Tutorial
So you want to play Splatoon
I tried to make this plugin as intuitive as possible. However, due to the complexity of the game itself, I fear that it can be rather difficult to understand how to use Slatoon Ultimate. Below is a (I hope) comprehensive tutorial on how to set up your own arenas!
Creating an arena
The first step in the process is creating an arena to play in. There are no limits to what your arena can look like. They can be built in any material, any shape, any size. The only thing that matters is including paintable surfaces. Paintable surfaces are blocks that can be covered with ink. These include wool, stained clay, and the stained glass family.
This is the minimum requirement for an arena. It has paintable surfaces. That's all you need. Anything else is extravagance.
However, I happen to like extravagance.
Setting up the arena
The next thing you need to do is set up spawns. They do not need to be marked, but I like to mark them with their respective team's color for the sake of visibility.
Whoops! I forgot the most important step: ACTUALLY CREATING THE ARENA! Using WorldEdit, select the minimum and maximum points of the arena. Make sure that the entire arena fits within the bounds of the selection. Once it's selected, type /splatarena new to define the arena. The command will tell you that an arena has been created, and will give you a number. REMEMBER IT! It will be important later!
Now you can actually set the team spawns! Use the command /splatspawn <team color> to set the spawnpoint for each of the four teams. You can set the spawn points anywhere, but they MUST be within the arena.
You also need to set the exit point for the arena. Thee exit point is where all players will teleport to when they leave the game, or the game ends. You set the exit point using the command /splatspawn exit <arena #>, where <arena #> is the number of the arena you created.
Setting up a lobby
The last important aspect of an arena is its lobby. The lobby can be anything. The only aspects that define a lobby are the presence of the arena's informational signs. These signs will display the arena's current status and allow players to join the game without using commands.
The first, and most important, sign you need to set up is the arena's main status sign. This sign will display information from the arena, anything from player counts to team scores. To designate a sign for use by the arena, you must simply target an existing sign and type /splatsign <arena #>.
After that's done, you can set up individual class signs. These signs, when clicked on, allow a player to join a match as a specific class, which is displayed on the sign. You create these signs by targeting an existing sign and typing /splatsign <arena #> <class>.
Congratulations! Your lobby is done!
Starting matches
Now that you have your arena, it's time to actually start a match! There are two ways to create a match: Via command, and by using the lobby signs.
The first way is by command. The command to create a match is /splatmatch create <arena #>.
Once this is done, you can join the match either by clicking the lobby signs or by using the command /joinsplat <arena #> [class] [team color]. [class] and [team color] are both optional arguments.
The second way to join a match is by clicking one of the lobby signs. Clicking the main status sign will put you on a random team, as a random class. Clicking one of the class-specific signs will put you on a random team as whatever class is listed on the sign.
Once at least two teams are in the arena, a one-minute countdown timer will start. If more than 60% of the players in the arena type /votestart, the match will start immediately. Additionally, an admin may type /splatmatch start <arena #> to immediately start the match regardless of player count or votes.
Playing the game
Now we've gotten to the best bit! Your arena is built and the match has just started. What do you do now? Easy! Just play! Depending on your class, left- or right-clicking with your tool will spread ink in different ways. Shooters spray a constant stream to quickly cover small areas. Chargers power up their bow and release a long stream, which paints a narrow trail as it goes. Rollers cover a large area under them when they move. Carriers use their ink vial to start an infection, which slowly spreads to the blocks around it. Each class has their own unique abilities.
All classes do share common abilities. Switching your hand to an empty slot will turn you into a squid. As a squid, you have increased speed, and can climb walls. This effect only lasts as long as you are on a block that has been painted your team's color. Additionally, when touching a block that is the color of an enemy team, you will slowly take damage until you get off.
That's it! I hope you enjoy this plugin, and have many a fun times playing with friends!
