Want to help?
Hey!
I haven't found much time to work on this project lately. If you want to contribute, the source code can be found here: https://github.com/PaintballWarEdition/PaintballLegacy
Feel free to open pull requests, but try to keep the changes per PR minimal to reduce the time required to review them. If you have larger or more complex changes in mind, feel free to contact me to discuss them before you start working on them.
We also started to move the documentation over to Github: https://github.com/PaintballWarEdition/PaintballLegacy-Wiki/wiki
But this can certainly be improved. If you want to help with the documentation, feel free to contact me and send me your Github username.
If you can contribute and maintain translations of the plugin, or have other ideas of how you could contribute, let me know as well!
Thanks.

Paintball is a fast paced and action packed multiplayer game.
In the classic TeamDeathMatch mode 2 teams compete against each other to bombard each other with snowballs. Once a player is hit, he's out and automatically leaves the arena and has to wait in the paintball lobby for his mates to finish and the next match to start. In the Paintball lobby you will meet all paintball players, choose your team and wait for enough players, or the end of the last match. When all conditions are met, a countdown starts which announces the next match.
Some license stuff:
You can find the full license terms here: https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/paintball_pure_war/license
You can find a basic summary of it at the bottom of this page.
Quote:Our main target is to keep this plugin easily integratable on any standard survival server without disturbing the survival feeling. You don't have to dedicate a whole server or world to this plugin!

Basic-Features
Paintball is constantly expanding. There are more and more features added which have not much to do with the classic paintball game. But do not panic: According to your personal preferences you can modify or disable most things in the config.yml in the Paintball folder.
- No client or server modifications or additional plugins are required !
- Multiple Arenas: Build as many arenas as you like !
- Complete freedom on what your arena looks like! As Paintball does not care about your arenas borders, your arena can have any shape and layout, as long as it is impenetrable. Simple build some sort of wall around your arena to keep your players inside.
- Multiple Spawns: Paintball lets you define multiple spawn points for each team (red, blue, spectators) !
- Automatic-Lobby-Arena-System: The Paintball lobby will automatically rotate through all your ready arenas. No need for administrators to be online !
Limitation: Currently there can always only run one match at a time.
- Easy: No complex setup needed ! Only 4 commands and your arena is ready and added to the automatic arena rotation !
- Mechanism to strictly seperate Survival and Paintball and to prevent "cheating" in and with Paintball.
- Easy and individually adjustable small Shop, where you can buy ammunition or other special and unique "weapons", gadgets and power-ups with the Paintball-Cash earned during the matches.
- Ranking: Your players gain points to compete with each other !
- Various statistics: examples are Points, Cash, Kills, Deaths, Hits, Shots, KD, Accurancy, Teamattacks, Wins and Defeats for each player, each arena and as a whole.
- Toggleable Killfeed ! Turn it off if it spams you !
- Most stuff is configurable ! For advanced information click here.
- Much, much more!
Easy integration on every survival server!
Our main target is to keep this plugin easily integratable on any standard survival server without disturbing the survival feeling. Players shall not be able to swindle items or gain other advantages over survival players through Paintball.
Here you got some sort of overview what actions are taken to protect the survival-part of the server:
People with the 'paintball.admin' permissions node can bypass some of them.
- Prevent commands that are not related to Paintball. So player can't teleport or use commands as a benefit.
- Prevent breaking and placing of blocks.
- Prevent dropping and picking up items, or dropping the armor.
- Options to let players only join with full health or hunger so they can't escape during fights.
- Options to save the players inventory when joining the lobby and restore afterwards.
- Paintball inventory is cleared when leaving the lobby.
- Turned off damage and starvation inside the lobby.
- Many things can be disabled if they create problems with your other plugins.
- Explosions do no damage to blocks.
- Only Paintball players receive the Paintball messages. Your other players will not get spammed.

Additional information
Hint about version checking and stats collecting:
This plugin is checking dev.bukkit.org for new updates. This can be disabled in the config with the setting "Server.Version Check".
This plugin is also doing some periodically stats tracking to mcstats.org which helps me to determine how many servers are using it. This can be disabled with the setting "Server.Metrics".
And the plugin is also sending some stats to blablubbabc.de to maybe prepare for some kind of later serverlist (a list of paintball servers). Currently those data are only stored in a non-public mysql table on my server.
- This means that this plugin is sending some general information about the minecraftserver, like: ip-adress, port, servername, slots, motd, bukkit version, if server is in onlinemode and if it has whitelist enabled.
- And some information about paintball like: how many players already played paintball there and if it is an paintball-only server (autolobby enabled) and if the server admin wants the server to be listed at some kind of public server list later, when it is finished.
→Those data are currently only send once every reload.
→ For people who don't want to share these informations with me :( → you can en- and disable this in the serverlist config (plugins/Paintball/serverlist.yml) with the setting "post enabled"

Usage conditions / License
Paintball Server Plugin for Minecraft
by blablubbabc
You can find the full license terms here: https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/paintball_pure_war/license
Those may be updated from time to time. In summary:
- Usage of this software is on own risk. I give no warranty in any kind that this software is working as intended.
- Modifications for personal use are mostly allowed. See the license for limitations on that. (Also note that the source code isn't publically available just yet. So actual modifications might be rather tricky currently.)
- Do not redistribute or publicly upload the plugin, with or without modifications. People are supposed to always download it for themselves from this page.
- Do not use for commercial purposes! This also applies to add-ons (other plugins or services for example) which are related or used in relation to this plugin! Examples: Don't sell any in-game currency that can be used related to paintball. Don't sell access, or prioritize paying players when joining paintball or the server running paintball. Make sure that your "donors" don't get any benefits such as abilities that can be used within the matches, or otherwise in relation with paintball.
Thank you for respecting these conditions!

