Dynmap®
* MAIN SUPPORT IS NOW ON DISCORD *
For further discussion and announcements, see us on Reddit or Twitter.
A Google Maps-like map for your Minecraft server that can be viewed in a browser. Easy to set up when making use of Dynmap's integrated webserver which works out-of-the-box, while also available to be integrated into existing websites running on Apache and the like. Dynmap can render your worlds using different renderers, some suitable for performance, some for high detail.
Components allow you to add/remove functionality to make Dynmap suit your needs. Using the components Dynmap comes supplied with, there is support for chat balloons, web-to-game chat, and configurable markers, areas, and lines.
Features
- Highly configurable maps per world
- Real-time updates: maps are kept in sync with your world in real-time, updates are shown while your leave your browser open
- Players with their faces are visible on the map
- Chat messages are visible (as balloons or in a chatbox) on the map.
- Map viewers can chat to players in-game.
- Current Minecraft time is visible on the map.
- Current Minecraft weather is visible on the map.
- WorldGuard, Residence, Towny and Factions regions that can be visible on the map (through corresponding Dynmap-* plugins)
- Overall highly configurable and customizable.
Installation
Copy dynmap-*.jar into your plugins directory. If you are upgrading, delete the previous dynmap-*.jar - you do NOT need to delete the plugins/dynmap directory or its contents.
If you are running a separate webserver (like Apache) you may need to copy the files from 'plugins/dynmap/web/' to a directory in your http-root and follow this guide. When upgrading, make sure you also upgrade the copied files.
First time use
When you start CraftBukkit, you should be able to navigate to http://yourserverip:8123/ in your browser. In case you are running CraftBukkit on the PC you are currently working on, you can navigate to http://localhost:8123/. You should be able to see the players who are in-game. Note that the map is not yet rendered, therefore the background will be black.
If you are planning on using the HD renderer, now would be a good time to do so. Enable 'deftemplatesuffix: hires' in the top of configuration.txt. More information about deftemplatesuffix is available at Base plugin settings.
If you just want to see Dynmap work, use the following command in-game: /dynmap fullrender. The wiki contains more information about commands and permissions. The map should reveal itself gradually in the browser, give it some time. Progress messages indicate that Dynmap is working and will show when the render is completed.
Configuration
Dynmap Add-Ons:
Both to demonstrate the API, and to help manage the growth of this already-huge plugin, we've started producing additional plugins for Dynmap. All of these will depend on Dynmap and interface through its APIs, but only need to be added by folks that are interested in the additional function they provide:
- dynmap-mobs: Provides marker layer for real-time position of selected mobs on dynmap maps.
- dynmap-residence: Successor to the 'regions' support for Residence in Dynmap, with live update of Residence changes
- Dynmap-WorldGuard: Successor to the 'regions' support for WorldGuard in Dynmap, with live update of WorldGuard changes
- Dynmap-Towny: Successor to the 'regions' support for Towny in Dynmap, with live update of Towny changes
- Dynmap-Factions: Successor to the 'regions' support for Factions in Dynmap, with live update of Factions changes
- Dynmap-CommandBook: Add support for showing /home and /warp locations defined using CommandBook.
- Dynmap-Essentials: Add support for showing /home and /warp locations defined using Essentials.
- Dynmap-GriefPrevention: Add support for showing Grief Protection claims
- Dynmap2CraftIRC3: Integrate Dynmap's web chat with IRC via CraftIRC
- Dynmap-SimpleClans: Integrate SimpleClans with Dynmap
- Dynmap-HeroChat: Integrate HeroChat v5.5+ with Dynmap
- Dynmap-PhysicalShop
- Dynmap-pyLandmarks
- Dynmap-PreciousStones: Integrate PreciousStones with Dynmap
- Dynmap-AdminCmd: Integrate AdminCmd with Dynmap
- Dynmap-PlayerWarp
- Dynmap-Citizens: Integrate Citizens with Dynmap
Mods integrated with Dynmap:
The following mods are known to support dynmap integration without needing an add-on:
Also, for the best response to questions and such, please post comments to our main forum thread - http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1543523-dynmap-dynamic-web-based-maps-for-minecraft/. Once again, having more than one place just isn't helpful, and this is where the 'Dynmap Community' already operates.
Disclosure
This plugin utilizes bStats.org plugin metrics system, which means that the following information is collected and sent to bstats.org:
- A unique identifier
- The server's version of Java
- Whether the server is in offline or online mode
- The plugin's version
- The server's version
- The OS version/name and architecture
- The core count for the CPU
- The number of players online

Donations and Tips
Dynmap and my other mods and plugins have always been free, as I work on them as time permits and not as a job - the upside is that the price is good, the downside is they get the time I have left after working, taking care of my family, and other things!
I've set up a coffee-fund jar (I believe in the theory that software developers are machines that turn caffeine into code), for anyone who wants to throw in some tips! For Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/dynmap or for Ko-Fi https://ko-fi.com/michaelprimm

Posted Aug 29, 2012So dynmap is constantly attempting to connect to Covenant Eyes (or Daystar Communications). This serves no purpose, as I am blocking that traffic and dynmap works just fine.
Why is dynmap doing this? I don't like things like this, especially with Java involved, attempting to connect to some random place for no reason.

Posted Aug 29, 2012I'm attempting to move a line with the label "Blue Line" in the default "markers" set to a set called "Minerail tracks". I see no documentation for this in "using markers", and running "/dmarker updateline "Blue Line" set:"Minerail tracks" gives me an error that Blue Line can't be found, even though "/dmarker updateline "Blue Line" works for modifying any other parameter of the line.
Might be good to have a paragraph on actually adding markers to sets in the documentation. I've tried every permutation I can think of for all relevant-looking commands, with no success.

