Description
This plugin is intended to efficiently provide a border for each of your worlds, which only people granted special bypass access are allowed beyond. These borders can be round/elliptic or square/rectangular. As the plugin has been written with performance as the most important goal, it should have no performance impact on your server. Additional world trimming and filling commands are available as well.
Older plugins which originally inspired the creation of this one: rBorder and BorderGuard.
Features
- You can set up a separate border for each world, but only one border per world.
- You can have either round/elliptic or square/rectangular borders. Square/rectangular borders are slightly higher performance, round/elliptic borders make for nicer display maps. Different worlds can have different border shapes if you so choose.
- Configuration and border setup is done completely using commands in-game or through the server console. No need to ever edit the config file directly.
- Support for all permission plugins which interface with Bukkit's built-in "superperms" permission system.
- You can fully generate (fill) your world all the way to the border, filling in any missing chunks, including a configurable buffer zone just outside your border.
- You can trim off any world chunks beyond the border, getting rid of extraneous parts, with a configurable buffer zone left just outside your border.
- You can use a bypass command to allow specific players to go beyond all borders.
- Borders can be automatically displayed in DynMap if you use that plugin.
- All plugin data is automatically saved whenever any borders or settings are changed.
- If a player crosses a border while in a vehicle, the momentum of the vehicle is stopped and it is moved back inside the border with the player.
- When a player is moved back inside a border, they will be moved to a safe vertical location if needed.
- Borders for specific worlds can be set to wrap around instead of just knocking back players who cross the border, instead sending them to the opposite edge of the border.

Of special interest are the Fill command and the Trim command features:

Borders are also displayed automatically by default in DynMap if you have it:

Posted Nov 29, 2014I tried to use this to generate chunks on my overworld (I logged into my server and did the /wb fill command in the overworld) but it is just generating chunks in the nether.

Set it to a radius of 4000, specifying the X/Z coordinates of the center. Or use the setcorners command and specify the X/Z coordinates of the corners, in case you want to do it that way.

Last I saw, it looked like they'd gotten at least a second DMCA notice from somebody else. Either way, their GitHub repository is still down.
We'll see, as I said I'll reconsider if it makes a comeback and doesn't get taken back down for a while.

Spigot 1.8 will overcome the legal issues, as the copyrighted part of code has been rewritten.

Doubtful, but we'll see. Since Spigot uses Bukkit, the whole copyright / DMCA mess is hanging over it too. I'm not too keen to spend much time updating a plugin for a platform with such an uncertain future. If somehow it manages to come through and stick around for a while, I may reconsider.
As stated several times though, I'll be considering porting some features of WorldBorder to a new plugin for Sponge when a functional release comes out.

Porting? Spigot is a fork of CraftBukkit so it still has the same Bukkit API. This means that all plugins for CraftBukkit also works on Spigot.

If the Fill process is actually finished and tells you that it is 100% complete, then it is indeed 100% complete. Whatever you're using to judge it as incomplete (a map plugin such as DynMap, perhaps?) is just not showing everything. Either wait for your map plugin to finish updating the map, or force it to do a fullrender. If you're still not seeing everything, fully empty your browser cache. If you somehow still have problems, well, you see what I'm getting at; you'll need to find the solution with whatever is not showing the full map, it's not a problem with WorldBorder.

Posted Nov 10, 2014@Brettflan, this is a pretty amazing plugin save for one tiny issue that I hope you can help me with. I'm trying to run it on my server and I've run fill in so many different variations based on your command list such as various lower chunk processing speeds and the like but it still fails to fully fill the border I have set, which is at 10,000. It's reached the border with no problem and even did the 208 chunk padding for most of the border but fails for the rest, even though it says 100% complete using the fill command. Am I doing something wrong or missing something important?

With Bukkit now defunct, I don't plan to release any further updates for this plugin. I might be porting some functionality to a plugin for Spigot when/if it has a working build available.

Posted Nov 8, 2014Hey @Brettflan thanks for sticking with this plugin <3
Could you possibly add a feature to warn players when they are getting near the world border? Also, the option to NOT have wb bypass persist through relogging would be good since occasionally people forget to disable it when they should.
Thanks again.

There are only two instances where WorldBorder loads any chunks. The main instance is during the Fill process. Are you restarting your server with a Fill running? If so and you want to cancel it, run "/wb fill cancel".
The other instance this plugin will load a chunk is when a player who is online and outside the border is being moved back inside the border, and the chunk inside the border which they're being moved to isn't already loaded. Very specific and uncommon circumstances there. This obviously isn't the case for you and wouldn't cause anything like what you're seeing anyway, so that only leaves the Fill process.
If you don't have a Fill running, it's not WorldBorder. Feel free to post your full server startup log to shed some light on what's really going on.

Posted Nov 5, 2014I'm using latest WB 1.8.1 and for some reason WB is forcing all my chunks to load on server startup/restarts.
It's causing over 200k entities to load and hangs up my server for about 5 min until the chunks and entities unload.
I tested by removing worldborder.jar and and this does not happen when WB is not loaded.
