VoxieChan:
VoxieChan allows video playback inside the game by recreating the images from the video with the blocks in game, using the blocks as pixels. This means you can stream a video from the server to the client without them needing a client mod. Create screens throughout your worlds and then tune them in to a channel to display videos on them.

Yayifications the Alpha version is out in the wild :D Grab it Here
Let me know hows its working (or not :( ) out for you.
In Action:
Skip to 0:54 to see the video on the map or 1:40 to see it on a screen of blocks.
Know Issues
- Some videos can cause the JVM to crash when Xuggle trys to play them, so just be cautious ( I eliminated the crashing as much as I could, fairly rare now :) ).
Have Fun
Remember the main purpose of this plugin is for fun, I don't expect it to be run on a serious server because it can be quite intensive. But with that said, the .gif play back has little impact on a server and is ideal for animated signs to add charm to your server ;)

Maybe, the Xuggle library that I'm using can play flv fine. I'd just have to work out the link to the .flv from the video url. I might do it in a later version but for now I just want to get this out there :)

About the lag and bandwidth concerns, this plugin is manly just for fun and I don't expect it to be run on a serious Minecraft server because of this.
However you can configure the plugin in many ways to reduce the load on the server. For example, you can set the rate that a screen updates at thus easing the load on the server.
As for bandwidth that can be quite heavy because of all of the block changes and can't really be helped. But it does depend on the number of screens, the size of the screens and that rate they are set to refresh at. So you might be able to tweak these to get it down to an acceptable level :)
Oh also the most practical use for this could be for an animated in game server logo / message. The best way to do this would be to use the gif support as it doesn't have the overhead of decoding a video and is still animated. Pixel out your animation, save as a gif, make a screen the same size as the gif and profit :D .
