VNetherGenerator
Download - Source (Github)
One day, I figured out that the nether looks very drab, and could use something to make it more appetizing to people to live in, and explore, rather than just to go and search for strongholds and grind Xp. That's where this idea fleshed out from.
VNetherGenerator
This is a nether generator that does a few things differently than minecraft's normal one:
- It has the ability to spawn ores
- Has ruins instead of strongholds, and ruins are more common and random, not just a pasted togther structure.
- Ability to spawn random items in chests in ruins
- Ability for blaze spawners to rarely spawn ontop of the ruins.
- Mushroom forests in the nether! :D
- Spawns patches of netherwart.
- More to come as I get suggestions.
Configuration
Most of the configuration is explained in the config.yml file.
Your probably going to want to create it by copying the text on the 'Configuration page' into a file in the plugins/VNether folder before use, so you can configure the variables to your liking.
Permissions
Currently there are no permissions for this plugin.
Other interesting points
This plugin mainly came from the fact of two things.
- I didn't like the nether having a roof, it felt too closed in
- I didn't like how the nether was so jagged, it looked kind of.. ugly?
As I was making this, it turned into more than just a ordinary nether generator. I added a new structure type for ruins, mushroom trees in the nether, netherwart patches, and ORES! (Note all of these can be turned off if you don't want them :D)
Setup
- Download the jar file
- Place it in your plugins folder
- Create a folder in plugins called 'VNether'
- Copy the config file from the configuration file into a text file, edit the values to your liking, and save it as config.yml in the folder you just created.
- Delete previous nether if there is one
- Append the following onto the end of your bukkit.yml:
worlds: (WORLDNAME)_nether: generator: VNether
Where worldname is the name of the world. Then start up your server and it should generate.
That's all

Posted Apr 13, 2014Hey, can you make it so that when you make a netherportal, it doesn't look at the Y coordinate so you can make a portal in skyblock?

Posted Sep 1, 2013I would like to have maybe a lava stronghold, you can find one in the middle of a lava pool in the nether. They would be guarded by zombie pigmen, magma cubes, wither skeletons and etc. The deeper you went into the stronghold, the harder the mobs got.

Posted Aug 11, 2013This still works in 1.6.2. I used Multiverse to generate the world. I do wish there was an option for specifying ore rarity, though.

Posted Oct 27, 20121) how to add diamonds and other ores, like lapiz and emeralds?
2) how to make the world 256 high?
3) hot to avoid flat buildable roof (with ruins on it?) maybe 256 height would solve it? most players just make vaste villas on the top of nether. that's not fair.
4) how to make the terrain more hmmm volatile? more expressive, more diverse? nether mountains, nether valleys, nether lakes, etc?
5) how to generate nether with no flowing lava? in laggs a lot
6) do blazes spawn in ruins without spawners? usage of spawners leads to exp-grinding machines.
7) great plugin, keep up the good work. please, post the donation button.

Posted Oct 4, 2012Very cool, I definitely like this better than the standard nether generation. However, would it be possible to make the fortresses spawn like normal if the ruins are disabled? Because, no offense, the ruins look like nether bricks were randomly spawned within a select volume. This makes it much more difficult, time consuming, and just plain annoying to try and mine the bricks.

Posted Sep 18, 2012there should be a height restriction for the strongholds, as they spawn on the flat top of the nether, which also should be fixed.

Posted Sep 18, 2012I love it!
but got one suggestion, i love all the stuff in here, mushrooms, ores, strongholds etc, but is there a way to keep the 'old' nether generation, like the original world but with added ores and mushrooms, i dont like the round world, would rather have more flat pieces like the original nether

A. it does generate netherwarts B. I can't do much about the top. It's either that or put a roof on it.
