Minecraft: The Last Airbender is a Minecraft plugin for a Bukkit server. It is designed for Survival Multiplayer, and allows players to choose an element to bend as the benders do in the world of Avatar (the stage of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra).
Some quick notes: I will warn you that you will not be able to do everything they do in the show. There are limitations both in Minecraft and in Bukkit that prevent such extravagance. In the details of each discipline you can see exactly what you can do. As such, the description of the bending disciplines is a little altered to reflect their role in the world of Minecraft: The Last Airbender.
Features
- Play as a bender and choose which type you would like to be.
- Battle other users and see who is the best of the best.
- Compatible with WorldGuard, Factions, PreciousStones, GriefPrevention, and CreeperHeal. (Many more plugins will be added to this list)
- Nothing is required client-side
- Permissions support!
Bending
Users may bend water, earth, fire, air, or can go with being a chiblocker.. You may pick which type of bender you would like to be with the command: /bending choose [water/air/earth/fire/chi]. You may only choose one, with the exception of the Avatar, and you may never change it so be careful in your decision.
Waterbending
- Specializes in maneuverability in and on the water.
- Oceans are perfect for water benders.
- Techniques range from shooting water that do damage, freezing lakes, or even pushing enemies back with powerful waves.
- This bending style is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Water bending opens up many options in bodies of water that are otherwise closed to the other disciplines.
Earthbending
- Specializes in manipulating the earth around them.
- Any area which contains land is perfect for earth benders.
- They have the abilities to pull columns straight up from the earth, drill their way through any mountain and launch themselves through the air.
- This bending style, like water bending, is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Earth benders do not take fall damage as long as they land on the ground.
Firebending
- Specializes on destruction and incineration.
- Any environment, besides on any bodies of water, is perfect for them.
- They may create rings of fire on the ground, shoot lines of fire, and even create exploding fireballs.
- This bending style is pure offensive, and very little mobility/defense.
- Fireball is the only ability they may use that does not require any solid ground beneath them.
Airbending
- Specializes in mobility & defense.
- The land is the ideal place for airbenders, although they may also bend over the water.
- Bending air allows you to use wind to blast things away, forming a shield of air around you, or using a tornado to lift you, or your opponent, off of their feet.
- This bending style is perfect for pacifists and explorers for they lack any raw damage output, but make up for it with their utility and speed.
- Choosing air as your element increases your overall speed, decreases the rate of hunger and disables fall damage.
Chi Blocking
- Specializes in bare handed combat.
- Move faster, jump higher, take less fall damage.
- Can block someones chi, stopping them from Bending for a short period of time.
- Abilities range from Higher Jumps, Faster Punches, and Paralysis of enemies.
HELP! It's not working!
This is a Bukkit plugin, not a single player mod. It will never be a single player mod. Go to the Bukkit Wiki to set up your own server. You can play on it just like you would single player, and it requires nothing more than setting it up.
If anything is not working, look around for a development build of Bending.
Development progress
School has picked back up, so plugin development will be very intermittent at best. I've done away with the ordered releases, and will most likely be keeping 1.0.7 the "official" version until I release it as 1.1.0. It's a jump, I know, but if I were forced to stick to a schedule, the plugin would never get done. This is because there are things I like coding and want to code now, and I shouldn't have to wait just because I have something else planned for the version.
As such, there is no ETA on the release. The dev build will of course be updated as I add features, but 1.1.0 will only be officially released when everything is completed, and that could take a very long time.

Posted May 31, 2013This is a great mod and I've used it as a player many times before.
However it seems if you're earth and at spawn you'll get spammed by the "Not able to edit terrain" message.
Is there a way to pervent this or stop bending in particular areas?

The worldedit wiki is the place to start.
@codiaz
The airblast thing isn't a bug, it is a new feature. It has no height limitation on the person who made it. If you have reset your config like you said, it is still balanced in its normal uses.
I'll check into the bugs when I can.

