What is Factions?
With this plugin players group up in Factions. You claim land as your own and build your base. Factions is a self serve anti griefing system. Leaders control who can can edit their faction land.
Factions is also about diplomacy and war. You declare wars and forge alliances. You fight over land and manage your monetary expenses.
Install
- Stop your server.
- Put MassiveCore.jar in your plugins folder. Download MassiveCore here on BukkitDev.
- Put Factions.jar in your plugins folder.
- Start your server again.
- Configure (Optional)
New In Factions 2.8
- Reworked Commands - /f rank, /f invite, /f flag and /f perm.
- Added Commands - /f setpower, /f status, /f unstuck and /f tt.
- WorldGuard - Readded a simple integration.
- Tab Completion - Tab completion now available for everything!
- Interactive Text - Clickable buttons for list and help commands.
- 1.8 Titles - Optionally used for territory info.
- Animals Flag - New flag similar to the Monsters flag.
- Performance - Further work on improved performance.
- Bug Fixes - Loads of minor bugs were fixed.

Copy this and replace it with your chat tag settings. restart your server and try your chat, this should work, it took me 20 min to get it right, you just need some chat plugin knowledge, and use trial and error to figure it out :P

I have made the permissions to:
- -factions.kit.create
- -factions.kit.home
- -factions.kit.join
- -factions.kit.leave
in PEX and still, I as a guest am able to leave a faction, create a faction and even do /f home. So clearly the default perms that factions gives are not even able to be over powered by a permissions plugin.

I understand that there is only one protection now, but what I don't understand is why the offline protection was removed as a separate option. Now I will either have to turn explosions off all together, making faction wars boring because there is no possibility of sieges. Or having them on all the time, which would mean players could just wait for a rival faction to go offline and TNT cannon their base without any opposition at all. The offline protection options made players feel safe in knowing that, while they are building in a possibly hostile environment, their creations would be safe if the faction had no one on because of time zone differences or personal reasons like work, school, etc. This gave fairness to people who couldnt be on at the same time as everyone else, while still being able to participate in the world. I hope this feature is coming back, otherwise 1.6 will be the last factions version I can use :(

Posted Nov 10, 2012Behind the names of those who are in factions, it says f (InsertFactionNameHere)f This is very annoying, because if I have a faction called for example, Bukkit, it'll say f Bukkitf[Owner]JunKunl I tried to look up prefixes in the config, but I couldn't get anything. How do I fix this?

Posted Nov 10, 2012yes seems to be a common problem. If someone could tell me how to fix the problems in the nameing AND how to disable the chest protections so that only chests with blocks on top of them are protected it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Posted Nov 10, 2012I am having a problem with thenames of factions. for instance if I were to create a faction named flip this will show up in public chat as 'aflip r' What are the "a" and "r" and how do I get rid of them?

Posted Nov 10, 2012I have one problem, how do you make it so that chests are openable no matter what. I would like to make it so that if someone comes into an enemies faction they can loot the chest UNLESS there is a block over it?

I got TNT on in the pvp world, but it makes a big mess of the faction homes.

No, you misunderstood. There is no distinction between offline and online now for protection, no separate options for it. Protection works the same whether players from the faction are online or not. I'm not sure how else to explain it, that should be clear enough.
Oh, and Curtis4321 pointed out faction chat which is another potentially gone feature depending on whether you're using HeroChat or not.

Olof felt faction chat was too clunky and prone to conflict with other plugins, so he stripped it out in favor of adding integration with HeroChat to provide chat channels for that. Sorry, but based on that I don't foresee it coming back.

Oh, so there is no offline protection then against creepers or tnt? That's no good... Am I missing something?
Now players will just wait until a faction is offline so they can just TNT cannon everything without anyone defending. And disabling explosions completely makes sieges impossible.
Please tell me I'm missing something here.

Offline protection doesn't have separate options for it, so there's no online/offline distinction. I already mentioned the explosions all being blocked by a single protection, no individual options for it. The options for hiding enemy and neutral factions on the map are also gone, along with "worldsNoWildernessProtection". Those are the main things I have noted down.

I could have sworn I posted an answer; maybe the site ate it. /f config works fine if you do indeed have the proper permission for it. You say you're an Op, which should grant that permission, so I don't really have any further advice.

You can actually use WorldGuard to block mobs from spawning in your safezone, which I'm pretty sure blocks them from wandering in too.

Posted Nov 9, 2012Are the /f config commands not working with 1.4.2? I am op on my server and I am trying to get the factions set up how we want but I don't have access to the actual file. Can you tell me if there is anything I can do? The guy who owns the server is not as active as I am so getting him to do stuff can be difficult at times.
