Spectate

What is spectate?
Spectate allows you to watch players from their point of view, simply by typing in /spectate (player). You will see exactly what they see, and they'll never know you were watching them.
You can also watch them from different angles. There's Third Person, Third Person Front (looking at their face), and Freeroam (you can walk freely around and watch them from any angle).
There's also "Scroll" mode and "Scan" mode. Scroll mode allows you to right and left click to change between players, and Scan mode will change the player you're spectating every few seconds (you can set how long until it switches to the next person).
There's also an API, which allows developers to take control of the entire plugin.
To see a full list of everything you can do with Spectate, head over to the Commands page.
Spectate has undergone a complete rewrite.
Please make sure your permissions are up to date, and please report any bugs on the tickets page.
Spectate 2.0 is here!
2.0 includes:
- A complete rewrite of the entire plugin from the ground up.
- Lots of bugs fixes!
- Spectate is now compatible with Multiverse Inventories.
- A fresh new API that lets developers control the ENTIRE plugin!
And some new features:
- A new spectate angle, Third Person Front mode! Now you can watch the player you're spectating while looking at their face. What more could you ask for?
- Another new spectate angle, Free Roam mode! Now you can walk around like a ghost while still viewing their inventory. Spooky!
- You can now see the gamemode and XP of the player you're spectating!
- If you were invisible before spectating, you will still be invisible when you stop spectating.
And many more features I forgot to write down!
So what are you waiting for? Download the plugin for the complete Spectating experience today!

Posted Oct 3, 2012Thaaaanks a lot Chipmunk ^_^
The update is a pleasure to use and works well !!! it's perfect ^_^
I just have a strange thing. I hope you could find out with this error, I don't know which plugin is wrong (maybe a plugin conflict though);
while spectating a player, he suddenly die while fighting mobs, but since he have still a lot of live, it's a strange death, moreover the death message in chat doesn't say what kind of death it was...
I'm a little worried because it's third time today that a player have a strange death while spectating ... v_v;;
thanks for all ;-)

Oh cool, I just wasn't really sure if that's what it was actually supposed to do or if there was another intended purpose. It says above that my inventory will be modified so I was thinking it could mean either it would stop me from picking up items or allow me to modify their inventory. Thanks =)

Well actually, I forgot to add that in to the /spectate inv command... I'll just do that right now. :P

Posted Sep 29, 2012When I do "/spectate inv off" it doesn't say anything and it doesn't seem to affect their inv, chests, etc. popping up. Is this not what it's supposed to do? I was hoping it was an option to stop things from popping up because it makes it really hard to type /spectate to stop spectating sometimes.

Posted Sep 27, 2012Needs a option to set a desired area as spectate only area, so when people are in the area they can use the command but when they leave, they can't.

Are you using 1.9.1? In 1.9 I accidentally made it so inventory is turned off by default. If it's still off by default in 1.9.1, you can try typing '/spectate inv on' to turn it back on

Posted Sep 25, 2012very very good and useful plugin !!
It's easy to check what players are doing, or just want to show me.
easy to check if player use xray by using xray and watching what they are looking for also.
I give a try to a newer plugin version, but it seems that we cannot see the player inventory anymore ... Is it a bug ? it's very useful to be able to see someone's inventory ... what about this feature in future ?
I rollback then to old version which still bugs by making players to move and falls.
Thanks to considerate that problem ^_^

I've noticed this in the console a few times, but I haven't found a way to reproduce it...
@RustyDagger
I'll see what I can do.

It's a new glitch from 1.3, and I haven't found a way around it yet. It also broke the fix I made for spectated players shooting arrows.

Posted Sep 1, 2012When spectating, an idle player moves around randomly, as if he's lagging really bad. I assume that is regular behavior, but the spectated player can hear movement sounds whilst he is standing still, indicating he is being spectated. It's quite easy for more experienced player to know when to behave.
Is there any way you can prevent this?

The new command is '/spectate off' if you're using the dev build. If you're not using the dev build, it's '/spectateoff'.
