Minecraft: The Last Airbender is a Minecraft plugin for a Bukkit server. It is designed for Survival Multiplayer, and allows players to choose an element to bend as the benders do in the world of Avatar (the stage of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra).
Some quick notes: I will warn you that you will not be able to do everything they do in the show. There are limitations both in Minecraft and in Bukkit that prevent such extravagance. In the details of each discipline you can see exactly what you can do. As such, the description of the bending disciplines is a little altered to reflect their role in the world of Minecraft: The Last Airbender.
Features
- Play as a bender and choose which type you would like to be.
- Battle other users and see who is the best of the best.
- Compatible with WorldGuard, Factions, PreciousStones, GriefPrevention, and CreeperHeal. (Many more plugins will be added to this list)
- Nothing is required client-side
- Permissions support!
Bending
Users may bend water, earth, fire, air, or can go with being a chiblocker.. You may pick which type of bender you would like to be with the command: /bending choose [water/air/earth/fire/chi]. You may only choose one, with the exception of the Avatar, and you may never change it so be careful in your decision.
Waterbending
- Specializes in maneuverability in and on the water.
- Oceans are perfect for water benders.
- Techniques range from shooting water that do damage, freezing lakes, or even pushing enemies back with powerful waves.
- This bending style is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Water bending opens up many options in bodies of water that are otherwise closed to the other disciplines.
Earthbending
- Specializes in manipulating the earth around them.
- Any area which contains land is perfect for earth benders.
- They have the abilities to pull columns straight up from the earth, drill their way through any mountain and launch themselves through the air.
- This bending style, like water bending, is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Earth benders do not take fall damage as long as they land on the ground.
Firebending
- Specializes on destruction and incineration.
- Any environment, besides on any bodies of water, is perfect for them.
- They may create rings of fire on the ground, shoot lines of fire, and even create exploding fireballs.
- This bending style is pure offensive, and very little mobility/defense.
- Fireball is the only ability they may use that does not require any solid ground beneath them.
Airbending
- Specializes in mobility & defense.
- The land is the ideal place for airbenders, although they may also bend over the water.
- Bending air allows you to use wind to blast things away, forming a shield of air around you, or using a tornado to lift you, or your opponent, off of their feet.
- This bending style is perfect for pacifists and explorers for they lack any raw damage output, but make up for it with their utility and speed.
- Choosing air as your element increases your overall speed, decreases the rate of hunger and disables fall damage.
Chi Blocking
- Specializes in bare handed combat.
- Move faster, jump higher, take less fall damage.
- Can block someones chi, stopping them from Bending for a short period of time.
- Abilities range from Higher Jumps, Faster Punches, and Paralysis of enemies.
HELP! It's not working!
This is a Bukkit plugin, not a single player mod. It will never be a single player mod. Go to the Bukkit Wiki to set up your own server. You can play on it just like you would single player, and it requires nothing more than setting it up.
If anything is not working, look around for a development build of Bending.
Development progress
School has picked back up, so plugin development will be very intermittent at best. I've done away with the ordered releases, and will most likely be keeping 1.0.7 the "official" version until I release it as 1.1.0. It's a jump, I know, but if I were forced to stick to a schedule, the plugin would never get done. This is because there are things I like coding and want to code now, and I shouldn't have to wait just because I have something else planned for the version.
As such, there is no ETA on the release. The dev build will of course be updated as I add features, but 1.1.0 will only be officially released when everything is completed, and that could take a very long time.

Maybe adding a revert time for the blocks waterbenders remove, like grass, leaves, snow, ice, etc...
So they won't grief...

You can do that already with permissions. Consult your permissions plugin's guide.
@Klofno1
Hm, I don't think I'll be bothering with reverting that, but it is a thought. We'll see.

Posted Aug 9, 2012I'm sorry I am on my iPhone that's why haha, what I mean is : waterbenders can use snow and ice to bend but when you use for example a snow block to create a wave te snow block will be gone forever, which is very annoying when you've made a giant city out of ice and snow

Climbing like that may be something we do, but in actuality it might not work just because it won't look nice (maybe).
I feel that, especially with texture packs, shoes are OK for earthbenders to wear. Especially since you can pretend that the sole is uncovered :P (I mean if you want to get into it, most skins have shoes too, so)
@Klofno1
That there... that's not an english sentence. I have no idea what you mean. And I mean anything frozen by FreezeMelt, since Freeze was created, melts when you get too far away. You can't create snow, so I don't know what this even means.

