Minecraft: The Last Airbender is a Minecraft plugin for a Bukkit server. It is designed for Survival Multiplayer, and allows players to choose an element to bend as the benders do in the world of Avatar (the stage of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra).
Some quick notes: I will warn you that you will not be able to do everything they do in the show. There are limitations both in Minecraft and in Bukkit that prevent such extravagance. In the details of each discipline you can see exactly what you can do. As such, the description of the bending disciplines is a little altered to reflect their role in the world of Minecraft: The Last Airbender.
Features
- Play as a bender and choose which type you would like to be.
- Battle other users and see who is the best of the best.
- Compatible with WorldGuard, Factions, PreciousStones, GriefPrevention, and CreeperHeal. (Many more plugins will be added to this list)
- Nothing is required client-side

Bending
Users may bend water, earth, fire, air, or can go with being a chiblocker.. You may pick which type of bender you would like to be with the command: /bending choose [water/air/earth/fire/chi]. You may only choose one, with the exception of the Avatar, and you may never change it so be careful in your decision.
Waterbending
- Specializes in maneuverability in and on the water.
- Oceans are perfect for water benders.
- Techniques range from shooting water that do damage, freezing lakes, or even pushing enemies back with powerful waves.
- This bending style is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Water bending opens up many options in bodies of water that are otherwise closed to the other disciplines.
Earthbending
- Specializes in manipulating the earth around them.
- Any area which contains land is perfect for earth benders.
- They have the abilities to pull columns straight up from the earth, drill their way through any mountain and launch themselves through the air.
- This bending style, like water bending, is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Earth benders do not take fall damage as long as they land on the ground.
Firebending
- Specializes on destruction and incineration.
- Any environment, besides on any bodies of water, is perfect for them.
- They may create rings of fire on the ground, shoot lines of fire, and even create exploding fireballs.
- This bending style is pure offensive, and very little mobility/defense.
- Fireball is the only ability they may use that does not require any solid ground beneath them.
Airbending
- Specializes in mobility & defense.
- The land is the ideal place for airbenders, although they may also bend over the water.
- Bending air allows you to use wind to blast things away, forming a shield of air around you, or using a tornado to lift you, or your opponent, off of their feet.
- This bending style is perfect for pacifists and explorers for they lack any raw damage output, but make up for it with their utility and speed.
- Choosing air as your element increases your overall speed, decreases the rate of hunger and disables fall damage.
Chi Blocking
- Specializes in bare handed combat.
- Move faster, jump higher, take less fall damage.
- Can block someones chi, stopping them from Bending for a short period of time.
- Abilities range from Higher Jumps, Faster Punches, and Paralysis of enemies.
HELP! It's not working!
This is a Bukkit plugin, not a single player mod. It will never be a single player mod. Go to the Bukkit Wiki to set up your own server. You can play on it just like you would single player, and it requires nothing more than setting it up.
If anything is not working, look around for a development build of Bending.
Development progress
School has picked back up, so plugin development will be very intermittent at best. I've done away with the ordered releases, and will most likely be keeping 1.0.7 the "official" version until I release it as 1.1.0. It's a jump, I know, but if I were forced to stick to a schedule, the plugin would never get done. This is because there are things I like coding and want to code now, and I shouldn't have to wait just because I have something else planned for the version.
As such, there is no ETA on the release. The dev build will of course be updated as I add features, but 1.1.0 will only be officially released when everything is completed, and that could take a very long time.

Posted Jul 5, 2012People have been giving plenty of suggestions for new abilities and while I welcome them, I have plans for every bending. They're all going to have exactly 9 abilities, and I already know what they will be.
I haven't updated the plugin in a while (I know, like half a week, right!) but I wanted to assure people it's not because I'm not working on it. I just keep adding new features and fixing bugs, so it's not been ready for a new release because once I add something I'm already 50% through adding something else. Not sure when 1.0.6 will be out, but some things to look forward to (already implemented on the live beta server):
-A config option for earthbending to revert itself -Waterbending gets stronger at night -Firebending nerfed across the board, but made stronger during the day (so it is about as strong as it was during the day)
There's plenty more, but I'll save that for the release. This was just a teaser :P

I haven't used PEX, but as I understand it the implementation of permissions in the plugin is near-universal. I think all plugins now tie into the Bukkit default hasPermission method. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with PEX to give you anymore info than this.

Posted Jul 5, 2012@ yannkwb Orion304 has already stated he won't make earthbending un do itself, how ever a agree it would be nice to have an optional permission node that the risen earth bending will fall apart after [ configurable time here ] (could turn into gravel or something, or just fall back down) so beginning earthbenders can practice their work unworried about destroying the land scape, while master earthbenders work could remain forever.
As a server owner and admin I understand your consern in regards to the high potential for grefing.

man i'm using PEX and i can't deny permission that way, can you give help me with the command? i've already try to look for this permission on the permission file, there's notthing there refering to bending.
i've tryied these commands in attempt of denying bending to the group default
pex group default set bending.*: deny / pex group default set bending.*:deny / pex group default add bending.*: deny / pex group default add bending.*:deny
none of those worked, maybe it's not compatible with PEX

Posted Jul 4, 2012Orion304 For firebending that's about right for what i was thinking, the left and right fire streams. But I think even tho firestream makes a weak attack the ability to spawn two of them makes a good deterrent to players like air benders who can out maneuver the firebender while in combat. In my testing i found arc of fire to be an extremely powerful move. Maybe too powerful to use in this respect. But whatever you do i think firestream or arc of fire would work fine.

