How it works:

Install Vault
Install the Plugin. (Drop the coloredtablist.jar file into your /plugins folder)
Choose a Permissions Node named by the color.
Example: 'coloredtablist.blue' stands for blue :)
OR set 'UserPermissions' to false in the config and choose a color-code !scroll down!
Give a User (or a Group) the specifc Permissions Node.
OR give a Group the specific Color Code in the Config
Now when the User joins he automatically gets colored in the Playerlist (press Tab).

Commands:

You can use /ctl instead of /coloredtablist

/coloredtablist help = Shows a help Page with available Commands.
/coloredtablist reload = Reloads Config and Playerlist
/coloredtablist colors = View List of Color-Codes.
/coloredtablist nick <nickname> = Changes your Name in the Tablist until you reconnect or the Server reloads.

Config Commands:

/coloredtablist set usepermissions <true/false>
/coloredtablist set usechatnames <true/false>
/coloredtablist set prefix<1> <colors>
/coloredtablist set groups <group> <prefix/suffix> <value>

Configuration:

Version: 2.1.0

#Whether or not Permissions should be used instead of Groups:
UsePermissions: true

#Whether or not Displaynames should be used 
UseChatNames: false

#If it should update a player name every 15 seconds
UpdateEvery15Seconds: true

#Write the Groups in, like here. Use "" as Prefix to dont have one. You can use Colors in Prefix using & so &4 would be red.
Groups:
    Member:
           prefix: '&e'
           suffix: '[M]'
    Admin: 
           prefix: '&a'
           suffix: '[A]'
#Set text for coloredtablist.prefix1 here:

#Set text for coloredtablist.prefix2 here:

Color Codes:

Use them in Config with "&" instead of "#" and as Fullname in Permissions

Known Bugs:

Max 14 Characters are shown in the Tablist, longer Names are shortened to 14 (Otherwise it would show an Error because 16 Characters is max. (and we are using Colors so its 16 -2 = 14 O.o)

need more informations any errors in server log? send me your permissions file maybe I can find something wrong in there :)

I think I found the problem its because the new prefix permissions are granted by default I changed that in 1.1 (granting permissions by default is default O.o I mean i didnt set it to that..)

@mcheaven : Nope, used permission mode. Admins also don't have any * permissions. Sorry to hear about the client side problem. I was hoping minecraft would allow for a different chat nick and display nick somehow. :-/

just installed this plugin and gave my groups the permission nodes but its only showing the colors for a few players in the tablist.

"added all prefixes to the admin ranks, even without them having the permissions added for them. " seems like thats a fault in your configuration are you using the group-mode? (UsePermissions set to false?) or did you set '*' for your admin group?

"disabled the tab nick completion in the chat. " this bug is already reportet and I cant do anything against it as its client side. its because the color is in front of the name..

idkBOSSadminmode is already assigned as a player list name for someone. seems like you are giving every permission, so the plugin sets every prefix before the name and the rest of the name gets shortened and because other players are having every permission too, they would have the same name in the playerlist and bukkit throws an error. you are giving them more than one prefix permission? ( I guess you are using '*' from permissionsEx) negate the prefix nodes, you dont want.

When using "/coloredtablist" i get:

Tried this plugin, but had two side effects I didn't like:

added all prefixes to the admin ranks, even without them having the permissions added for them.
disabled the tab nick completion in the chat.

These two problems make this plugin, sadly, unsuitable for my server. :-/ I'd be more than happy to try this plugin again if these problems could be fixed.

Thanks for the nice updates. Now i can use both methods to define my group's colours :-)

ps: I was messing around with the config and tried if it was possible to leave out Prefix: [A]

It then started to complain about missing prefixes, so i entered: prefix: ''
But that didn't work (it still complained prefixes were missing).

Until i wrote Prefix. I didn't expect it to be case-sensitive :-)

sry, but there are many chat plugins. wouldnt really make sense when I add this feature to this Plugin.

Any chance you can get this to work for chat as well? I have a player with 15 characters in his name and the plugin I use for colored chat crashes when he plays.

look at the config above, you can add prefixes already. I know that it doesnt display the name to the end if its to long, the plugin shortens the name because only 16 characters can be shown maximal and one color takes 2 characters ;)

Pls add a feature to change the prefix and add longer names beacuse if it's too long don't display the name's end.
