Grief Prevention
AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS ALL FORMS OF GRIEF, including build/break, theft, spam, fire, spawn camping, lava dumping, chat trolling, advertising and more, so you don't have to undo any damage after the fact. It even teaches players how to use it so you don't have to! No configuration or database required. Stop responding to grief and prevent it instead. Grief Prevention will solve your grief problems without requiring you to manage a roster of trained administrators, juggle 10 different anti-grief plugins, take away cool standard game features, publish a training manual / tutorial for players, or add explanatory signs to your world. You can also choose to integrate PvP elements into build design to finally get a PvP experience befitting a sandbox game about creative building.
Grief Prevention stops grief before it starts automatically without any effort from administrators, and with very little (self service) effort from players. Solve all your grief problems with a single download, no database, and no configuration step.

Please Vote for Grief Prevention
I've also posted Grief Prevention on the Spigot site, where plugins are ranked based on reviews. If you love GP, please take a couple of minutes to give GP your rating and leave a short review. Better rating and positive reviews will help server owners who look for plugins on the Spigot site make the safe choice (GP) instead of downloading something sketchy or incomplete. :) Thanks so much for all your support!

Posted Jul 5, 2012This would be perfect if it could somehow replace the factions protection system and provides claim blocks based on power level used in factions. Since this plugin is meant for survival.

The string has been replaced by a stick now. You can change it back in the config if you prefer it.

Posted Jul 4, 2012I'm having a problem with people who aren't trusted in claims being able to still shear sheep. It's really irritating one of the players on my server. He hasn't changed his access at all- is this a bug, or should I tell him to completely close off the farm? :)

Posted Jul 4, 2012Ok, I updated, and now the string thing doesn't work anymore. Normally when you right click a claim with string, it will show you the claim. Now it says, "WorldGuard: No regions defined here!" but it doesn't show the claim.

Fixed, thank you. :)
I don't think the too many files open issue is due to my plugin, because I always close files right after opening them. However I will look into it.

@SmoothNanners
Okay, I think I get it. Let me think a little on it. If I can figure a way to do this simply so that it doesn't make life difficult for me or others with more "typical" server configs, then I'll add it for you.
@freemandt
I assume you're talking about a survival mode world, right? Check your config to make sure your world isn't listed as a "creative rules world", which doesn't allow anyone to make any changes outside of their claimed areas. Anyway, I tried this in survival mode with zero permissions for myself, and I could collect unclaimed lava both on the surface and underground (but couldn't dump it on the surface). Maybe there are some details you left out? Please tell me if you think of anything else that may be relevant. :)
@Patrick_Janson
I'm using the built-in Vanilla ban list. The correct command to remove a name from that list is /pardon. That /unban command must be some other plugin you have installed. You might want to contact that developer and ask him or her to also make sure that when a player is unbanned from his/her private ban list, they're also unbanned from the standard ban list.
@einarnor97
Yes, this is mentioned in the docs above. Use /containertrust <player> or /containertrust <public>.
@judam
That's by design. If explosions were allowed to destroy blocks in claimed areas, griefers would use block physics to "push" TNT into claims and blow up builds.

Posted Jul 4, 2012Thanks for the previous help!
I have one last noob question, I hope.
None of the players in my world seem to be able to use an empty bucket to gather lava. I managed to gather some by changing my gamenode and flying to a surface lava pit, but I could not gather any from a mine. I checked for claims and there were none.
Ideas of what I may have missed?

The way GP handles PvP works great with other maps on the server, and this is the reason why I think a permission would work better than a config setting, but when it comes to having hardcore survival minigames in separate worlds, GP's PvP protection interferes with the experience to an enormous extent.
If someone doesn't obtain any items, they won't be able to be slain properly. I will highly appreciate a permission to enable the injuring of defenseless players. This will allow Grief Prevention to be even more flexible with a wider variety of server setups.

Posted Jul 3, 2012Ok 2 things!
1) If Player A is trusted by Player B, but Player B is offline, then Player A is apparently unable to plant/grow trees in Player B's claim. This was reported to me by the players so I am not sure any other details at the moment.
2) I am not sure if this bug is related to this plugin but I thought I would report it just in case, because I cannot determine:
After about a week or so, the java starts spamming severe errors claiming that there are too many files open. This crashes the entire thing until a restart of bukkit.
If it's not your bug don't worry about it, but this is one of the plugins that handles a single file for each player.
Cheers!

I may think about going in this direction after I've finished the rest of my todo list. Right now I have an option to lock all doors to code, a few tweaks in the pipe, and a SQL option in the works. I don't want to start working on features for modded servers while bukkit servers have some requests outstanding.

Any chance of you adding a config option for additional 'container-like' block IDs into the config file? The popularity of things like Tekkit (and the downright fun of playing with mods) leads me to expect that a great many servers out there would benefit from your plugin, if only they could add additional blocks to the ones protected.
Though even better would be someone stepping up to add a plugin to GP to add certain blocks as containers automatically when some mods are detected as running. Or just auto-add all unknown blocks as protected, since it is better to be safe than sorry, and really, most of the addon blocks probably should be protected.

I don't quite understand. Do you mean stand on top of a house and rapidly try to place blocks under you, even though the area is claimed? Anyway it sounds like a Mojang bug to me, I doubt there's anything I can do. There's also a Mojang bug involving doors and ender pearls which is exploitable.