There are many plugins that you could use to make a leveling system just use permissions and create groups with more bending powers as players get better give them a higher rank.

I noticed RingOfFire doesn't have an option in the config. I've effectively nerfed all of firebending a bit EXCEPT for that.

Did you get it working with the PvP flag? For example, the spawn point's region on my server is called "spawn", so the following command stopped all bending inside there: "/rg flag spawn pvp deny"

We'll see about the earthbending suggestion.
I'm not quite sure what you mean about the firebending suggestion, you mean click and you form two firestreams, one going left and one going right? I'm honestly not sure of the usefulness of that ability, since firestream as actually more of a utility than an attack. If you're talking about arc of fire, I think taking the extra second to make another arc on the other side of you isn't too much to ask.
Waterbenders can in the next patch, and by themselves too. Stay tuned, or test it on my server (if it's not full).
That's a pretty good idea for airbenders, I may implement it.

Posted Jul 3, 2012I have a request for earth benders. In the series you can see earthbenders create a platform to stand on. (wider than 1 block wide) It would be nice to be able to generate a platform that's like a 3 block radius circle.
Also itd be awesome to see fire benders being able to shoot 2 fire streams from Their sides like the series shows many times. This would give firebenders a quick defence when being flanked but keeping their powers almost totally offensive.
As for waterbenders itd be awesome to envelope a targe it water as another waterbender could freeze it. Or just attempt to suffocate/slow the target.
Airbenders could use another airblast or air swipe ability that hits the target from the side pushing the target right or left depending on what side of the mouse is clicked. Like air benders do in the series.
Just some ideas, Ive tested your pluggin with no problems. It's awesome keep up the great work.

Posted Jul 3, 2012How exactly would I turn off bending in a WorldGuard region. I know how flags work with regions, but am I missing a flag for this?

Permissions are enabled by default. You'll have to deny them in your permissions file with bending.element.ability: deny.
E.g.
orion304: permissions: bending.fire.fireball: deny bending.earth.*: deny
or just bending.*: deny to deny all.

Posted Jul 3, 2012i'm not following.. everybody who enters in my server can already choose a element and bend, even if i don't set the permissions for his group, still trying to denied access to the command. can anybody help me?
aannd i have some idias if you want to add some effects to the skills.
firebending= effect spawn earthbending= effect blockbreak/explosion airbending= bigsmoke/smoke... waterbending= blue splash<

I'll not be adding mana or energy or chi or anything like that. There's only one episode where they even showed exhaustion from bending, and that was The Drill when they had just cut through a steel pillar. And they still kept going and then fought right afterwards.
Lightning arrows, while no doubt cool, isn't bending. I'll not be doing that, it would still come from the sky.

All the FAQs are regards to subsets of bending, I wasn't talking about a new bending class. I've seen all episodes of each series, so I do know these things ;)
An ability that can only be used once every 29 minecraft days would be useless. Full moons are client-side. And on that 29th day, for a few minutes, waterbenders are just simply OP.
Leveling will never be done from me - I'm not making an RPG. Not that I don't agree with your points, but that should be entirely up to the server owner, and can be with Permissions (already implemented).
By metalbending, I meant see bloodbending. Too OP or useless, whichever way you want to implement it. I'll update the answers on those FAQs so you can see a better explanation.
Also, I have no idea what's wrong on your server. Maybe try running it with no plugins but worldguard (a bug in the code makes it require worldguard) on a fresh server? Just to see.

Posted Jul 3, 2012Hmm... tried it on my other server, which is basically a copy of the first one I tried it on with the exception of me using Permission Ex instead of BukkitPermissions.
Also, in regards to bloodbending, it is part of waterbending. It is the water within the body that they control, so it should not be considered it's own bending ability. According to the lore, I believe there has only ever been one family that has been able to accomplish bending outside of it being a full moon. If a pattern was utilized similar to earths moon orbit, every 29 MC days have a night where water tribe has the ability to control any mob which has blood. Such as making mobs follow and protect you.
Adding a leveling system to the bending would be nice as well. Most bending according to the story is a skill taught by family or tribes and it takes time and practice to learn. Blood bending could be considered the part of the very top levels. This would also prevent people from getting fireball right away and going nuts shooting it at everything or something like that.
Didn't see anything above regarding metalbending... it is a subset of earthbending. This would be hard to code no doubt though.

Posted Jul 3, 2012I was looking forward to this... tried out the latest version and it lagged my server (13 ticks per second), and none of the bending worked. Got no error messages, could bind abilities and stuff, but nothing would happen. Checked to see if there was any config files, or even a directory to store the config files in, and I see none. Any ideas?
