This plugin is used to counter X-RAY Client mods.
It modifies data that are sent to clients to hide blocks of your choice, such as Ore, chests, dungeons, etc.
It does not manipulate blocks in the world file, thus is safe to use.
ProximityHider is a feature that hides chests that are far from players.
As of 4.3.3, Proximity Hider has been enhanced to use line-of-sight checks, not just proximity! Upgrade today.

With engine mode 1, yes, they can see around 10% of the blocks. Lowering the viewing distance is usually what large servers do to keep CPU time low: it reduces the number of mobs being tracked, etc.

So they'd probably be able to xray still? - Would lowering the view distance be a smart idea for a larger server?

Disable darkness obfuscate.
@Grimm321
It's much less effective than Engine mode 2, and it only take very slightly less CPU time. Reducing view-distance in the server.properties file will save much much more CPU than changing to engine mode 1.

Posted Jun 14, 2012Would EngineMode: 1 reduce process usage? Would it still be possible for people to xray?
I'm just trying to find the best settings to reduce process usage, yet still just be a normal anti-xray.

Orebfuscator v1.4.5 and CB 1.2.5 R4.0, but had the same bugs in R3.0 and R2.0 as well. I have lots of other plugins so I'm unsure if something there is conflicting, but I can try and remove them and narrow it down if you think it's something I did/have and not just a bug in the plugin.

Not yet, but I'm planning to make it changeable. For now, you could use simlinks I think.

Posted Jun 12, 2012Hey and thanks for the great plugin, just a question: I may not have simply found it but is it possible to change the path where the cache is being saved so we could change it? If not would it be possible to give us the ability to change the path in an update otherwise?

That's intended, otherwise, you would have small slices of chunks being not obfuscated, which x-ray hackable. Just tell the players to relog and it will be gone.
@levisn1
You might be experiencing CPU overload. Try reducing view-distance in your server.properties by 1 or 2.

Posted Jun 12, 2012I think I've found a bug.
My friend found a wall that seemed to be made of all the random blocks on a mountain side. This might have been right at the border between two regions, I'm not sure, but what I think really caused the error is that that wall was the edge of the map when when it was obfuscated (cache created?). Since the map ended there the plugin didn't know those block was going to be revealed when new chinks were created when my friend explored.
Perhaps the edge of the map could be treated as "visible", and not being obfuscated, or the blocks alongside the edge could be checked again whether they are visible or not and sent back to the client when new chunks are generated.
btw, thanks for a great plugin :)

Halfblocks and stair blocks are also considered transparent by the game... Not sure why it's not doing it correctly. What version are you using?

Actually my cache wasn't enabled, but it is now and it's still doing the exact same thing (showing through glass). Could there be a bug in the plugin, or do you think it's something I did?
One more problem that I noticed is that with the initial radius at 1, players would see the fake ores through the 1/4th part of a stairs block that was exposed to the block behind it (through the missing sliver of the block that makes it a stair). I didn't test it out, but this might happen with half slabs as well. It doesn't affect me as I use 2-3 initial radius now, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention! :)
Thanks for the reply and I hope to hear back from you again soon!

It happens if you remove all blocks from random blocks and use EngineMode 2. Don't do that.
@tremor77
ProximityHider only works on a small amount of blocks. If you add common blocks such as ores or anything, it will lag the server to death...
Crossovers does not affect performance, if it is detected to be hidden, other checks are ignored.
@tremor77
Will do.
@andrewkm
Most of the time, reducing view-distance by 1 saves more CPU than squeezing on Orebfuscator's config.
@unhappyrock
They will download a world that has screwed up ores everywhere similar to the images in the description. There is no stopping that mod, since it's client side.
@Chaznuts
Glass is considered transparent by the game, so it is considered transparent like air. If you say that fake ores show up behind glass, it might be a caching problem, try clearing or disabling cache.

Posted Jun 11, 2012Can you make it so that the ores don't get changed through glass? Like make glass work the same way air does? The problem I found is that with multiple-thicknesses of glass, the ores start getting changed behind them, but you can still see the changed ores (obviously through the glass). Higher thicknesses of glass are often used to keeping water/lava stationary while still being able to see it.. common for designs, but with this plugin, it makes it not work correctly. The only way I found to fix it was to increase the initial radius, which in turn greatly lags out the server and chunk loading (even with extreme amounts of free RAM). Would love to see an update so I can keep the radius at 2-3 and continue to use this plugin. Besides this problem, this is by far the best anti-xray I've seen and hope to continue using it! Thanks for you contribution and hard work! I hope to see it updated sometime in the near future.
PS: I'm not sure if the same problem happens for glass panes or anything else of the sort you can see through, but if it does I would like to see that fixed as well. :) Thanks!

If the mod just saves what the server sends to the player, then there is no defence, though orebfuscator does help a little beause it hides ores pretty well.

Posted Jun 8, 2012i think i sort of answered my question.. it looks like proximity hider for chests, reveals darkness obfuscated chests.. so high end valuables hidden under a few smoothstone, reveal quite easily to xray pack if you are near. Is there a way to fix this?
