Development builds of this project can be acquired at the provided continuous integration server. These builds have not been approved by the BukkitDev staff. Use them at your own risk. This link has been removed because Bukkit doesn't like Github as a CI server.
Minecraft: The Last Airbender is a Minecraft plugin for a Bukkit server. It is designed for Survival Multiplayer, and allows players to choose an element to bend as the benders do in the world of Avatar (the stage of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra).
Some quick notes: I will warn you that you will not be able to do everything they do in the show. There are limitations both in Minecraft and in Bukkit that prevent such extravagance. In the details of each discipline you can see exactly what you can do. As such, the description of the bending disciplines is a little altered to reflect their role in the world of Minecraft: The Last Airbender.
Features
- Play as a bender and choose which type you would like to be.
- Battle other users and see who is the best of the best.
- Compatible with WorldGuard, Factions, PreciousStones, GriefPrevention, and CreeperHeal. (Many more plugins will be added to this list)
- Nothing is required client-side
- Permissions support!
Bending
Users may bend water, earth, fire, air, or can go with being a chiblocker.. You may pick which type of bender you would like to be with the command: /bending choose [water/air/earth/fire/chi]. You may only choose one, with the exception of the Avatar, and you may never change it so be careful in your decision.
Waterbending
- Specializes in maneuverability in and on the water.
- Oceans are perfect for water benders.
- Techniques range from shooting water that do damage, freezing lakes, or even pushing enemies back with powerful waves.
- This bending style is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Water bending opens up many options in bodies of water that are otherwise closed to the other disciplines.
Earthbending
- Specializes in manipulating the earth around them.
- Any area which contains land is perfect for earth benders.
- They have the abilities to pull columns straight up from the earth, drill their way through any mountain and launch themselves through the air.
- This bending style, like water bending, is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Earth benders do not take fall damage as long as they land on the ground.
Firebending
- Specializes on destruction and incineration.
- Any environment, besides on any bodies of water, is perfect for them.
- They may create rings of fire on the ground, shoot lines of fire, and even create exploding fireballs.
- This bending style is pure offensive, and very little mobility/defense.
- Fireball is the only ability they may use that does not require any solid ground beneath them.
Airbending
- Specializes in mobility & defense.
- The land is the ideal place for airbenders, although they may also bend over the water.
- Bending air allows you to use wind to blast things away, forming a shield of air around you, or using a tornado to lift you, or your opponent, off of their feet.
- This bending style is perfect for pacifists and explorers for they lack any raw damage output, but make up for it with their utility and speed.
- Choosing air as your element increases your overall speed, decreases the rate of hunger and disables fall damage.
Chi Blocking
- Specializes in bare handed combat.
- Move faster, jump higher, take less fall damage.
- Can block someones chi, stopping them from Bending for a short period of time.
- Abilities range from Higher Jumps, Faster Punches, and Paralysis of enemies.
HELP! It's not working!
This is a Bukkit plugin, not a single player mod. It will never be a single player mod. Go to the Bukkit Wiki to set up your own server. You can play on it just like you would single player, and it requires nothing more than setting it up.
If anything is not working, look around for a development build of Bending.
Development progress
School has picked back up, so plugin development will be very intermittent at best. I've done away with the ordered releases, and will most likely be keeping 1.0.7 the "official" version until I release it as 1.1.0. It's a jump, I know, but if I were forced to stick to a schedule, the plugin would never get done. This is because there are things I like coding and want to code now, and I shouldn't have to wait just because I have something else planned for the version.
As such, there is no ETA on the release. The dev build will of course be updated as I add features, but 1.1.0 will only be officially released when everything is completed, and that could take a very long time.

Um... the permission node you suggested is exactly the permission node that already exists and works. :P

I realize you have hooked into WorldGuard to allow regions to be blacklisted for bending using flags. Is there any way you might consider adding the following functionality?
I run a fairly big survival server - the members are used to the game mechanics they've always had. We install minigames to spice things up. I wanted to disallow bending completely in the survival world and only allow it in a world that has an arena in it specifically for bending.
I just feel like giving them bending all the time (Or even having the commands in the main world) would interfere with their gameplay. PEX has a world: option, where you can define certain permissions per-world. Would you mind creating a catch-all bending permission that I could use to - -bending.* for my main world? Ideally, this would prevent any of Bending's functionality from being executed in that world.
Thanks for your consideration. Cyan

AirScooter became incredibly difficult to mount once I added improved jumping for airbenders. However, the next dev build has this fixed.
The idea with EarthBlast, unlike WaterManipulation, is that the easiest way to use it is to RaiseEarth a column first, then fire directly from that. There are many reasons I have no intention of having EarthBlast raise first before firing like waterbending does - all to do with how fundamentally different earth is from water in Minecraft.
There are permissions for everything, including Bloodbending and AvatarState. And it can be customized person to person, with your favorite permissions plugin.
@sehunpark
I have noticed crashing too. I believe it's from the new threads I added to reduce server strain. I did some research and added what I think to be thread-safe methods now, so hopefully server crashes are fixed. Sadly, I'm not sure that's the case. It has nothing to do with the Bukkit version though, I'm working on a fix if it is indeed Bending.

