Mobs
Anyone who has been active on the main forums in the last few days must surely have already heard the news.
I'm not going to comment on why and how, but the short version is that Bukkit is almost certainly not getting passed this.
Consequently, the future of BukkitDev is very uncertain. Even if the legal matters were resolved tomorrow there isn't really anybody left to deal with file submissions anyway. There's no indication about how long the site will stay up and what will happen to the files.
Anyway, while I will continue updating and developing my plugins you will need to look for updates somewhere else, namely the wiki. I will be updating this wiki in the next few days to facilitate better communication (forums, email, etc.) and adding any documentation that's missing. I will also, of course, be looking into porting the plugins over to whichever API emerges from the ashes!
If you're penniless or like Mobs but not that much I'm also partial to TF2 items. Send any you don't want my way! STEAM id: coldntired
If you don't know what TF2 is, then start playing! It's free and fun!

Introduction
Mobs gives you the ability to control almost every aspect of the mobs on your server, and a few other things on top. The concept is simple - as your server is running, things are constantly happening. Players are mining, mobs are spawning, the sun is going down, it's starting to rain, etc. Behind the scenes, CraftBukkit is sending messages to all interested plugins about these events. Player John broke a block of stone in world at location 55, 23, 137; A sheep died in world at location 209, 77, 22, etc. There are dozens of events, and thousands of these messages are sent every minute. Most plugins listen for a few of these messages and act upon them. Mob-blocking plugins, for example, listen for new mobs spawning somwehere, and then look at the config to decide whether to allow or block the mob from spawning. Chat filtering plugins listen for the player is chatting messages and block/edit them according to the config. Mobs listens for most (eventually all) of the mob-related messages, and a few extra ones, and gives you the option to block, allow, or alter the effect of the event. However, it goes beyond that in that it allows you to use the event to perform one or more actions. So, while you may not want to interfere with creepers spawning, you can use this event to change the weather, set the time, drop an item somewhere, give someone some experience points, or as many of the dozens of possible actions that you want. Additionally, it's possible to use conditions to filter the events you act upon. Want to give creepers a 1 in 1000 chance of taking out half your house when it explodes? Not a problem (except for the house).Config.yml
checkfornewerversion - set to yes to allow the plugin to contact this site and see if there is a newer version available. Note that it onlys checks, and doesn't download anything. generatetemplates - set to yes to have the plugin create empty config files for every possible event. Alternatively, simply look up the names on the tutorial and create only the files you want. worldstoignore - a list of worlds in which the plugin will be effectively disabled, ignoring all events in those worlds. allow_debug - set to yes to enable other plugins to access the event API (for logging, debugging, etc.)Commands
There is one only command in the plugin, which is /reload_mobs, or /rm. The reloads the config without reloading the plugin itself. Users need the mobs.canreloadconfig permission, or to be an op.Update checking
If you like, you can set the plugin to check for any newer versions that get released. To do this use the checkfornewer_version option in the config file. This only works for release builds so you won't be bothered by any beta or dev builds. Note that no update will be downloaded even with this set.Tutorial
Start the tutorial here to read up on how the plugin works The tutorial for the old config can be downloaded from here for offline viewing.Updates
Updates for all my plugins will be announced via Twitter, which you can find here.Dependencies
Mobs has another plugin as a dependency called Extra Events. Read more about it here. Make sure you install Extra Events as well otherwise you will get errors on startup!Donate
Mobs takes a lot of time to maintain, so if your server is enriched by it and you have some spare donations please consider sharing!

Yeah, I know about that. But how should i change any settings, if it doesn't even create a config file? I tried to create a config.txt/yml by myself and filled it with the content of your "example-config". Again -> "No config file found - Stopping Mobs".

Posted Oct 7, 2012@surfarcher I would bet Mobs has a more complicated config :)
Your error is because it seems you're running both versions of Mobs (somehow).
Try Beta3

Hey hey new version. Teh awesome.
Does it upgrade your current data.mobs?
lulz @ "(and probably more complicated than any other plugin's :) )". Check out VariableTriggers and CommandHelper ;)
Hhhmmm... Stack trace on start... http://dev.bukkit.org/paste/6356/ ... Looks like it's not creating config.txt...
Thanks coldandtired!!!

Posted Oct 7, 2012Beta3 is out.
Many improvements.
A default config is now included. We shall see how the tickets go now :) If you are upgrading, then the example config will be created as example.txt. If you don't have the config already in the folder it will be created as config.txt.
Some basic player stuff is now included. The spawns and dies events now also work for players, and two events only for players, joins and picks_up_items have been added.
More has been done on repeating_outcomes. It's now possible to give the outcome the attribute enabled="false" which means the outcome won't happen unless activated. They also have another new attribute called name, which allows them to be referenced individually. Accompanying this is a new command, /repeating_outcomes or /ro. I'm not going to type it twice, so check the command section above (adding it now), New action continue, which needs some explaining so check for it on the actions pages.

Posted Oct 7, 2012@Chemical_Datas It might come back once the other stuff is stable and I can't think of much else to add.
It takes so much longer to make changes to both at once that if you look my original idea in the forum, it's a good thing I decided to do the config first :)

It's a bit buggy from what I remember. Get earlier versions by changing that 80 in the link to earlier numbers.

Posted Oct 5, 2012@TheCountIgor I move some files around last night and looks like I missed a couple of links.
I'm fixing them now but you can always use the pages button at the top of the screen to access any page.

It's not possible to have custom sounds, but you can alter the pitch and volume of pre-existing sounds you are playing. There is a method function for it in under CraftPlayer somewhere that is like...
playSound(Location loc, Sound sound, float volume, float pitch)
The MagicSpells plugin uses this method I think, and it allows you to make all sorts of weird sound variations and to use the unused sounds in the game files. It would be nice to have an action that is just like... <playsound sound="mob.ghast.scream" pitch="1.0" volume="1.0"/>

Posted Oct 5, 2012I find myself to be unable to load most of the Tutorial pages. The main Tutorial page works and the Events page does as well. The Conditions page and the Actions page are both Error 403 Forbidden to me.

Posted Oct 5, 2012@T0ffel0k The Beta2 config has to be done by hand for now. If I get enough complaints about it I'll create an app but I think the new config is much simpler to create already.

Posted Oct 5, 2012@Kiak That was requested before but I decided to change the config instead. The old config is pure XML so it's still possible to cut and paste in any text editor.
I can't see anything in VariableTriggers concerning custom sounds, only the normal sounds that I added a while ago (door opening, bow shooting, etc.) I'll look further.

In a config i might have to write down 50 lines of parameters per each drop setting per each mob. However.... I can then copy and paste that line 6000 times and make 600 1 character changes.
To make a full set of different spawns for each mob.... a Config is sitll preferable to your current silverlight APP
Please strongly consider implementing some copy and paste functions
Clicking the buttons is faster for one set of conditions on one mob... (then you realise you have to do it another 50 times to make anything exciting happen.
On a side note, Variable triggers can do custom sounds on its events and I'd bet if you ask LexLaiden (its dev) nicely he will let you know where to hook into that function for Xikages request (cause that would be a good idea)
