Plugin: TrainCarts - Linked Minecarts, sign-redstone systems, easy to use and realistic
Version: v1.73.0
Build: 1.7.2 R0.1/R0.2
Incompatible with: RailCraft
Description
This plugin looks for suitable Minecarts and links them together if possible. When two Minecarts are being "linked", the Minecarts will act as one single moving train.
Once carts are successfully linked, an effect is played and their velocity is shared in combination with an individual factor for each Minecart, which is used to remain a steady gap between carts. This gap is adjustable, the force at which this happens as well.
End result: a train! You can move it, make a roller-coaster out of it, split it in half, watch trains collide, whatever you want to do with trains. :)
As for 1.21, it is also possible to safely exit your train by setting an exit offset with a (sideways) push factor for the train. This feature is disabled by default. (only affects dropped items). If you want to display arrival times on signs (see redstone circuit part) you need SignLink, see the downloads on the bottom of the page.
As for 1.35 you can set train properties to make 'special' trains, or to 'finalize' a train

Links
For configuration, permissions and how-to's, see the Wikipedia page (it is rather long):
Note that I would prefer having comments, bug reports and others in the main Bukkit page, since I visit that site the most. :)
Addons
Special Addons for TrainCarts
Features
- Link minecarts using collision: no commands needed to make a train
- Move trains as easily as you would with single Minecarts
- Store trains to file for persistence during reloads and server restarts
- Use sign-redstone circuits for subway systems, complete railroads and much more
- Station to gracefully stop and launch trains
- Spawn
- Teleport
- Property setters
- Tag systems to switch certain tracks based on tags on the train
- Destination systems to make your train travel to far-away lands all on it's own
- Supports Minecart Mania's features
- Infinite minecart speeds are possible
- Push-away: Push mobs, players and items away from your trains to keep them running
- Everything is configurable, if something proves not to be, I will make it that way
FAQ
When players are near, trains reach their destinations. With no one near, they don't. What do I do?
By default trains do not keep chunks loaded, and they will unload once they move into unloaded chunks. To make trains keep the chunk area (and themselves) around them loaded, set the 'keepchunksloaded' property to True. This can be done using the /train keepchunksloaded true command, using a property sign or by changing it to true in the DefaultTrainProperties.yml file. For more information about train properties, see here.
Why not boats?!?!
Incompatibilities
If you have another plugin that performs similar Minecart replacement techniques, it is likely that TrainCarts will not function or function poorly. For the 'chunk persistence' part of this plugin, other plugins that unload chunks without firing events result in this feature failing. Minebackup is known for having this problem.
Metrics
This plugin sends server count statistics to MCStats.org. You can (globally) opt out in the PluginMetrics/config.yml file.

Posted Jan 17, 2013Can you please build a newest build against 1.4.6 R0.3
Since you built against 1.4.7 we have to wait for the rest of our NMS based plugins to get updated before we can use Traincarts again.

That's not correct for me. Here's the conditions where I'm unable to break a Minecart that I placed:
With all of these I'm still unable to break a minecart that I placed. But I believe I mentioned this in my first post. If your vanilla behavior is supposed to work like this, it isn't working with my mentioned scenario.

Posted Jan 16, 2013In one or more of the recent versions of Traincarts, the default options no longer let us destroy a minecart. We have noticed that a placement node for minecarts has been created and works, but a node for hitting the cart and making it break doesn't seem to exist.
We've checked the permissions, and even made them all default and none of them seem to let the player break the cart, even when "everyone" or that specific user is the owner of the cart.
However, being opped does seem to allow for breaking the cart. We've checked a bit of the source code and tried a few different things but none of these has allowed us to turn on manual breaking of carts by default.
Any idea if this is a bug, or if we are just missing something in the plugin?
Using Traincarts 1.72.3, and bkcommonlib 1.42 on CB 1.4.6 R0.3

Posted Jan 16, 2013Would there be any chance of possibly getting someone who knows this plugin well to come onto my server and help me. I'm pretty sure I'm doing everything right according to the wiki but I'm having very annoying issues with the path finding gear (eg. tracks don't switch, etc.). I have tried the reroute command but still the same thing happens. I'm also having issues getting the trains to wait using a waiter sign on merging tracks. I am also running the latest version of bukkit and this plugin.
My rail network is comprised of 4 lines which merge into two lines in a subway before breaking back out to 4 separate platforms in a central station that comes off the subway.
But yeah, if anyone could spend half an hour of their time helping me out, that would be very much appreciated.

Posted Jan 14, 2013Can I post here my requests? If yes, there are:
- in locomotive on maneuvers (rmb on minecart with furnace) or train ride (using coal) all works fine. But why there's no brakes? I request 2 types: normal (shift) or sudden (space) - speed modifiers will be configurable in config.yml and braking distance will be addicted to "weight" of train. But one thing: in sudden braking there's chance to break train
- to add next realistic thing - more drama by train collision head-by-head - carts will break as entities, storage minecarts will drop what they contain. Drivers will die if resultant speed is 1.5 and plugin broadcasts "Player was died in train accident" or if player were hit by train plugin broadcasts "Player was hit by train" and player dies (of course train will have configured speed)
- limit of carts in one train in config.yml and speed modifier for each cart
- single minecart will be ignored (small hook for craftbook vehicles please :])
- there is option to connect minecarts. There's chance for disconnect them?
Cheers from Poland :)
EDIT:
- Cows, pigs, and other mobs will die too when hit by train :P

Posted Jan 12, 2013Oh, and by the way, the waiter signs did not work. My trains keep joining, so I guess that may be a consequence of "keepchunksloaded" not working as intended.

Posted Jan 11, 2013So, when a normal user puts a minecart (after I looked around and the only info about permissions was on the 7th comments page), now no one can destroy that minecart.
He can't, and I can't too - even when opped.
I checked the source code and indeed there was no specific destroy traincart option.
So, whenever an user creates one and doesn't needs it anymore, am I going to need to destroy ALL carts in the server?
[edit]
Managed to discover that they can't be broken unless they are on rails.