Posted Aug 8, 2012I just have a couple of earthbending ideas: First, since earthbenders in the show generally needed a connection to the earth, they didn't wear shoes. It's a minor thing, but what if earthbending was somehow affected by wearing or not wearing boots? Second, what if earthbenders could climb certain surfaces (depending on the material), similar to the what the Dai Li could do?

Botz147 did high jump, I hadn't even tested it out too much. That's a good suggestion, I'll implement it. Thanks.

Posted Aug 8, 2012Hey, love this plugin (as does everyone on my server). I had a suggestion, When a chiblocker uses high jump while running, would it be possible to give them a little more forward momentum? This would allow chiblockers to more easily jump between ledges, rooftops, platforms etc, and would also give them a unique mobility feature, setting them apart from benders. I'm not sure if this is possible with bukkit,or maybe you prefer things the way they are, if so, I'm probably wasting my time.

Fair point I can't consider things like that as I've only ever programmed 1 thing in my life and that wast the simplest of mods and I still don't remember how to do that! To digress I have looked at your previous comments and have noticed that you want this plugin to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible which I commend as not a lot of programmers do that. Back to the point I will not push the idea any longer but I will hypothetically suggest a fix for some of the problems: To tell the server it will take it from the direction you're looking at much live wave except it will also tell the server not to make the earth go above your y-1 and as for the looks it could be a motion effect much like a sideways raise earth. For the block you want it from you could start from the block you are standing on and will check the surrounding area for bendable blocks. As for the transition where the block becomes an entity I see no workaround but I'm sure there is one yet, like you said, it may be to inconvenient of a workaround for such a simple move.

Things frozen with FreezeMelt revert when you step away from them, so I don't know what you mean by that. I'll check on the freeze-wave bugs, I know there are a few.
Abilities are fully slated out, there's no room for suggestions any longer :P
Redirecting abilities of your own element is interesting, but actually a bunch of work. Maybe down the road.
@faliceer
I've never had that issue. I'm using CraftBukkit 1.3.1, and the dev build with 0 problems. Sorry.
@HadesDude
You know you don't have to make plants into water sources, you can just pull water from the directly. And wave no longer destroys plants it hits, so the plants being destroyed is kind of a moot point.
I will not add a way to spread water. You never saw that in the series, water is a finite resource. Additionally, you realize you are complaining about water being weak where there is a lack of water... kind of exactly like in the series? Earthbenders are weak in cobblestone buildings, airbenders are severely restricted in water, firebenders stand a good chance of igniting themselves with anything they do. These are calculated balance tactics, I don't believe you've made a point about water being underpowered.
@TheOcultado
There are a few technical issues with such an ability that you may not have considered, which is why it hasn't been (and likely won't be) added. Namely, how do you choose which direction you want to extend and from where? Say you're on this cliff you're talking about, and you want to make this bridge or just an extension. You're going to need to tell the server what block you want it from, but how can you do that if it's a sheer cliff? Additionally the rock is displaced, this could be very dangerous for things on the side of a large drop.
Ultimately, while this can probably be overcome, I feel that it would be way to situational to be worth it, and would probably not look terribly nice.

Posted Aug 8, 2012This is going to come back and bite me in the a$$ but I have a question. With all the other abilities you gave earth why not an ability to move earth sideways? By that I mean you have raise earth which moves either a column or a line of earth up but that is useful for creating walls, not bridges. Think of this scenario: an earthbender is chasing an airbender they come to a five block gap and the airbender clears it with ease. The earthbender tries to catapult over it but misses and lands in the conveniently placed magical hole of death below. Just for this scenario the move would be called extend. So the airbender jumps but this time the eartbender just uses extend and keeps up the chase...even though airbenders can run faster so he has no hope but the earthbender was dropped on it's head as a kid so...yeah. I only say this as it is a fairly simple move and I am surprised you did't add anything like this from the beginning. Don't take this comment the wrong way I love the plugin and think this is one of the best i've seen so think of this as constructive criticism if that.
Yours truly

Posted Aug 8, 2012Hadesdude I would have to disagree, I know very talented waterbenders who can hold their own in any biome. I think you-are failing to adapt to your environment. As stated many times each bending will have 9 abilities, and it looks like they are all planned out.
