Spells
Introduction
Spells is a plugin that adds magic spells to the game. It is the successor to a previous magic plugin developed by the same team. The goal of the plugin is to introduce a whole new style of play by adding new ways to fight, build, and more. This is achieved by allowing the player to cast a wide variety of spells with many uses. We want our plugin to feel like it is an integrated part of the game, not an addition. In order to accomplish this, we have added immersive features that go above and beyond the expectations for a normal server plugin.
Why Spells?
Spells can be customized and molded to your liking more easily than its competitors. Our plugin loads all of its spells from a folder that server owners can edit, allowing them to add and remove spells. This includes support for custom spells not made by our team. It is very easy to use Spells as a player. After crafting a staff via a custom crafting recipe, players are able to navigate a hierarchy of spells to find the type of spell that they need using only the mouse. This makes it efficient and easy to cast spells, and helps integrate spellcasting into the normal flow of gameplay. In order to balance the plugin, all spells have a material cost; the more powerful the spell, the more difficult it is to acquire the items required to cast it. Please note that in this beta stage of development, we are still trying to balance spell costs. Spells also features permissions support and a spell creation API.

We are working on a config file right now, which should be out in the next few days. That will allow you to enable permissions, along with a bunch of other stuff. I completely agree that we need more info on the spells and I hope we can get a page up soon either here on bukkitdev or on our wiki soon. We're also working on a guide for making custom spells!

Posted Aug 24, 2012I would love to see more info about this. From this page I have no idea what sort of spells are in the plugin, and no link to anywhere that tells me them.
Also permissions for this plugin are a must. I don't see any info on that either...

One thing I'd like to point out is that some of those are things we've been planning, we've been a bit too busy with real life to get them done ourselves :/

Thanks for that about rapidfire. I noticed that awhile ago, but I'm not sure how to fix it while keeping the "Rapidness" intact. I'll think about it, though.

Posted Nov 5, 2011I tried this Plugin out on a server i run for myself before suggesting it to the admin of the server i play on and i am impressed.
Strengths: I really like the unique crafting recipe. I also really like the setup of the spells, it is simple and easy to understand.
weakness( yes just one) While the set up was great the crafting was great the actual spells i felt were lacking, while they were cool i just couldn't see the usefulness on a real RPG server. while rapid fire was probably my favorite spell i started to realize while using it that the arrows shot so fast only the first and last arrow actually counted as a hit. I don't want to make one long hate mail naming off all of the faults in each spell, because that isn't the point i want to give across i was jsut giving an example. instead i will name off some suggestions...
(im thinking X amount should be configurable but a set amount is totally fine also obviously) Maybe:

School has been keeping us from doing too much work lately, hopefully we can get back to a really fast development cycle soon. As it is, new spells can be created with relative ease if you know java and are willing to recompile the plugin yourself. We have some code in progress to automatically load spells from an external folder, but that has issues of its own. Long story short: Nothing is happening right now, because we have a lot of real-life work. The project isn't dead, though! :D

The plugin is usable right now, just not finished. We do plan on implementing permissions support, but again, not there yet (once we feel ready to do, it can be added relatively simply). There are a bunch of spells, each with item requirements, which you can see if you try the plugin.

Posted Oct 12, 2011I will like to see this plugin when it is done. it seems interesting. i just wonder if your goin to add permissions? and what kind of spells are there. and will there be sertain things you need to do to get the spells?