If you are on linux change whole craftbukkit folder and all sub-folders and files to you as a owner like this:
sudo chown -R username mainfolder. example: sudo chown -R cosmoscraft /craftbukkit.
and then stop server and start it again using user set above (without sudo). This helped me with all permission problems and it should give craftbukkit permissions to operate with all files without limitations.

Thank you, that solved both of my problems :)
I have one more though - I'm testing this dayandnight lighting map, and it works, but actual time in-game is 2 hours less than time that dynmap shows on web (so dynmap switches from day to light and back 2 hours later). Any way to change that?
And also, I now have both my surface day and surface night map rendered and when I use this dayandnight, I noticed it renders the map all over again, that seems silly. Can I make it use the data from my already rendered maps and then just let it switch between these two, instead of having to render two extra maps everytime someone makes changes?

Do you have a chat radius set for essentials? Thats about the only thing you can configure and using 0 i havent had this issue with EssentialsChat.
Did you run a fullrender after changing your template settings? /dynmap fullrender worldname
Went back and tested chat radius and that does seem to block chat displaying on the web on any setting other than 0, but that shouldnt disable the /dynmap sendtoweb command...

My settings are same that you posted. I tried unloading EssentialsChat using "plugman unload" and it magically started working fine, with chat balloons and all, so I guess it is interfering :)
Here is a list of plug-ins I use: 17:23:39 [INFO] [PlugMan] Plugins: dynmap, Dynmap-WorldGuard, Essentials, EssentialsChat, EssentialsProtect, EssentialsSpawn, GroupManager,P ermissions, PlugMan, VoxelSniper, VoxelUpdate, WorldBorder, WorldEdit, WorldGuard, xAuth
I'm new to both Minecraft server administration and to all these plugins, but I spent nearly 3 days installing them one by one, configurating and learning what they can do. So far I managed to make everything work except for this (unless I disable EssentialsChat) so if you need any additional info, I will be happy to help.
I'm actually also having another problem with dynmap right now - I changed the background color of my normal maps (using templates/normal-hires.txt). Background color is alright, but it has some weird grey artifacts around (see screen). I tried reloading the server and restarting Chrome and trying on my laptop too. Always same. Also when I change it to different color, those borders grey boxes are still present. Any idea? Thank you for you help and time!

EssentialsChat shouldn't interfere. Is it possible you have the chat components disabled?

Thank you. I'm using EssentialsChat. Is there any way to configure it so I don't have to completely disable it to make in-game messages show in web chat?
EDIT: Just tested your command, it doesn't work either : / ( I was using owner group, which have * permissions. ) Nothing happens in either the client or a web chat after I confirm my command (screen bellow) using enter. Any ideas?![Screenshot]()

Posted Aug 28, 2012Hey guys, everything was working fine until I updated to 1.3.2. Now to view the map you have to login, you run /dynmap webregister in-game and it says it's not enabled. I check the config file and it says it isn't enabled. What's going on? Is this just a 1.3.2 issue?

Posted Aug 28, 2012the only thing that would make this better would be 3ds web browser support "hint" "hint". Kind of off topic, but what if you could send commands to your server with your 3ds :D

/dynmap sendtoweb message
That'll post a message to the web only. If your not seeing in-game messages on the web you may be using some other plugin that cancels the chat event, like if your using herochat you need dynmap-herochat

Posted Aug 28, 2012Good evening,
I have DynMap all set up, it renders, shows people online and all and whenever someone posts a message using dynmap web chat I see it in-game. So far so good. So I told my friend "hey mate, look at my new map" and he was like "oh, that looks great"... and then.. I could not reply from in-game back to webchat.
Can anyone help me how to post message from a game into a webchat, or ideally - whenever I write something in-game that is not a command, it will send to dynmap web chat.
Thank you!

Posted Aug 27, 2012Hello there i'm having a big issue since 1.3.1 came out.
So from version 0.60 to v0.70.3-1298 I've had this issue that when the Dynmap loads it says that it's an outdated version, even if it's the latest.
Here is the java error : Error occurred while enabling dynmap v0.70.3-1298 (Is it up to date?) java.lang.ClassCastException: org.dynmap.hdmap.IsoHDPerspective cannot be cast to org.dynmap.MapType at org.dynmap.DynmapWorld.loadConfiguration(DynmapWorld.java:581) at org.dynmap.MapManager.activateWorld(MapManager.java:863) at org.dynmap.DynmapCore.processWorldLoad(DynmapCore.java:1348) at org.dynmap.bukkit.DynmapPlugin.onEnable(DynmapPlugin.java:627) at org.bukkit.plugin.java.JavaPlugin.setEnabled(JavaPlugin.java:217) at org.bukkit.plugin.java.JavaPluginLoader.enablePlugin(JavaPluginLoader.java:365) at org.bukkit.plugin.SimplePluginManager.enablePlugin(SimplePluginManager.java:381) at org.bukkit.craftbukkit.CraftServer.loadPlugin(CraftServer.java:265) at org.bukkit.craftbukkit.CraftServer.enablePlugins(CraftServer.java:247) at net.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer.i(MinecraftServer.java:296) at net.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer.d(MinecraftServer.java:275) at net.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer.a(MinecraftServer.java:225) at net.minecraft.server.DedicatedServer.init(DedicatedServer.java:140) at net.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer.run(MinecraftServer.java:378) at net.minecraft.server.ThreadServerApplication.run(SourceFile:539)
