Dev build
Development builds of this project can be acquired at the provided continuous integration server. These builds have not been approved by the BukkitDev staff. Use them at your own risk. This link has been removed because Bukkit doesn't like Github as a CI server.
Minecraft: The Last Airbender is a Minecraft plugin for a Bukkit server. It is designed for Survival Multiplayer, and allows players to choose an element to bend as the benders do in the world of Avatar (the stage of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra).
Some quick notes: I will warn you that you will not be able to do everything they do in the show. There are limitations both in Minecraft and in Bukkit that prevent such extravagance. In the details of each discipline you can see exactly what you can do. As such, the description of the bending disciplines is a little altered to reflect their role in the world of Minecraft: The Last Airbender.
Features
- Play as a bender and choose which type you would like to be.
- Battle other users and see who is the best of the best.
- Compatible with WorldGuard, Factions, PreciousStones, GriefPrevention, and CreeperHeal. (Many more plugins will be added to this list)
- Nothing is required client-side
- Permissions support!
Bending
Users may bend water, earth, fire, air, or can go with being a chiblocker.. You may pick which type of bender you would like to be with the command: /bending choose [water/air/earth/fire/chi]. You may only choose one, with the exception of the Avatar, and you may never change it so be careful in your decision.
Waterbending
- Specializes in maneuverability in and on the water.
- Oceans are perfect for water benders.
- Techniques range from shooting water that do damage, freezing lakes, or even pushing enemies back with powerful waves.
- This bending style is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Water bending opens up many options in bodies of water that are otherwise closed to the other disciplines.
Earthbending
- Specializes in manipulating the earth around them.
- Any area which contains land is perfect for earth benders.
- They have the abilities to pull columns straight up from the earth, drill their way through any mountain and launch themselves through the air.
- This bending style, like water bending, is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Earth benders do not take fall damage as long as they land on the ground.
Firebending
- Specializes on destruction and incineration.
- Any environment, besides on any bodies of water, is perfect for them.
- They may create rings of fire on the ground, shoot lines of fire, and even create exploding fireballs.
- This bending style is pure offensive, and very little mobility/defense.
- Fireball is the only ability they may use that does not require any solid ground beneath them.
Airbending
- Specializes in mobility & defense.
- The land is the ideal place for airbenders, although they may also bend over the water.
- Bending air allows you to use wind to blast things away, forming a shield of air around you, or using a tornado to lift you, or your opponent, off of their feet.
- This bending style is perfect for pacifists and explorers for they lack any raw damage output, but make up for it with their utility and speed.
- Choosing air as your element increases your overall speed, decreases the rate of hunger and disables fall damage.
Chi Blocking
- Specializes in bare handed combat.
- Move faster, jump higher, take less fall damage.
- Can block someones chi, stopping them from Bending for a short period of time.
- Abilities range from Higher Jumps, Faster Punches, and Paralysis of enemies.
HELP! It's not working!
This is a Bukkit plugin, not a single player mod. It will never be a single player mod. Go to the Bukkit Wiki to set up your own server. You can play on it just like you would single player, and it requires nothing more than setting it up.
If anything is not working, look around for a development build of Bending.
Development progress
School has picked back up, so plugin development will be very intermittent at best. I've done away with the ordered releases, and will most likely be keeping 1.0.7 the "official" version until I release it as 1.1.0. It's a jump, I know, but if I were forced to stick to a schedule, the plugin would never get done. This is because there are things I like coding and want to code now, and I shouldn't have to wait just because I have something else planned for the version.
As such, there is no ETA on the release. The dev build will of course be updated as I add features, but 1.1.0 will only be officially released when everything is completed, and that could take a very long time.

Posted Jul 31, 2012I think you should get some kind of ticket system for this plugin to handle requests, that way the comments aren't filled with that kind of stuff. Would also be a nice way to handle reports. You could get a few ticket managers to help out in that department. End Result: Better organization. It could also help against duplicate questions / answers being nobody wants to go through 40 pages of comments.

You are aware of HeatMelt, Illumination, Extinguish and FireJet's utility, yes?
Also, none of that covered the idea that no non-avatar firebender has ever bent lava.

The lava bubble is quite situational but if you go mining it's a more common occurrence. I was just thinking of giving Firebenders another utility power that could be useful while mining. I like the idea of using these bending powers for other things besides combat. It really changes the Minecraft experience even beyond PvP.
The lava bubble would be really useful when traveling with a team through both mining expeditions and custom made dungeons that rely heavily on lava as traps. The ability would still be dangerous as lava would be all around but I think adding it would give a completely new perspective to adventuring like tornado (for reaching high places) and tremor sense (for when you run out of torches) do.

