OtherDrops

Make anything drop anything, anyhow!
Minecraft 1.7 features (click)!!
OtherDrops allows you to add anything from a simple "glass drops glass" or mob rewards, to a complex overhaul of your servers drops with drops differing depending on tools, biome, time, weather and much more, along with custom messages, actions and commands.
OtherDrops is lightweight* (it only acts on what you configure) and respects most protection plugins (eg. WorldGuard, Regios) settings. Many examples are included that you can enable and/or customize as you wish.

Help Wanted
Would you like to help improve OtherDrops? Here are some ways to get involved:
- Media/art: OtherDrops could really do with some tutorial and example videos.
- Testers: Testers who are able to go through the plugin and rigorously check that things (both existing and new features) work as they should. PM Zarius your Skype (or other IM) details if you're interested or jump on the IRC channel.
- Programming: any assistance is welcomed - see the todo list here for some ideas. Anyone with refactoring and/or automated testing experience that wants to assist would be great.
Thanks
Many thanks to these people who helped with OtherDrops:
- Cyklo: creator of the original OtherBlocks. OtherDrops is a continuation of Cyklo's original OtherBlocks (2011) plugin.
- Celtic Minstrel: many code commits and a major overhaul of the code moving into version 2.0. Moved on to create DropFactory.
- Rofang: major update of OtherDrops documentation.
- RugRats13: lots of testing and some documentation.
- Faldonboy & Steelsouls: currently maintaining and improving the documentation.
- CommodoreAlpha: community support on the comments/forum, assisting with documentation.
Many long nights are spent improving OtherDrops so if you like it please consider a donation to my coffee fund :)
- OtherDrops uses Metrics for anonymous usage stats (learn more).

You can already drop potions from mobs :)
See this page for potion data values.
Chromish (and a couple of others) are asking for potion effects to occur (as if you drank a potion) when you break a block, or say you kill a mob and immediately are blinded, or get increased speed.
@Chromish
Definitely possible, will look into it.

Posted Mar 9, 2012Hi. Love your plugin. I was wondering if potion effects might be possible to add in when a block/entity is interacted with? That would be really neat IMO. Thanks!

Thank you. I hope you will add this feature soon :)
An idea: You can add it as "action: world" or "action: environment" or something ^^

Very odd - looks like something wrong with the config file? Did you change it at the same time?
Can you post your config to pastebin.com and send me the link? I might be able to see the error.

I tried adding this feature a while back and it started chewing through the earth destroying every block as the water poured into the hole - was quite an interesting sight but probably not what people want to happen. I'll take a look again later sometime and see if I can make it more robust (perhaps only allowing "special" blocks like torches/crops to be affected).
@ezbik
It's a good idea - seems like it would be fit in with effect: still, even though it acts on the player.
@ezbik
Excellent - thanks for confirming that :)

1.2 death fire event should be fixed in latest version:
http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit/view/00865_1.2.3-R0.2/
CONFIRMED: Ocelot drops now work properly with this build!

Posted Mar 8, 2012Would it be possible to add potion like effects to this? Like say,
Wasn't sure 'effect' would be the right thing since 'effect' is just sounds/visuals...maybe would function as 'drop' instead, and act like breaking a potion, -sound?

It cannot "overwrite" any other console messages so if they are not appearing it's something else. I will look at bumping that message's verbosity higher so you won't see it though.

Posted Mar 8, 2012Could you remove the "[Otherdrop] Player death - not clearing" message from the console, its overwriting some other death alerts that should appear.
This has been happening for a while now, can't pinpoint the version number. Its fairly new though.

BTW: if you don't mind posting your config to pastebin.com I'll take a look and clean it up and/or give you some feedback... I like trying to improve configs and it gives me ideas about improving the plugin sometimes too.

Awesome, thanks for the formatting tip! I went back and reformatted that post as not to take up the whole page!
Good that its a bug with 1.2, at least I'm not going crazy haha! I'll also go back through my drops and tidy that up a bit, thank you for the assist! Here is another fun thing I'll throw out there, cows bite you on death?!

Yeah, I just discovered I was cheating in my test - I tested dropping ocelots, eg:
btw: use ((code yaml))stuf here...((/code)) to format properly replacing each set of two round brackets with two angled ones (eg, < and >).
When I tried a drop from a Ocelot it looks like they don't fire an EntityDeathEvent at all, so yeah, 1.2 bug it seems.
Also, your config has multiple drops in a section - can't do that. Try this instead:

That's so odd. I removed my config, and tried what you gave below, still no drops at all, not even XP. All of my mobs configs start with that basic config ( I cannot get it to format right in a post for the life of me, but its right in the config):
All my mobs use that same basic start config, moving to specific sword type drops from there. All drop the money, XP (default), and items, at the % they should. The only one that doesn't do it is the Ocelot.
In any case, here is a nifty drop for stone if anyone is interested!

Ocelots work fine - it's a config problem: you can only have one "drop" or one of any other parameter per "block" (each group starting with a dash). For multiple drops you need:
It may work for some other drops because YAML (the Bukkit configuration markup) considers the entries to be unsorted - so in some cases the drop: nothing is ignored and drop: money works, in others the opposite.
I don't know of any way to have YAML give an error for this. :( If you want to check it out try the YAML parser here with your config, you'll see on the right what config is actually seen as).

I just tested it again, with both OCELOT, and OCELOT@WILD, and still, no drops. Its almost identical of a set up to my wolf drops, and those work. I even tried taking out everything, and only have it drop money, but that didn't trigger either, nor does it drop XP (possibly due to the drop nothing, but other configs drop XP fine?). Basic money drop set up below (world is set right too :D ):
otherdrops:
CREATURE_OCELOT:
- tool: [ANY_SWORD, PROJECTILE_ARROW]
drop: NOTHING
drop: MONEY/0.05
message: "5c!"
and
otherdrops:
CREATURE_OCELOT@WILD:
- tool: [ANY_SWORD, PROJECTILE_ARROW]
drop: NOTHING
drop: MONEY/0.05
message: "5c!"
(doesn't format it right on here lol)