Posted Nov 20, 2012Any idea when you'll post an update to be compatible for 1.4.5? I believe my server keeps crashing due to this. Although, this is my favorite plugin and I will not remove it :D

Hey SarnjiProto, I thought I might try to help you out with how air scooter works. The instructions given are to sprint, jump and whilst you're off the ground left-click. You should be carried by a current of air should this be done correctly. However, most of the time air scooter isn't able to be performed. In my experience, it seems to me that air scooter it quite sensitive on one's proximity to the ground. You have to make sure you're a decent height off of whatever surface you jump from. Although, the air scooter's behaviour will change depending on what's below you. If you use air scooter over ground that's very far down from you then as the air scooter activates it will push down into a speedy fall. If you use air scooter and whilst it's active you fall into a body of water then you will be launched from the water into the air. There is however an easier way of using air scooter. If you sprint towards a surface that's one level higher than the one you're sprinting on as you jump towards the surface and activate the air scooter it will kick in just before you hit the higher ground and carry you very smoothly. This seems to be the only way I can find with the highest chances (almost certain) air scooter will stabilise. Finally, if you're not able to get air scooter to carry you enough, try holding space bar for just a little longer to get some good height from the ground and it should increase your chances if you do it correctly. I really hope this helped.

Well crap, the thing with bukkit didnt click in my head even though I knew it hasnt put out an update. I apologize for that.
Air scooter. Its never seemed to work the way i have heard and tried. Can you give me the instructions on how to use it? Thanks.
Earthblast, when I bend a piece of dirt to hit a zombie it will sometimes hit dirt next to it rather than come up out of the source and then fire like water manipulation. Is it not possible to make them work the same for effectiveness?
Avatarstate, /bending give Avatarstate <name> should sum up this question. I dont like the fact of how I need to op someone for them to use it. Edit: There is probably a permission thing for it but like the Bloodbending permission it gives everyone access to it rather than who i want it to.
Sorry about all the questions, I hope i have my facts straight this time.. Thanks again.

I agree with you on airblast, it's more of a defensive move to put distance between close enemies or cooling hot threats. That's why I thought of airball, to have a technique that functions to throw your enemy into the air. It would have been for tactical disruptions, a valuable move to give airbenders new opportunities to defend or even attack if applied correctly. It's not really an OP move, it suits airbenders. Even without the airball feature airblast is still a very effective and of course fundamental technique for all airbenders. I look forward to using more airblasts in the future. >:)

Um, HealingWaters has been able to heal others since it was created. And as of now, it cannot be used with bottles.

I was thinking about water and Katara and than I thought she can heal people with water and you called it healingwaters but is this now also possible from a bottle and also possible to heal others? like make a watermanipulation and if you hold it under someone it heals him?

And the height is that because of no building zone, because even if i put height on 512 they can't bend but the people can build there

Nope, clouds are client side, and Bukkit has no animation methods for the new things - like ender beam or the beacon light. At the moment.

Posted Nov 19, 2012i think airblast is not a bending to shoot someone up in the air but more a defencive and outta nowhere move ( llike if your next to lava shoot some in or if chi comes to close shoot him away) and orion do you know if you can use clouds in your bending or not a good idea (or are clouds like the ender beam and the beacon light?) oh and is it only me or is it every that they cant bend if they are 255 high (has this something to donwith the non building region)

Firstly, I'd just like to say thank you for replying to my idea. Secondly, I'd just like to clear up why I thought of airball. Airblast is indeed much like airball however, in fluent combat it has a significant weakness... In order to throw an opponent up into the air with airblast, airbenders need to be very close to change the origin to the targets feet. The key to skilled airbending especially in long battles is to throw the opponent around to keep from getting hit. Airball allows airbenders to be able to keep this technique useful at a decent range. I don't know why I was thinking of 10 - 15 blocks, in my head it looked a lot lower than reality. 5 - 7 seems more appropriate and should the idea have carried would have been more suitable. However, the idea hasn't really shown to be a success to you but thank you really, thank you for looking at it and sharing your opinion on it. Your plugin's amazing, my favourite ever and I'm very grateful for your efforts in it. :D

Read the FAQ.
@Simek1
Bloodbending doesn't work on other bloodbenders. In line with the series.
@penguin392
What part of stop spamming weren't you clear on?
@nkomosim
That is correct. In fact, aside from water, pretty much all the elements are completed.
@MinecraftGamex555
Just go into the config and turn off Bending's chat thingy, so you don't risk weird results.
@Asurakwesi
Instead of Airball, consider that you can select an AirBlast's origin under and opponent's feet and throw them up (in a non-OP way, 10-15 blocks is waaay to strong). This feature is already added.
@DaPandaStare
Thanks :D
@SarnjiProto
Um... what? Even 1.0.7 hasn't been broken by a single bukkit update, and the dev build is the same way. Hell, Bukkit still hasn't released a recommended build for 1.4.4 (which came out a week ago, hardly "far behind"), so I don't quite see your point. It's perfectly up to date. And I have a dev build ready for release when Bukkit does update.
Bloodbending works on other players. It does not work on players that can bloodbend, however. In line with the series.
What's wrong with AirScooter? The unreleased dev build has it fixed so it's easier to mount, and Firejet is fundamentally different from AirScooter, even in concept.

Yeah, it does have something on shift however, I was thinking, unlike redirected airblast that's just tap shift that it would be held shift with click (like cone airburst). I thought airball and airblast would look similar and cause similar effects. That would've been my reason behind putting it with airblast. I guess 5-7 blocks would've been more ideal. ^_^ Oh well, just an idea. Thanks for the input. :)
