Storm
Ever bored with the vanilla weather? Storm is a plugin that adds a whole new range of weather mechanics to Bukkit servers.

Features
- Acid Rain: Green rain, which damages players and animals, as well as deteriorates blocks. Turn a 'grey day' into a 'radioactive-green' day!
- Blizzards: Makes snow a real threat! Players and entities caught outside during a blizzard will experience snow acting as slow sand, limited visibility, and cold damage, so long as they are not inside or near a heating block.
- Thunder Storms: If supercharged creepers were not already a threat, how will your players react to hordes of zombie pigmen? Thunder storms are massive discharges of lightning over a short period of time, in which players will be hard-pressed to survive.
- Meteors: Fireballs trailed by explosions, burrowing in the ground, and flattening all entities in their path. Players who survive, however, can delight themselves with the ores the meteor leaves behind.
- Wildfires: We can all safely say vanilla fires are boring. To spice up the game, we've added wildfires; a naturally occurring event in which entire forests will be devoured by fire with pre-1.6B physics.
- Earthquakes: With massive rifts opening up, screens shaking, and blocks flying about, Storm earthquakes will be an experience for your players to remember. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
- Volcanoes: Large mounds of lava spurting out of the ground, explosions and flying lava bombs. Fun, fun, fun. Seems to be bugging in Version2.3
Getting started with Storm
If you are a visual learner, this video by WoopaGaming is for you! Some information is outdated, but the gist remains the same.
You can gain some more in-depth information from this "Curse Minecraft Spotlight" on Storm, as it presents most of the features of Storm in a nice format. Thanks to Xenius01 of Curse for this one!
Storm has a command for all its weather types:
| Command | Usage | Permission | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| /acidrain | /<command> [world] | storm.acidrain.command | Starts acid rain in specified world. |
| /blizzard | /<command> [world] | storm.blizzard.command | Starts a blizzard in specified world. |
| /thunderstorm | /<command> [world] | storm.thunderstorm.command | Starts a thunder storm in specified world. |
| /wildfire | /<command> [world] | storm.wildfire.command | Starts a wildfire where player is looking at. |
| /meteor | /<command> [world] | storm.meteor.command | Spawns a meteor and targets the block the player is looking at. |
| /volcano | /<command> [world] | storm.volcano.command | Spawns a volcano at the targeted block. |
| /earthquake | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a earthquake at the targeted block. |
| /cracks | /<command> [world] | storm.earthquake.command | Spawns a crevice at the targeted block. |
And immunity permissions from their associated weathers:
| Immunity | Permission | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Acid Rain Damage | storm.acidrain.immune | Prevents damage from acid rain. |
| Blizzard Damage | storm.blizzard.immune | Prevents damage from blizzards. |
| Lightning Attraction | storm.lightning.immune | Prevents extra damage from lightning & lightning attraction. |
| Meteor Damage | storm.meteor.immune | Prevents damage from meteor shockwaves. |
If Storm doesn't load, first, make sure that you are running a compatible build of Storm. For example, 0.1.2 will run only on Bukkit 1.4.6, while 0.1.2 R1 will only run on 1.4.7. You can see the supported versions in the Files menu. If that doesn't work or Storm throws exceptions, leave a ticket.
When asking for support...
...please answer the following questions: they help us get back to you quicker and consequently address any issues faster.
- What Storm version are you running? Be specific.
- What server implementation are you running (usually CraftBukkit)?
- What Minecraft version are you running?
- What is the issue you are experiencing?
- Provide a traceback, if the issue is a crash and a log is available.

Posted Oct 16, 2012First of all, I love your plugin, so thank you!
My world just had it's first meteor strike. In fact, two struck at nearly the same time. Very cool. However, it changed the biome it struck in from plains to tiaga. Is that right? I'm none to happy about that. It's no big deal to change it back using worldedit, but it's a pain to clean up all the snow and ice where there was once grass, rivers, and trees. Was this a glitch, or is it programed to do this?

Random >:D Warnings will be added for either 0.1.0 or 0.1.1

Posted Oct 16, 2012Is there any warning before any of these events happen? Or is it all just random, was just wondering since a warning message would let everyone get inside before they get hurt.

Hmm, never thought that would cause any problem. Basically, it catches itself into a nearly infinite loop while it searches for:
1. A block not protected by WorldGuard & 2. A block in a forest biome & 3. A flammable block
Basically, it will fling itself into that. Never happened during testing because I like lush forests in my world, so it always found a block. I have added a maximum of 50 recursions for 0.0.9. At worst case, will hang the server for around 100ms, and not start the wildfire.
For now, however, disabling wildfires is the only surefire way to fix this.

Posted Oct 15, 2012Hello,
I'm running into this problem. http://paste.org/55608 It is totally locking up my server. It doesn't seem to be triggered by anything from my knowledge.

Thanks :) Nope :") I've activated the forums though, so I guess that could be a place.
@tdbruce34
Interesting about the RAM usage. I'd daresay that its not caused by Storm: I am running a 3.5GB server with Storm on, and it hasn't crashed.
As for the warnings. Yes. They are because of Storm. This is a strange error caused by MC trying to save the location of nonexistant meteors. After a meteor explodes, we remove it from the game, but MC still thinks its there. I've tried figuring out why it happens, but haven't gotten anywhere yet. Don't worry: that error is nothing more than an annoyance: it does not slow the server down, nor take up alot of memory. Its simply appears when a chunk holding a missaved meteor is loaded.

Posted Oct 13, 2012Another awesome release. The first thunderstorm on my server accumulated 26 kills before it ended. Do you have a spot where those of us using storm can post our information? I think it would be pretty cool to see just how many servers are using this.

Yes! It finaly worked... Plugin was conflicting with other one. Just 1 suggestion: Could you make meteors contain less ores? I think theres too much ores inside 1.

Then Storm did not load. If it isn't throwing errors on startup, I would doubt its even there in the first place, or that Bukkit is recognizing it.

Are there perhaps any errors in the console? If not, then I'd question if it was even loaded. The commands are /meteor, /wildfire, /acidrain, /blizzard, /thunderstorm. Although all will crash if the config files don't exist. Which they have to if the plugin loaded....

Ok it was just a world guard thing. But I have a protected spawn region, and meteors still cause damage.

Are you sure this isn't another plugin conflicting? Storm only deals with fires for wildfires. Thunderstorms WILL cause fires, but the rain will put them out imminently after. Maybe try the /ex command from WorldGuard/Edit? Possibly use it to disable fire spread in that world, and just leave the fires to go out?

What do you mean by "it doesn't work"? There are millions of ways that might make it not work: to help you, we need more details.

Posted Oct 6, 2012guys, could you make earthquakes to damage certain types of buildings? (e.g. boxes of cobblestone\dirt)
