Minecraft: The Last Airbender is a Minecraft plugin for a Bukkit server. It is designed for Survival Multiplayer, and allows players to choose an element to bend as the benders do in the world of Avatar (the stage of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra).
Some quick notes: I will warn you that you will not be able to do everything they do in the show. There are limitations both in Minecraft and in Bukkit that prevent such extravagance. In the details of each discipline you can see exactly what you can do. As such, the description of the bending disciplines is a little altered to reflect their role in the world of Minecraft: The Last Airbender.
Features
- Play as a bender and choose which type you would like to be.
- Battle other users and see who is the best of the best.
- Compatible with WorldGuard, Factions, PreciousStones, GriefPrevention, and CreeperHeal. (Many more plugins will be added to this list)
- Nothing is required client-side
- Permissions support!
Bending
Users may bend water, earth, fire, air, or can go with being a chiblocker.. You may pick which type of bender you would like to be with the command: /bending choose [water/air/earth/fire/chi]. You may only choose one, with the exception of the Avatar, and you may never change it so be careful in your decision.
Waterbending
- Specializes in maneuverability in and on the water.
- Oceans are perfect for water benders.
- Techniques range from shooting water that do damage, freezing lakes, or even pushing enemies back with powerful waves.
- This bending style is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Water bending opens up many options in bodies of water that are otherwise closed to the other disciplines.
Earthbending
- Specializes in manipulating the earth around them.
- Any area which contains land is perfect for earth benders.
- They have the abilities to pull columns straight up from the earth, drill their way through any mountain and launch themselves through the air.
- This bending style, like water bending, is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Earth benders do not take fall damage as long as they land on the ground.
Firebending
- Specializes on destruction and incineration.
- Any environment, besides on any bodies of water, is perfect for them.
- They may create rings of fire on the ground, shoot lines of fire, and even create exploding fireballs.
- This bending style is pure offensive, and very little mobility/defense.
- Fireball is the only ability they may use that does not require any solid ground beneath them.
Airbending
- Specializes in mobility & defense.
- The land is the ideal place for airbenders, although they may also bend over the water.
- Bending air allows you to use wind to blast things away, forming a shield of air around you, or using a tornado to lift you, or your opponent, off of their feet.
- This bending style is perfect for pacifists and explorers for they lack any raw damage output, but make up for it with their utility and speed.
- Choosing air as your element increases your overall speed, decreases the rate of hunger and disables fall damage.
Chi Blocking
- Specializes in bare handed combat.
- Move faster, jump higher, take less fall damage.
- Can block someones chi, stopping them from Bending for a short period of time.
- Abilities range from Higher Jumps, Faster Punches, and Paralysis of enemies.
HELP! It's not working!
This is a Bukkit plugin, not a single player mod. It will never be a single player mod. Go to the Bukkit Wiki to set up your own server. You can play on it just like you would single player, and it requires nothing more than setting it up.
If anything is not working, look around for a development build of Bending.
Development progress
School has picked back up, so plugin development will be very intermittent at best. I've done away with the ordered releases, and will most likely be keeping 1.0.7 the "official" version until I release it as 1.1.0. It's a jump, I know, but if I were forced to stick to a schedule, the plugin would never get done. This is because there are things I like coding and want to code now, and I shouldn't have to wait just because I have something else planned for the version.
As such, there is no ETA on the release. The dev build will of course be updated as I add features, but 1.1.0 will only be officially released when everything is completed, and that could take a very long time.

Posted Mar 20, 2013I was wondering if you could make it possible for waterbenders to bend from grass blocks and after they use it it would turn to dirt.

Posted Mar 19, 2013Orion i'm sorry, i think it's working, HOWEVER the Messages section is not getting the changes. Try to modify that part and you'll see. the rest seems to be working i guess
some other questions: How can i change de color of the senteces? I notice that when I write "çsentence..." it gets green
If i want to use other plugin to display the information about yours, and the bending abilities would come naturally as they advance on a quest line, it would be possible to forbid using the ''/bending" or "bending help" command? Because i've tried with the permission "- -bending.command.help" and it didn't worked. (i'm using PEX like you, best permission plugin ever! xD ).

