NoCheatPlus

Detect and fight the exploitation of various flaws/bugs in Minecraft!
Introduction
NoCheatPlus attempts to prevent cheat clients from exploiting weaknesses of Minecraft or its protocol, making your server more safe. Checks cover a wide range of issues including flying and speeding, fighting hacks, fast block breaking and nukers, inventory hacks, chat spam and other types of malicious behaviour. NoCheatPlus puts emphasis on configurability and allows you to customize actions that are carried out when a player fails a check (e.g. silent cancelling, executing commands, just logging). Bypass permissions allow to control what check to apply for which players, all checks can be deactivated in the configuration, also having the option for world-specific configuration files. Many checks allow more detailed configuration to adjust sensitivity.
Certainly NoCheatPlus is not a magical bullet, it uses a lot of heuristics and even guessing, so you will encounter false positives here and there and also not catch every single violation. Example video of how NoCheatPlus blocks cheats (outdated plugin version).
NoCheatPlus was introduced by NeatMonster, building on the code base of NoCheat by Evenprime.

The following plugins might be useful to have a look at.
ProtocolLib
Allows NoCheatPlus to activate packet-level checks, covering a range of exploits that can't be monitored using ordinary means. Since roughly Minecraft 1.7.10, the fight.speed check can't work as expected anymore, due to changes in CraftBukkit. With ProtocolLib this can be repaired.
CompatNoCheatPlus (cncp)
Make plugins like mcMMO or MachinaCraft more compatbile with NoCheatPlus. Not all existing plugins are covered (yet), but you can leave a note or create an issue/ticket request for cncp. Phasing out: Citizens 2 should work with NCP out of the box, MagicSpells are working on compatibility too - rest will be integrated into NCP.
Orebfuscator
Orebfuscator fights all sorts of X-ray-hacks by altering the map information that is sent to the players, such that they have to mine blocks to actually reveal what is behind. Virtually a "must have". (Latest versions of Spigot contain features of Orebfuscator.)

Can't use /openinv as owner anymore when updating to latest NoCheat+
Can you fix this?
Its wierd that I am owner with " * " permissions and can't use /openinv and others can.
Error message:
"This command can be executed from the console!"

Posted Apr 18, 2012@ArticHood that has nothing to do with NoCheat+! Why?: NoCheat+ doesn't have any xray protection or blocker. Also NoCheat+ doesn't change/affect any blocks on your map. like @KJanar said :)
You have towny on your server? If so then check the "regen block" option in it.

Posted Apr 18, 2012I think my map is deteriorating because of your plugin.. I guess it's the anti-xray that leaves a mark on ones map.

@Spiritwo13 hmm then @NeatMonster should have a look at this.
But the dev from NoZombe says:

Posted Apr 17, 2012It's the critical hit. Nodus and a few others make every hit act as a critical even if you aren't jumping. It is a big problem and something I'm not sure how to combat right now.

Yes I'm talking about zombes xray mod when I refer to cheat mod. This plugin should have a feature that as soon as you push the button to turn on the xray it says "Zombes Cheat mod is not allowed on this server", just as the plugin NoZombe does.

@HighlifeTTU I don't if you're talking about the critical hit or the knockback, but now knockbacks are fixed in the latest version. If you're talking about the real critical, I need to find a way to detect them when they're done to a player.
New version released: a new anti-knockbacks check has been added and an option (enabled by default) to only allow the commands /op and /deop to be executed by the console (to prevent a little bit the exploitation of the broken authentication protocol of Minecraft).

Posted Apr 17, 2012I think my biggest issue at the moment is the always critical hit hack. I simply can't detect it. I think I know when it is happening, but I can never be sure. Any chance you'll look into a way to detect when I player gets a critical hit when they shouldn't?

In facts, it doesn't even register the PlayerPickupItem event.

Posted Apr 17, 2012Is it possible that NoCheat+ is preventing items from being picked up?
We are getting lot of complaints that when they die or throw an item down they can't pick it up.
Any suggestions? I was on CB 2155 Dev and now went back to 2149 RB to see if CB is the problem.
