Spectate

What is spectate?
Spectate allows you to watch players from their point of view, simply by typing in /spectate (player). You will see exactly what they see, and they'll never know you were watching them.
You can also watch them from different angles. There's Third Person, Third Person Front (looking at their face), and Freeroam (you can walk freely around and watch them from any angle).
There's also "Scroll" mode and "Scan" mode. Scroll mode allows you to right and left click to change between players, and Scan mode will change the player you're spectating every few seconds (you can set how long until it switches to the next person).
There's also an API, which allows developers to take control of the entire plugin.
To see a full list of everything you can do with Spectate, head over to the Commands page.
Spectate has undergone a complete rewrite.
Please make sure your permissions are up to date, and please report any bugs on the tickets page.
Spectate 2.0 is here!
2.0 includes:
- A complete rewrite of the entire plugin from the ground up.
- Lots of bugs fixes!
- Spectate is now compatible with Multiverse Inventories.
- A fresh new API that lets developers control the ENTIRE plugin!
And some new features:
- A new spectate angle, Third Person Front mode! Now you can watch the player you're spectating while looking at their face. What more could you ask for?
- Another new spectate angle, Free Roam mode! Now you can walk around like a ghost while still viewing their inventory. Spooky!
- You can now see the gamemode and XP of the player you're spectating!
- If you were invisible before spectating, you will still be invisible when you stop spectating.
And many more features I forgot to write down!
So what are you waiting for? Download the plugin for the complete Spectating experience today!

Posted Jun 19, 2012Seeing their inventories and chests is really cool, but it would be nice if there was a command to turn it off. I like to spectate people on my second monitor and if they open a GUI while my mouse is clicked out of the minecraft window it will revert back to my pause/menu screen.
Also, you should probably list the commands in your overview, took me a little while to find the /spectatemode command ;)

Sweet, I can't wait :) This might be really dumb but someday maybe even turn it into more of a bot if your using it like I would on a second pc. Where you could actually send console commands say you are like oh shit whats going there a pause command or a fast back on a console or another MC account with perm lol.
Like I said might sound dumb but as I see this plugin it should be called Kick Ass Security System Plugin :P

Posted Jun 18, 2012This plugin is amazing. I want to use it as security Camera on a separate PC. Any chance of doing spectate <secs> type command and have it just rotate through the players over and over?

Posted Jun 16, 2012Actually, I believe I fixed the server. I totally deleted everything about my bukkit (plugins, batch file, jars...) and re-downloaded a new one, and with no plugins currently installed, me and my friend can both get on fine now. I'm going to reinstall all of my plugins and try Spectate again. I will post the report (copy, paste) if it fails again. If it succeeds, I will edit this comment. I should be able to get back with the results later today or tomorrow. Thank you for you help.

I would find the report in the Minecraft files, not the Bukkit files, right?
EDIT: I'm bad at trying to say something the first time... Do I need to access a specific file, or reboot the server with Spectate installed again (to reproduce the issue) and copy/paste that report. I'm pretty sure Minecraft saves the reports to a file, but I'm failing to find it.

It's probably not a Spectate problem, but if you post the error I could help you.

Posted Jun 15, 2012I was playing on my server with a friend and tried to spectate the player, it worked for a little while but then Minecraft crashed, and it kept doing so every time I tried to get back on the server. I restarted Minecraft (obviously because of the crashes) and I restarted my server. I could get on fine but my friend could not, and we were both using the same configuration (hamachi still open, refreshing server list, etc.) I uninstalled Spectate from the plugins folder and that still did not fix the problem. Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: Also: Minecraft displayed an error report that I could post if you need it.

Oops, I was accidentally checking to see if they didn't have the spectate node before scrolling to them. If they didn't have it, it wouldn't scroll to them. If they did have it however, it would let you scroll to them. I'll add a fix for this in 1.9.

Posted Jun 13, 2012There are a few bugs I would like to report..
I would like to enable this plugin for just a single world on my server.
I tried to do this by setting the spectate.cantspectate node on all users and overriding that with the -spectate.cantspectate node on the level I want to use it on. This works, except when scrolling through players, even though they have cantspectate it still allows me to scroll to them. (I did change the config to true for the cantspectate)
Also using spectate.use doesnt seem to make a difference with or without it or with the anti-node -spectate.use. I can use the command anywhere (I am not an OP while testing)
I am using PEX

This was a feature I've had planned for a while now, ever since I first started working on the plugin. I might release it in the next update.

Posted Jun 12, 2012I know it can be done through other admin commands but do you think it would be an idea to make a third spectate mode that just putting the player in creative flying mode without any build/destroy permissions while spectating? Another option could even put users at a view from spectate points (possibly signs placed with certain wording)?

This is a known bug, I added a command to disable it in the next update. Got to get some more features done before I release it though...

Posted Jun 1, 2012Chipmunk: Did you ever get it so spectated players can use splash potions? I think the last build I used (1.7.1 I think?) had spectated players hitting the spectated players if any potions were thrown, just it basically hit themselves.
Thanks.