Posted Jan 14, 2014@blablubbabc After changing that inventory option lag seems is mostly gone. I will keep an eye on that but so far now it is stable. Hoplefully it will stay that way! Thank you :)
@THEREDBARON24 It started to lag when 5/6 and more joined lobby. When 6+ players entered the arena it froze for about 10 seconds (not even countdown in chat was smooth). After countdown it was so so playable, but lag spikes remained making it really annoying for serious playing. After game ended, everything went back to normal non lag gameplay for whole server.

Hm, well, those timings doesn't seem to point to anything outstanding..
Also I meant to say: setting "Close Inventory Menu On Purchase" to true (not keeping it opened). But I guess this wasn't / isn't your issue here either..
Did you expereince lag during the period in which you created those timings?
When you experience lag, are you playing paintball yourself?
Would maybe be helpful to expereince that lag myself.. but currently I have no idea what it could be caused by for you..
It could also be that it is caused by some different plugin and only gets triggered by paintball, so maybe setting up a test paintball server with none / only a few other plugins and letting those players test it could help to identify were the problem lays..

That is what he is talking about. :) How many players do you have in the lobby when this happens? For me, whenever we kept the inventory open, it just allowed players to flood the server to get loaded up on weapons. This is also prolly the reason if you get lag with happy-hour. Hope this helps!

Thanks for an answer! Timings are here, hopefully it will tell you something: http://www.aikar.co/timings.php?url=86da25fab5b0588bb147650b4a7c31ae
If you mean by "keep shop open" this "Close Inventory Menu On Purchase" I have set it now so far on false (inventory remains open after purchase).

To be honest, no.
Can you somehow try to get some concrete timings which could help me to break down the issue? Also, have you enabled "keep shop open" in the config? Someone reported in the past that this might cause lag. Maybe I could also test it out on your server, just to experience the lag you describe myself..

Posted Jan 12, 2014Hello, I have a server with about 100 players online at once and when few players enters Paintball lobby server then starts lagging for period of time. When arena starts it continues until its end. When players leave Paintball all is fine. Server has 20 TPS all the time and timings are good. No errors in console. Iam using latest Spigot (tested as well on Bukkit) and latest PWE version.
Any clue what could be happening?

The problem with command signs is, that they are replacing the internal Player instance of the player clicking the sign with a new one in order to get some of their special features working, like for example intercepting messages send by the plugin executing the command in order to remove those. However, by changing the internal player instance paintball won't properly identify the player and will handle them as different players (example: player joins paintball, player triggers command sign with "/pb leave" on it, commandSigns creates a new player instance internally for their special features, paintball will report back that this player isn't playing paintball, because it differs between the player instance which joined paintball earlier and the new one which triggered the leave command via the sign).
I didn't checked your "workaround", so I can't give a comment on that.
To your faction-tags problems:
{faction_title} should be able to be properly replaced, if you have set the "modify chat tags priority" in the factions/mconf config to "low".
{faction_relcolor} however is a special one, because it depends on the relation of the players faction and the one of the receiving player and will therefore be handled differently by factions in order to modify it for every player differently. Sadly paintball is doing pretty much the same, in order to display player-specific chat messages, and both are incompatible with each other on it's own.. So you either have to remove the player-specific faction tag from your chat format, or disable paintball's player-specific messages by disableing "chat modifications only visible for paintballers" in the config. By that however all players will receive the paintball rank tags and other chat modifications, if you don't disable those as well..
I am currently thinking about having paintball completly ignore other plugin's chat format/tags and only sending it's own message with it's own format (no faction tags will be seen by paintball playing playes then however..)

Posted Jan 10, 2014I think I found a workaround for the commandsigns bug. It seems that when a player joins paintball and tries to activate a commandsign, the commandsign does not recognize the player who hit it as a player. Its acts like its the console clicking the sign, not the players, or something. I found out through testing that if you make the commandsign execute from the console, and sudo the player that clicked it, it works just fine. For example: /commandsigns line1 /pb blue -would become: /commandsigns line1 /#sudo <name> pb blue. The # makes the console execute the command, <name> inserts the player's ign, and sudo is an essentials command that allows the console or player of higher ranking (with permission) to force you to perform a command.
BTW, great plugin, people on my server are really going to love it once I open up the world.

Posted Jan 7, 2014Hey I'm having trouble with players leaving the lobby. I have done as it says in the FAQ, but it still does the same thing, and I don't use and command sign plugins. Unless you count essentials. You can come on my server and I can demonstrate IP:198.24.175.66:25594 Thanks, Nickphantom3

And are the paintball commands working with that now? If yes, it would be interesting to find out the plugin which changes the command via this event and causes it to break by that..

Ehm, well, I think they have a bug in there:
https://gitorious.org/simplecommandsigns/simplecommandsigns/source/153a4fd3e9a0935feb85a91c4f8988850c7edb9a:src/pgDev/bukkit/SimpleCommandSigns/SimpleCommandSignsConfig.java
line 28: callPreprocess = getBoolean("calllPreprocess", true); <- "calllPreprocess" instead of "callPreprocess"
So change it in their config file to "calllPreprocess" (3 'l'), hopefully it gets read properly then..

The only reason what I currently can think of is some of your plugins modifiyng the command inside the CommandPreprocessEvent.. SimpleCommandSigns has a setting in it's config to disable the CommandPreprocessEvent. You could try it out with this setting disable there, jsut to check if that is the issue here. If it is -> it would be interesting then to figure out which exact plugin is modifiyng the command..

Simplecommandsigns didnt work for me. Had to remove it. :(
Also i did remove all my plugins and only enable paintball. So it might be on of my plugins inflicting it :(