How have you managed to miss the part in every one of my posts where I have mentioned that it is a bug that will be fixed, by me?
Why are you so resistant to the idea of believing me that when I say the "quick fix" you are asking for will not care if PEX says they can't fly? Do you think I wouldn't know what removing those lines of code would do? Do you think your experience as a server admin has given you insight into one particular brute force method I invoke?
You are welcome to do as you say you will, and remove the lines of code I mentioned. You will see why I call it a quick fix and not a REAL fix which would be much harder to do.
I'll spare you the suspense. Every tick of the server, the Bending plugin goes through the entire list of players on the server. It checks if the player is flying. If that player is flying, then it checks to see that the player CAN fly, by definition of Bending itself or by creative mode. If they can not fly, it removes their flight forcibly. This is where the bug lies, as Bending has no concerns for other plugins which allow flight.
If you remove this code, then anyone who gains flight briefly by bending will be able to continue flying at will, forever. It won't care if PEX has disabled commands, it won't care what other plugins say. And bending grants temporary flight often, for example Tornado, WaterSpout, Catapult and FireJet.
I'll spare you the details on WHY I chose to do this, because at every point when I have tried to give you them, you have resisted because you are not in my shoes.
This is why I am saying you have not read. You are accusing me at every post of not making this "feature" (which I have clarified it is not) optional, even though every response has been me saying it is on my to do list.
You continue to accuse me of not using logic, when in reality you simply don't understand what I am saying because you have not spent any amount of time coding this plugin. Maybe now you will see how I can call it a "quick fix" to remove the lines of code, and why that actually creates more problems. This is why I said I have idea for a better fix, but they are not nearly so simple.
Finally, I did not write the wiki, nor do I maintain it. It is a cheap shot towards it, entirely unnecessary, and at least we have a wiki. And the next time YOU develop a plugin as massive as this one, how about YOU maintain a more thorough change log for the dev build before taking a second cheap shot.

I never said that, if you had bothered to read my comments. I am asking for it to be made OPTIONAL!! Surely you understand what optional means, yes?
Please make up your mind as to whether this is hard to fix or easy to fix. Unlike you and whoever might be on your server, my server is populated with responsible adults. Guess what? PEX can block users from using /fly just fine. I see no simple way your plugin could possibly allow every single person on my server to use /fly despite PEX permissions. As for flyhacks, they are (unofficially) allowed. Nobody has ever used one, though.
Your refusal to make these "few lines of code" that cause this bug optional has made your plugin completely useless for my server. I will be removing your plugin from my server. I will, however, be borrowing your source and removing those lines of code myself. Anyone who wants the fixed version needs only PM me and I'll be happy to provide it because the author of this plugin is too bull-headed to make one little feature optional.
And, again, learn to logic. You can't say something is hard to fix and then later say it would require only removing a couple lines of code. Also, a properly configured server won't kick people for flying or moving too fast. You are accommodating idiots who have no business running a server themselves
Lastly, I am offended by your implication that I had not read. I'll have you know that I have read every single last page of your (rather poorly written) wiki and (rather incomplete) changelog.
I have not been running servers since Alpha just so some bull-headed coder could impose his "flyhack prevention" policies on me. I have other means of preventing hackers. If you knew diddly squat about running a server, you would too.

Maybe the website or video that taught you how to use it or the commands that you require to make a bending arena with the worldedit restore/snapshot?Please let me know.

I had a similar issue with fireblast and fireburst, you wouldn't happen to be using Citizens or Denizen on your server would you? My issue was solved by removing the latest version of those plugins.

The errors you two are reporting are intriguing. I can't help but think it's some issue with Bending and the most recent Bukkit or permissions plugin.
As you can see for yourself, I'm doing nothing special on my servers. From my experience, the Bending plugin works out of the box. Additionally, nothing in the dev build changes anything to do with the bugs you are reporting.
If I were here, I'd test it with no permissions plugins at all, and on the 3 different Bukkits currently in use (1.4.7, 1.5.1 and 1.5.2) to see where your bug is from. Alas, I'm not, so you'll have to troubleshoot for yourself. If you find a solution or the cause, please post it here for others. Good luck!
But definitely I'd investigate permissions, as that sounds like the root of your problem, especially if Ops can do it. But like I said, nothing with permissions has changed with the active bendings like Lightning and FireBlast.
@Mrdementor2
Yes, I use WorldEdit's restore/snapshot feature to fix the arena after a certain amount of time. I'd look it up.
I use ServerSigns (more complicated) to allow users to restore the arena with a cooldown.
One final thing - the command "/b reload" will reset all earthbending. I'd recommend using that before restoring an arena with other plugins, so you don't have any weird reappearing blocks.