Hate to be a downer but those explosion moves don't sound very good. It's just one technique that every bender can do which is something Orion seems to be avoiding. Aside from that, there already is an ability that pushes enemies away in a sphere-like pattern for Airbending - Air Shield. There is also already a Firebending ability that goes in all directions - Ring of Fire. For Water, there is yet another ability similar to this spherical attack you suggested, Water Wall. I guess it couldn't hurt to be able to change the size of the wall in the config file, but making it span as far as the Ring of Fire or the Air Shield would be a little excessive.
Basically, the "explosion" moves are all the same thing and I think it would be a very bad idea to implement one technique that everyone could do rather than make unique techniques suited to each bending type. Maybe the dev team will think otherwise but if they do put it in I could see some major changes to what you initially described.

There are too many ways this can be managed from the admin's side without an option that I don't think it would be worth the time to do it. I don't think that many people would seriously put that option on their servers, as after the novelty would pass there are a lot of people who wouldn't like the choice the server gave them (like non-bender, which there are a lot of in the Avatar world).
@craelon
That is an interesting idea, but I have two issues with it. Firstly, it seems way too situational. You don't often come to a lake of lava that you want to traverse *through* instead of over. But secondly, the bigger reason is that only Avatars have ever bent lava - I don't want plain ol' firebenders being able to bend lava.
@Klofno1
@Cecelo126
New abilities are nice to think about, but I already have all of the abilities set in stone for each bender. Stay tuned for what they are. WaterSpout is disabled because it's being reworked.
@Chriszz159
Minecraft 1.3 hasn't even dropped yet >.<
And it will be updated when Bukkit is updated. That is always the case for any plugin.

Posted Jul 31, 2012Hi there, I've got a few questions.
1. Why has waterspout been removed @dev build?
Tips :
Air : Blast air into every direction and pushes your enemies. Fire : lava explosion, (requires lava) same as my air explosion but than with lava. (for example standing in the middle of a pool of lava and burst lava in all direction. Water : same als fire (lava explosion) but than with water and you can turn yourself and oppents into ice. (just like katara did @azula in the series, final battle)
This is an example for the water, air and fire explosions :
Earth : same as earthblast but than a 4x4x1 (like shooting a wall of earth)
And something like this :
And like a circle of fire, spinning around you and everything that comes too close will burn (mhoewhahahahaha) *evil laugh*

Posted Jul 31, 2012Just thought of an ability for Firebenders.
Lava Bubble
Works like the Air Bubble that Airbenders and Waterbenders can do to water but only for lava. The practical uses for this kind of ability are enticing as well as dangerous, and I don't think it would be too overpowered for them to have since removing lava is much less dangerous than adding it.

The only issue with that is that server owners would get constant complaints from players not enjoying the element the server game them.

Thanks for the help, MistPhizzle.
Yes, 2, 5 and 7 are the damages, where 1 damage is half a heart (so a player has 20 life). Yes, the issue is NoCheat's fighting at a range check. I've been working on a work-around, but it's proving to be very difficult.
Earthbenders shouldn't be able to bend while in or looking at a protected region. Are you sure you've got your protection correct?
And lastly, yes bending dies. There are still quite a few bugs which are very difficult to track down that seem to kill bending randomly. There is no workaround for this yet.

With NoCheat, disable the Fight checks.... that should help with Damage. As far as I know you can keep movement checks on.
MultiMinecraft looks to be shared hosting, I would find a nice VPS host, but it requires a bit more work to set up and maintain. You will have to learn the Linux command line for a lot of it.
Hope that helps.

If you have something like NoCheat, that could be an issue. Also, are you on a VPS, Dedi, or Shared Hosting? A lot more goes into a server than just the amount of RAM. You may be able to run a bunch of stuff without the Bending plugin on a shared hosting server, but Bending does use a fair amount of resources to my knowledge.
Places like BeastNode / Other places that sell servers on a per-slot type of thing are Shared Hosts. From my experience, VPS is much better than Shared. You can do more on a VPS and I've noticed performance is definitely better.

Thats the damage in the config file which I didn't mess with....?
And I'm running a 4 gig ram server with about 20 plugins, could that be the problem?

Posted Jul 30, 2012@idk_idk It doesn't do 7 damage, it's a multiplier I believe. Now, it definitely shouldn't be 0.
As far as the reload every 10 hours, Bending is an intensive plugin from what I understand. This isn't the type of thing you would want to run a bunch of other plugins with. I recommend improving server hardware so you have to do that LESS. Yeah, bending lags out for my server every once in a while but usually fixes itself in about 5-10 minutes or so.
