Spectate

What is spectate?
Spectate allows you to watch players from their point of view, simply by typing in /spectate (player). You will see exactly what they see, and they'll never know you were watching them.
You can also watch them from different angles. There's Third Person, Third Person Front (looking at their face), and Freeroam (you can walk freely around and watch them from any angle).
There's also "Scroll" mode and "Scan" mode. Scroll mode allows you to right and left click to change between players, and Scan mode will change the player you're spectating every few seconds (you can set how long until it switches to the next person).
There's also an API, which allows developers to take control of the entire plugin.
To see a full list of everything you can do with Spectate, head over to the Commands page.
Spectate has undergone a complete rewrite.
Please make sure your permissions are up to date, and please report any bugs on the tickets page.
Spectate 2.0 is here!
2.0 includes:
- A complete rewrite of the entire plugin from the ground up.
- Lots of bugs fixes!
- Spectate is now compatible with Multiverse Inventories.
- A fresh new API that lets developers control the ENTIRE plugin!
And some new features:
- A new spectate angle, Third Person Front mode! Now you can watch the player you're spectating while looking at their face. What more could you ask for?
- Another new spectate angle, Free Roam mode! Now you can walk around like a ghost while still viewing their inventory. Spooky!
- You can now see the gamemode and XP of the player you're spectating!
- If you were invisible before spectating, you will still be invisible when you stop spectating.
And many more features I forgot to write down!
So what are you waiting for? Download the plugin for the complete Spectating experience today!

Yeah, I have the same problem with creative/survival inventories (It's BECAUSE of the multiworld inventories).
Luckily, none of my users have creative, so that's not a huge issue for me :D

That actually might be a good idea, to have an option if we have the vanishnopacket plugin, to use its invisibility instead. You also might wanna message the maker of VanishNoPacket, because he's talked about adding a Spectate feature to his plugin, and maybe you'd be able to collaborate together or help each other out.
BTW, I've noticed some odd glitches with inventories when spectating. I don't suppose you could add an option in the config file, to disable the inventory viewing/swap when we spectate? Cause on more than 1 occasion, I got stuck with someone else's inventory, or logged in and had some other odd inventory problems.
It could very well be my multi-world inventory plugin causing the problems.. So not your fault at all, necessarily.. But it would be nice to have an option to disable this feature, in the event we experience problems or incompatibilities with other inventory plugins.
Again, Thanks! ;D

Let me test it and get back to you...
@NikoKun
I'm fairly certain I use the same invisibility method as VanishNoPacket, but I was thinking of adding an option to use VanishNoPacket's invisibility.

Posted May 20, 2012Well, my comment was never responded to :( Besides the one by the maker of "Watcher".
Basically, every so often, this will happen:
PlayerA: Has permission to spectate PlayerB: Being spectated
PlayerA: /spectate playerb
Upon login, PlayerA is teleported to PlayerB.

What? The scroll mode won't switch to people that have the spectate.cantspectate permission.

Posted May 19, 2012I've noticed that sometimes when you spectate someone, it seems to block them from shooting arrows properly, as if their arrows hit you while your invisible and attached to them.. Not always, but sometimes.
Also wondering if that could be fixed with an invisibility method more similar to VanishNoPacket. If it's even a real problem.. heh Possibly not worth it.
Anyway, I'm glad someone finally made this plugin! =D Wish I found it sooner. I remember having a plugin like this back in the hMod/MCAdmin days.. But when those died and Bukkit took over, no one decided to re-create a plugin like this.
So thanks for making this! ;D

That actually sound appropriate because via spectate i believe the player's entity is actually in World B from your example Scott
Oh and was fun to see ya stop into the server Chipmunk :)

Posted May 17, 2012If someone from world A spectates someone in World B while world B has no permissions to spectate it makes the person in world A also have no permission, so it prevents them from turning it off

Posted May 17, 2012Wow, thanks for all the updates Chipmunk. I'm updating from 1.6 and i read the changelog. Looks like you've done a lot. My and my staff love this plugin.
Also, its so nice when authors include the entire change log in the release notes :)

Didn't mean to advert. Just mentioning that it was resolved in mine. And actually, To anyone that wants my input, i would suggest this plugin over mine. It has been around longer and had more time to be developed. Mine was just something i through together for personal use.

Posted May 14, 2012seems that when a player disconnects and I'm spectating, player's name remains on the server as if they were still there... it only remains there for me though

Hmm... If I spectate someone, then log out, then reconnect, I would be teleported to the person...

Posted May 10, 2012Inventory gets glitched sometimes. When I finish spectating, I have all their items. I also lose my items I had. Very useful plugin though! Great job on it.

Posted May 10, 2012Sometimes, when a user is spectating someone, and they disconnect, or die, or quit, or something, the user is teleported to them. This is really annoying because I don't allow teleportation on here...
