of zero (0) states an UNLIMITED amount of regions. Setting it to '1' will solve the problem.
If a user should be able to buy 0 (no) regions don't give him the buying-permission.

Posted Jun 5, 2013Having some strange conflict somewhere, Hoping you can help.
Below is a section of the config. I added regionsforsale.group.peasant/nomad/etc to each Pex group as instructed to use the group settings below.
I also changed "max-regions-per-player: 0" under permissions to 0-5.
Players of all ranks are still able to rent as many regions as they can afford.
permissions: permission-required-buy: true permission-required-rent: true max-regions-per-player: 0 # max-rent-time in minutes. Zero -> infinite max-rent-time: 0 # Some settings can be specialized for groups as done below. If the player is in more than one group the highest # figure counts. To add a player to a group give him the permission "regionforsale.group.<GROUP-NAME>" group-settings: peasant: max-regions-per-player: 1 noble: max-regions-per-player: 2 knight: max-regions-per-player: 3 templar: max-regions-per-player: 4 titan: max-regions-per-player: 5-

I use Dynmap-Worldgaurd to do this. By default i have regions with no owners as bright green, and regions with owners as black. So when people look at our map, they can see which are available and which are not. We have Nations set up in our server, each with a custom color, so i set those up as well on the map to easily identify where each nation is in relation to one another.
It does not however show how much the rent is on each plot.