I have tested language support, and have it working on my own server. The dev build works just fine, and the versions are identical.
In fact, I just logged on to my server and tested it, and indeed everything works as I said it does.
The way you were adding it is correct, where it says
Is exactly correct and what you needed to add.
You've done this, and you saw the language file double in size and you have a whole section under "pt:" which you can then edit. Once you've edited it and saved it, then you can just do a /b reload and you're good to go.
I say this, yes it's repeating what I've said before, but I literally just tested it out, exactly as I said it. You don't have to restart the server even, or anything like that. Apparently I made it very robust, a simple /b reload works.
Tell me, when you type "/b language", what does it say?

orion... i don't know how to comunicate with you anymore. I know you're trying to help by answering all the comments and i really admire that atitude, but if whenever we have issues you assume that it's our mistake without even checking if there's a problem at the plugin's feature, then you don't get to correct what's wrong and we stay with tied hands.
My problem is.. whatever modifications I make on the new generated section by adding ''- pt'' below ''- en'' doesn't appear on the game even after I type ''/b language pt", but they're still on the language file. I've tried to make modifications on the ''en:'' section aswell, they remain changed on the file, but doesn't show on the game. My conclusion is: the language support is not working.
About the modifications you made on FAQ. Adding ''- en, pt" creates a new section named "en, pt:" on the language file, witch makes every command answer with: "Language not supported"
Did you tested to see if this feature is working? The modifications you made on the language file appeared in the game?
If you indeed tested and succed, then the only explanation is that i'm using a different version of yours. Based on your answer I think you thought I wasn't modifying the language file, that's not the problem. Whatever i changed on that file doesn't appear on the game.

When I say minecraft graphics cannot handle it, I mean that a "ring" or a circle has to be a certain size to be able to represent it properly with pixles/blocks. Torrent is the lower limit of this size, and is about 2 blocks in radius. The water rings from the show were not that large, were very thin, and travelled in ways that just cannot be done with minecraft pixel graphics.
I'll not be making a probending arena plugin, my efforts are elsewhere. I believe my plugin can be hooked into easily, though, if someone wanted to make something like what you're describing.
That one chi move? Cripple? That would be simple, and I'm probably going to add that. The dodge one which I said wouldn't be possible to make? No, not "hard", impossible. You cannot possibly, with bukkit, reliably tell when someone is strafing with A or D.
The rings you're describing are nearly identical to Torrent and OctopusForm, both of which would do the same thing.
I shoot down many, many ideas. You can keep suggesting, I'll have no problem with it, but I will likely shoot those down too. It's just the simple fact of how strictly a move must be created to be added to the plugin. It must follow these guidelines:
The technique with water rings Katara used in The Swamp or the ice rings she used against Pakku in The Waterbending Master run in to issues with #2. The teleport strafing dodge feature expanded upon by codiaz runs into issues with #1 and #5. See what I mean?
It's not that I'm opposed to change or suggestions, just that I'm fairly convinced I've gone through the series and every move enough to know that there simply are no more moves I can give benders - which is a good thing because I really like being capped at 9 moves, for balance and ease of use.
@zanisxx
I'm not sure about that one, it doesn't seem like it's something the series has displayed.

Posted Mar 19, 2013Shochwawe is nothing like earthquake, shockwave is super simmilar to torrent ability, but earthquake would make a hole going straight to the enemy, like 20-40 blocks range from person, it would do some damage, but also it would trap enemy, that could be 10th earth ability, shift move would make holes around person who cast it like 10 blocks range.

Posted Mar 19, 2013i understood your answer orion, but about ice rings, actually, minecraft graphics can handle that, but i guess it would take a lot of work, that water streaming move which katara did as 10th move would be perfect for waterbenders :) thx for adding icethrow move, it is much better then old icespike spawn around us.... and i sent you a pm about pro bending arena, it would be nice, and yeah ice rings is the thing i really want to see, you know game avatar arena, there also is that move, chi move, i know, i just know it can be made, but yeah it would be hard, i hope someday you will be interested in that and start working on it, it would spawn just a 2 rings, 1 from left side and 1 from right side, it would be very good against more then 1 person, if 1 ring hits you, you get 2-4 hearts damage, at night rings would be bigger(maybe) by some reason i think this idea will be shot down too... but i hope so no :) i got lots, lots ,lots of ideas, but as you said 9 moves is a set, but i hope, one nice day, you will make more, so us, benders, can choose from more then 9 moves to bind :) also that water streaming, of course you can put it on water manipulation, but also it could be as brand new 11th water skill(counting bloodbending) shift move would take ice block and left mouse button move would take water block or something....

