Storm
Ever bored with the vanilla weather? Storm is a plugin that adds a whole new range of weather mechanics to Bukkit servers.

Features
- Acid Rain: Green rain, which damages players and animals, as well as deteriorates blocks. Turn a 'grey day' into a 'radioactive-green' day!
- Blizzards: Makes snow a real threat! Players and entities caught outside during a blizzard will experience snow acting as slow sand, limited visibility, and cold damage, so long as they are not inside or near a heating block.
- Thunder Storms: If supercharged creepers were not already a threat, how will your players react to hordes of zombie pigmen? Thunder storms are massive discharges of lightning over a short period of time, in which players will be hard-pressed to survive.
- Meteors: Fireballs trailed by explosions, burrowing in the ground, and flattening all entities in their path. Players who survive, however, can delight themselves with the ores the meteor leaves behind.
- Wildfires: We can all safely say vanilla fires are boring. To spice up the game, we've added wildfires; a naturally occurring event in which entire forests will be devoured by fire with pre-1.6B physics.
- Earthquakes: With massive rifts opening up, screens shaking, and blocks flying about, Storm earthquakes will be an experience for your players to remember. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
- Volcanoes: Large mounds of lava spurting out of the ground, explosions and flying lava bombs. Fun, fun, fun. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
Getting started with Storm
If you are a visual learner, this video by WoopaGaming is for you! Some information is outdated, but the gist remains the same.
You can gain some more in-depth information from this "Curse Minecraft Spotlight" on Storm, as it presents most of the features of Storm in a nice format. Thanks to Xenius01 of Curse for this one!
Storm has a command for all its weather types:
| Command | Usage | Permission | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| /acidrain | /<command> [world] | storm.acidrain.command | Starts acid rain in specified world. |
| /blizzard | /<command> [world] | storm.blizzard.command | Starts a blizzard in specified world. |
| /thunderstorm | /<command> [world] | storm.thunderstorm.command | Starts a thunder storm in specified world. |
| /wildfire | /<command> [world] | storm.wildfire.command | Starts a wildfire where player is looking at. |
| /meteor | /<command> [world] | storm.meteor.command | Spawns a meteor and targets the block the player is looking at. |
| /volcano | /<command> [world] | storm.volcano.command | Spawns a volcano at the targeted block. |
| /earthquake | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a earthquake at the targeted block. |
| /cracks | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a crevice at the targeted block. |
And immunity permissions from their associated weathers:
| Immunity | Permission | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Acid Rain Damage | storm.acidrain.immune | Prevents damage from acid rain. |
| Blizzard Damage | storm.blizzard.immune | Prevents damage from blizzards. |
| Lightning Attraction | storm.lightning.immune | Prevents extra damage from lightning & lightning attraction. |
| Meteor Damage | storm.meteor.immune | Prevents damage from meteor shockwaves. |
If Storm doesn't load, first, make sure that you are running a compatible build of Storm. For example, 0.1.2 will run only on Bukkit 1.4.6, while 0.1.2 R1 will only run on 1.4.7. You can see the supported versions in the Files menu. If that doesn't work or Storm throws exceptions, leave a ticket.
When asking for support...
...please answer the following questions: they help us get back to you quicker and consequently address any issues faster.
- What Storm version are you running? Be specific.
- What server implementation are you running (usually CraftBukkit)?
- What Minecraft version are you running?
- What is the issue you are experiencing?
- Provide a traceback, if the issue is a crash and a log is available.

Posted Nov 7, 2012Are any of these naturally occurring? Or do all of these special events have to be triggered manually?

Well, I did warn that volcanoes would be spawned if you right click with a bone :)
As for the second one... very intriguing. Do you have meteors enabled for the Nether world? Could you perhaps pastie your configuration for that world? If it was a perfect sphere, then I am afraid that WAS a meteor. As for being filled solid, that is interesting. They should be full of ores, not planks. And was there any destruction around the meteor? Was the region the meteor landed protected?

Posted Nov 7, 2012Ok... aside from the fact that I accidentally started a volcano at the ground floor of my central tower and engulfed half my bukkit server village in lava... I love the changes and configurations you've made to Storm. So with backup world re-loaded, and village saved, I came across something curious in the Nether. A large (12-15 block high) sphere of obsidian. Inside? Oak wood planks. Filled solid. Is this a "meteor"? that has somehow landed on top of the lava bed in the nether? I've never seen this before and haven't found anything about it online either. -T

I've added a configurable list of burnable blocks for the next version :)
@Zilacon
Lightning spawns fire by default: hence, not making it spawn fire would add quite a bit of load on the server. Doesn't really matter in most cases anyway: any fire started nearly always gets put out by rain.
@Confuzzled77
VERY light on CPU. There isn't a distinguishable difference between when all weathers are running and normal gameplay.
They SHOULDN'T go through protections, but I've had to add plugin specific checks for WorldGuard and Residence. I might have to do the same for CoreProtect, depending on whether it protects itself.

How heavy of a load is this on a server? RAM?CPU?
Will any of these storms go through protections? Specifically CoreProtect?

Awsome I had an idea to make wildfires a little more scary. They can spread via grass as well turning it into dirt.

Yes, but at the moment we are focusing more on volcanoes. After those are out of the way, earthquakes, and then floods.

Unfortunately, no. Floods are quite complex, and so are volcanoes (which we want to release BEFORE 1.1.2).
@nonox97
Its pretty much done; will be released as part of 1.1.1 :-)

Sorry for the late reply; school eats up time like a horse.
If you put acid rain to false, acid rain will not even start. You can set the block transformations to nothing however, and that will keep blocks from being deteriorated.
However, the default values for the acid rain are not griefing: simply turns grass to dirt, cobble to stone etc. Additionally, it only deteriorates 15x15 blocks in a chunk, rather than the full 16x16. This means that grass will always exist to regrow blocks.
Sometime in the future the command engine will be redone, and support deterioration values as part of the command syntax.

Posted Oct 29, 20120.1.0 is nearly here, and we have some amazing new things! There have been complications, however, so we cannot ensure that it will be out on schedule. We hope you understand.
That said, we think the next few images pretty much sum up what we've been working on.
As always, thanks for your patience!

Posted Oct 27, 2012I have a question: if I put in the configuration "acid rain: false," then I'm on the server, I do / Acidrain, it makes me it starts but is that it transforms the blocks? Infact if I ask this question is because there are people who are on my server admin and be they can do to see it done or because I made especially for confidence. Thank you. (I look forward version v0.12 :))
