Commands
- /give
- /give <item>
- Gives yourself 1 of <item>
- /give <item> <count>
- Gives yourself the specified amount of <item>
- /give <item> <count> <player>
- Gives <player> the specified amount of <item>
- /give <item>

This was written at the very starts of bukkit. The give command didn't exist at the time. If you look at the authors, it was written by Dinnerbone... in 2011.