Try making sure the server is down when you modify the language file. When you're done, save the changes and then start your server once more. I modified the FAQ, hopefully it explains things a bit better now.

Posted Mar 18, 2013i just want to know if there's anyone who's been able to change a single sentence on the config file, if there's a way i'll find out.
what i've tried to do already... delete the language.yml and bending-Players,ylm, started the server so it can generate new files. Then I added "- pt" below "- en", on SupportedLanguages section. It happened just like you said it would on FAQ tutorial, it generated a new section titled "pt" but in english, I've tried to modify on both of the sections (pt and en) but it's not working. I've tried to change the DefaultLanguage to "pt", and to type "/bending language pt" on the game, but there's not one word changed.

I may implement such techniques, but I'm not sure. The idea is that certain moves should be used to counter other moves, like WaterWall and FireShield and RaiseEarth.
@monstercat101
God armor?
@biowaier
I like your ideas a lot, but I'm hesitant to incorporate them. I've been struggling with where I want to take Chiblockers, since many skills you've mentioned and others have mentioned are not specific to chiblockers, but rather specific to fighters in general. For example, the ability to dodge or do more damage or break armor are the results of training fighting techniques in general, not training the ability to block someone's chi.
That, and balance, are why there are so few abilities for chiblockers - other abilities don't come from the ability to block chi. I'm not sure where I'll take them, but if I take them in the fighter direction your suggestions will be much appreciated.
Cripple, however, is definitely one I think I'd like to add and is chiblocker-esque.
@zanisxx
You can't make an enemy "not see" with Bukkit. The stream attacks you've mentioned would not have different enough functionality from the other moves to warrant adding. All of the elements are done, with 9 moves a piece (one for each slot you have). Bloodbending not included of course, since that's not generally available.
@zanisxx
Shockwave already exists and is similar to your Earthquake idea. IceSpike has already been altered, and slows instead of dealing good damage like WaterManipulation (since it's cold). Wave can already affect the bender, and many use it to "surf". If that's not controlled enough, there's WaterSpout. Streaming the water, like you're talking about what Katara did in the first episode, is one I might add again later (it was in once), but is not a high priority. WaterWall has been made to react -very- quickly already, you don't need/can't use anything faster. Water/Ice rings cannot be rendered with Minecraft graphics. I'm hesitant to add a "water shield", since WaterWall (from surge) does what it needs to do without being too strong. Also, in the episode you mentioned, his "shield" was only a hemisphere and came from the flowing water behind him - there was no other way for the water to flow and he did nothing that a "wall" of water couldn't have done. I cannot program animations as smoothly as artists can animate them in the shows.
Hopefully you're starting to see why most of these suggestions get shot down so often, since there's a lot that goes into making any move.
@codiaz
While I like that dodge idea, there's no way for Bukkit to catch when a player strafes (i.e. presses A or D).
@zanisxx
For many, many reasons, metalbending will not be added in the capacity you want.
@machado197328
I literally cannot explain it any clearer than I did in the FAQ. Sorry.
@codiaz
Such a crashing bug for 1.5 (which is still only a development build) is not surprising and I'll not bother with it until Bukkit releases a beta, which should be stable enough to release a new dev build.
@justinwl
Read up on how to do and modify permissions with your favorite permissions plugin (I use PermissionsEx). That's not what this is here for.
@MysteriusLordJo
In the config.yml, there's a list of earthbendable blocks. Just add the material name in the same way the rest of the blocks are written there (like -MYCEL). Here is the list of all material names.
@AttaWishes
Thanks. "Must" is a bit harsh a word for someone not intimately familiar with the ins and outs of this plugin...
In the series, there was never shown a range discrepancy between benders. Firebenders had ridiculous range (look at Sozin's Comet, Combustion Man, Jeong Jeong, etc). And basically all benders had the ability to fire their element far away (Pakku in the Siege of the North, Aang throughout the series, Earthbenders shooting artillery at Appa in The Earth King). Ranges are pretty balanced considering those facts.
Damage balance, however, was recently completed and is in the dev build. It makes the whole thing much better and more epic. If you have the dev build, just delete your config to see the changes.
New attacks: All benders have 9 moves each. Bending isn't about attacking all the time (not in the show, and not in this plugin). It's about utility. I'm quite satisfied with the amount of attacks and utility each bender has.
I'm very interested in a german translation and would definitely walk you through doing that. PM me to find out what to do, and to run any more ideas by.
