how-tos/How to build a CS building

We have set up a CityScape schematic convention so that all schematics can be easily recognized and placed in your server. Allow us to explain.

There are two blocks that can never be placed by an NPC, because these blocks are replaced with certain other blocks in the real world. These blocks are:

  • Bedrock
  • Clay Block

Bedrock will leave most main natural blocks alone (i.e. stone, dirt, sand, sandstone, grass, etc). Additionally, any bedrock that has air above it will be replaced with the biome default (i.e. sand for deserts and beaches, and grass for everything else). These replacements allow ground level to look nice, while everything underneath the ground can stay mostly the same.

Clay Blocks will be ignored entirely. This allows us to "transition" between the property and the natural terrain. The one exception being that if a transition block is considered "ground level", and it isn't a biome default, then it will be replaced.

In this image you can see bedrock depicted as the gray blocks, and the clay depicted as the beige blocks. Here are the requirements of a CS Schematic:
  1. A schematic can be any length, width, or height
  2. The schematic MUST be bordered by clay.
  3. The clay border MUST be 5 blocks wide on each side.
  4. The clay border MUST "step" up 5 blocks, and MUST step down 5 blocks (including ground level)
  5. You may make the schematic as deep as you like. Simply add more bedrock layers bordered by a single clay on each side.
  6. We reccomend selecting at least 5 blocks above any structures, or at least 8 blocks above the clay when copying and saving.
  7. The schematic MUST be saved as an MCE file type by using WorldEdit; /schem save mce [name]
