NoCheat

Thank You!
Thanks to everyone who used and liked this plugin. I've set the plugin to "abandoned" status myself (that's why there is a red box above this text), because it describes best the current status of this plugin. Thanks to everyone that supported me during the year of development, with money, bug reports or simply kind words.
What now?
NoCheat 3.5.0 no longer works with recent CraftBukkit build and you will no longer get any updates or support from me anymore.
If you want to see the original version of this description page for this plugin, you can find a copy of it here: Original plugin description
Replacements for NoCheat
Check out these plugins.
NoCheat+
It is based on NoCheat's code and is therefore similar in how it works. But it also adds a ton of new features. You can find it HERE.
NoCheat Classic
It is the original NoCheat without any modifications beyond what is necessary to make it work on modern CraftBukkit versions. If you like NoCheat exactly the way it is, this may be what you are looking for. You can find it HERE.
AntiCheat
Is a new plugin that's built from scratch. That means it will behave and feel different to NoCheat. I'm sure the developer appreciates new users and bug reports. Get it HERE.
Make your own
Don't like the presented alternatives? You may just create your own plugin instead. The source code for NoCheat is HERE.

Looks like he tried to use some kind of automining or nuker, attemting to break blocks 20 times per second (or lateron even faster than that). Unless you know that the player did nothing wrong.

They do work usually, so you probably made a mistake when setting up your permission plugin configuration.
@CoolOppo
I'll test that. I've written my own "InstantBow" mod and it was blocked, limiting how fast and how strong arrows could be fired. One can still fire faster than normal, but nowhere close to instant (E.g. only one fully charged arrow per second instead of multiple ones). Unless that client somehow found a different method to shoot fully charged arrows (unlikely) I think it should be detected and blocked.
@ImJoenemesis
You have to use a recent version of CraftBukkit. NoCheat was written for CB 1.1 R3 and will not work for older CraftBukkit versions.

You can patch aimbotting kindof... Check how fast they snap onto their target, it's somewhat heuristics, but it works. This is the method that SMAC (Source Mod Anti-Cheat for Source Engine based games) uses.

Posted Feb 10, 2012The instantbow check doesn't work at all. I tested it by getting my friend with VCAHax to shoot as many arrows as he could.

I've heard that before, so I wrote a plugin that does nothing except for giving me instant block breaking powers (hitting a block breaks it immediatly) and I had no problems using that and NoCheat at the same time. I don't know how mcMMO implements their instant block breaking power, but it seems to be in a non-obvious way. Or you use some broken version of CraftBukkit/Spout that somehow broke certain events. I tested with CraftBukkit 1.1 R3.
The only thing that sometimes happened is that the block breaking got "stuck" for a block, meaning that if I kept pressing the left mouse button, that block would simply not break. That's however a bug in the minecraft client (in that case it stops sending an important packet to the server) and can easily be fixed by just clicking again instead of just keeping the left mouse button pressed.

Posted Feb 10, 2012Hello there thanks for the awesome plugin. I run MCMMO on my server and after last update No abilities were working had to downgrade versions and back to normal. Does it not allow the abilities within MCMMO any longer? Specifically the instant block breaking abilities?

So it's basically "kill-aura", where the player uses an aimbot and automatically hits all enemies that are close to him?
NoCheat limits the effect of those (force players to move their arms between hits, force them to look at their target, limit how often they can attack stuff within 1 second and limit the range of their attacks from 6 to 4.25 blocks), but as is with all forms of aimbotting and all games where it happens, it is not really patchable.

The latest and greatest doesn't allow you to set movement speed limits at all (only for people that are allowed to fly), because people generally set those to the wrong values while I allowed it.
I'm not sure what you experienced there.

Posted Feb 10, 2012Hey, I found something that I think may be a mistaken default value :P
I updated to the lates and greatest last night and immediately my chat was getting spammed with moving violations so fast I couldnt read the chat, and my players were getting hung up when they tried walking anywhere. All the violation warnings were level 1 or 2.
I opened up the config and saw the moving speed: attack limit: was set to 15
I switched it to 20 and the problems went away. Then I bumped it up to 24 just cause I was feeling generous :P
I may not fully understand what was happening but I took that to mean walking speed was limited to about how fast you would expect someone to sneak.
If I'm way off base here then please disregard this post, if not then I hope it helps someone.

Posted Feb 9, 2012.kill is in some hacking clients to cheat in pvp or cheat kill monsters. It has nothing to do with permissions. I guess a Reach hack? I just want to disable it altogether.

Ha, seems I got too generous with what is considered to "be on ground" when I fixed the problems with water. I fixed that now.

just wanted to confirm this "climbing" is possible when the player is not an OP and vanilla anti-fly is True

i dont consider that a Cheat/Hack it sounds like something you need a permissions sytem to handle, you probably need to deny it to whoever you dont want using it

my my that is a long time :P
and as i thought, 1.2 will be the "critical" update where things break, but i found back before (i am not sure!) 1.0 (minecraft) everytime the build changed it broke ur plugin lol (of course i am aware of the cat and mouse situation)
btw my friend has a client mod which allows him to climb things, no i am not runinng NoCheat but i imagine it wud count as a form of flying or illegal movement, he is an OP so i think this causes him to escape the servers built int anti-fly, although i believe it may pass that check regardless (since he isnt flying)
is this something your plugin is "Aware" of? i fear it is something i may need to combat in the future