Posted May 31, 2013Ok so now i understand more of what you are saying. Now that i think of when i played on the server i remember that there was a time limit set and when that certain time was reached a text would enter the chat saying that the bending arena would reset and all the blocks that where moved or destroyed during bending battles all re-spawned. If you know anything about that i would be glad to be told of such a thing.

@orion304
I have an issue with the latest update, firebenders can no longer use fireblast or fireburst. Fire particles just hovers in the air and that's it. I have disabled all plugins on my server so it doesn't seem to be a plugin conflict. I deleted bending files but I don't know how to fix this. Staff with all perms can fire bend perfectly, so it seems to be a permission issue. But they can bind the moves, just not use them. Ideas?

Posted May 31, 2013Yes, the smoke still shows up when my players and I try to use lightning. When we release shift to fire it, nothing happens. No console errors occur. Fire also does not seem to dissipate. I find myself always having to go around my server with HeatControl and do it myself, not that it's a huge deal, but still.

You can disable bending with a plugin that disables building. For example, if you use WorldGuard and disable building in a region, bending will also be disabled. If someone cannot build because of factions, they also cannot bend, and so forth.
As such, with the 1.1.0 dev build, you cannot create an arena which allows bending but disables building, which I explained why in the question in linked.
FireBlast's explosion only heals if you have something that heals TNT explosions, like CreeperHeal.

Posted May 31, 2013I do not understand what a build flag is (i am not very plugins savvy so don't judge me) so I searched it up on YouTube and got no satisfying results according to my search. If you miss interpreted what I wrote before or not this is what i'm asking:<How do you make a bending arena and when players enter it and bend that i don't get greifed>. Cause i went on a bending server and found that when i use fire-blast i break blocks but then they re-spawn.

I didn't see the part of your post towards me. Thanks about the WallOfFire - I'm quite happy about the new version too.
PhaseChange wasn't haphazardly done like the originally WallOfFire. While, of course, I'll look into any major causes of lag, I have doubts that I could improve performance of that ability - it necessarily uses a lot of CPU power to check frozen blocks and whether they should thaw or not.
@kitzmaan75350
For the possibilities of doing XP or otherwise turning this into an RPG, check the F.A.Q., as I first said.
@Mrdementor2
You editted your question to ask how to block bending while blocking building and breaking. The question under the FAQ I posted to you answers that.

You have selectively read what I've said, misread, and misinterpreted so many things. You are making accusations and assumptions which are just not true. And the one time you called me on a "contradiction", it wasn't even a contradiction.
I'm not imposing my server policies on others. I don't think people who allow flight in their servers are just wrong. You are frustrating me, putting words in my mouth.
The anti-fly thing is classified as a BUG, not a feature. As I said in my original statement, I want to fix it but it is not easy. If you'd like to take a go at it, the source code is on github. I cannot, like I said in my original post, even work on fixing it until I'm back in the states in 2 weeks.
That you think this BUG represents my policy on flyhacks in servers, my view on server owners, or shows that I wish to IMPOSE this upon others is what's infuriating.
I clearly stated that this was how the plugin had to develop. Without this "bug", almost all the movement utility features of Bending would be broken by vanilla Minecraft, as it thinks its flyhacking. And if you think Bending would be at all popular if it required a server to allow flying across the board, you are sorely mistaken.
This "bug" is not easy to fix. As I said, again in my original post, I have an idea on how to do it, but I will repeat that it's not easy.
Your comment about fixing this by the end of the month (heck did you mean by TODAY? that's ridiculous) or dropping Bending from the server sounds an awful lot like a threat. Which I don't respond to, even if I could (which, as I said, I can't).
You need to chill, read all of what I say, or hey, read a little bit of the comments which came before you, MANY of which were talking about flying where I explained even further. In fact, if you would have taken the time to read the "known issues", you'd know that that both know of this bug and will be working on a fix.
Last bit: people paid for flying. I get that, and their frustrations. The quick fix you're asking for - to disable the anti-flyhack code I have - is indeed a simple fix. It's literally deleting a few lines of code. But it would mean that every single player on your server could fly. Regardless of permissions (even PEX), regardless of plugins, they'd be able to fly when they wanted to. You think your players would be more or less happy paying for something that everyone has now? This bit is just for curiosity, nothing more.
